Due to wildfire closing the route I was taking I needed to cancel for safety. Despite multiple routes of attemp, could not make contact with a real human at the site. Still waiting for response to get refunded. Will still use Kayak next time, just not Hertz!Reviewed Sep 19 2026

As it seems with most rental companies hertz counter reps seem to have been instructed to try and fool you into buying something that isn't mandatory by saying there are "additional taxes and fees". In this case I had declined all additional insurance since I carry my own automobile insurance and credit card CDW. The hertz desk then took 15 minutes of me standing there waiting for a car to be lined up and then said I owed $50 more dolllars for additional "taxes and fees", this turned out to be their LIS or liability insurance. I asked what the additional fee was and they said it was taxes and fees and did not explain it was liability insurance. I then checked later to find this out. I initially tried to connect with support but just got an AI agent that never connected me with anyone. Overall this left a bad taste in my mouth and showed Hertz is using same deceptive playbook as most rental car companies with hidden fees.Reviewed Sep 14 2026

I reserved a car from Hertz through your site on August 10, for a pickup at RNO on Sept. 22. I prepaid a portion of the charge ($171.20), leaving a balance ($54.62) due at pickup. Instead, was charged $110.64 at the Hertz desk, and told my only recourse was to call their Customer Relations/Billing phone number to resolve the issue. That proved useless, as they would not honor the stated price on my contract. I believe that $56.02has been stolen from me, and I will never rent from Hertz again. Further, if Kayak is unable to get the overcharge reversed by Hertz, I will never use your service again, and I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. The price quoted should be the price charged. Period.Reviewed Sep 30 2023

Gold member. Rented two months ahead of time for a conference. Upon arrival, I went to check in on app, which displayed “unavailable”. Wait at counter to check in, lady tells me car is ready in pick up area. Go to pick up, nobody knows what I’m taking about and don’t care to find out. Walk back to counter, tell lady my problem. She tells me to go back and wait. 40 mins later, my rental shows up covered in dirty water and all the LiDAR sensors are giving warnings. At that point I was late, so I had to take it. Customer service is awful, I doubt I’ll be back.Reviewed Sep 23 2023

Terrible experience. Waited two hours. Had to settle for a down grade of what we originally selected just to avoid waiting longer. The wait was due to lack of cars. Customer service reps were nice but there wasn’t enough of them for Volume of costumersReviewed Sep 22 2023

Meeting daughter in Reno (both flying in), my flight delayed so I call Hertz to add her as a driver so they could use car to leave airport and eat a meal. No joy whatsoever, person understood the issue but said no way. Said do it when you get to the counter (well I am going to be at 30,000 ft when they arrive. Fortunately my daughter persisted and went to the Hertz counter and since she has not yet converted her ID to her married name she talked them into giving her the car. Reserved a Premium class car, we had 5 people and was not as big as I thought a premiums car would be. Does seat 5 so we made it work. Trunk was small for rated 4 bags (especially when two are female with lots of stuff). So bags were on laps.Reviewed Jun 8 2022
