The experience was about as bad as it could have been. When booking the car I, along with 41 other people, were duped by a bait-and-switch on their website that allows you to think you’ve booked a car at the Lihue airport but instead switches it to the Lihue private airport during the checkout process. Total scam. And of course they had no cars available, and we weren’t allowed to pick up from the private airport, so for about 4 times the original cost that Hertz made me think I was going to pay I could go to their partner company, Thrifty. Use any other than Hertz when possible. Employees were totally unhelpful. One of those memorable garbage experiences.Reviewed Dec 31 2025

The hertz location you emailed me to pick up my vehicle in Lihue Kauai DID NOT EXIST and I was left stranded with NO CAR for my one day trip. Infuriating. Apparently the address you sent me to, had other customers who were there to pick up cars to where no rental car company even existed!!!Reviewed Dec 28 2025

Hertz was the best price. We just needed a vehicle for a couple of days to run around the island of Kauai. The reservation desk was fantastic; especially since there was no-one else there and we didn't have to wait. The car was new. It had a little funky smell, but it wasn't too bad. Kia Soul was cute and easy to drive and park. The check in was very efficient.Reviewed May 24 2025

The pickup process was extremely frustrating. They ask you to pre check in online the day before, which took quite a long time to verify my license. Despite doing this, they collect all of the same information at the counter and it did not speed up the process at all. When we arrived there was only one person behind the counter and a line of customers. There was one other employee standing outside whose sole job was to keep us in line outside of the office area. However, she left shortly thereafter and went to stand inside in the air conditioning. It was then our responsibility to try to see through the darkly tinted office for the sole representative to wave us in. I used a competitor the week before on another island and had a much better experience. Moving forward I will certainly be avoiding using Hertz during my travel.Reviewed Jul 17 2024

I have never been assigned such an old and poorly maintained car. The car was out of windshield washer fluid which turned to be not safe when we happened to need it. I was expecting a better car from a tier1 car rental company like Hertz, very disappointing.Reviewed Oct 24 2022
