Pros:I liked that the rate for my initial 3 day reservation was only around $41 including taxes and fees, even though I was driving all the way across the country with the car. The car I was given matched what I had reserved. It was a VW Jetta in excellent condition; it was very clean and comfortable and got great gas mileage. I wasn't given any hassle when I declined their extra insurance or their pre-paid fill-up service.
Cons:The location where I was scheduled to pick up my car was supposed to be open at 7 AM. I arrived at 8 AM, as scheduled, to pick up my car, and no one was at the counter. A sign instructed me to call the phone number for a different location, so I did and left a message. After 15 minutes, I called again with still no answer. I called the 800 number for customer service and was told a general manager would call right away to give me further instructions. Another 15 minutes went by before someone finally called asking if I still wanted my reservation. Finally an employee showed up, and I got my car an hour later than I had requested. I also didn't like that when I added days to my reservation, the rate was $15 more expensive than my original rate.

Cons:To start I reserved my vehicle to be picked up at the airport and instead we had to go off site only after taking the shuttle to the first pick up location once we were told our rental was not where we anticipated (add in a $30 cab ride to get to said location). I called ahead to make sure we were going to the correct location and the attendant claims he asked me if I wanted to cancel our rental (which was prepaid) when I asked if we could swap the pick up location to the airport, therefore when we arrived we were informed our rental had been cancelled. Thank god I disputed the cancellation as we drove all the way there (why else would we do so if I cancelled it?) and they were able to reactivate, after an unnecessarily long wait. We then proceeded to pick up the car which only had half a tank of gas (I have never in my 10 years of renting vehicles had to pick up and return a vehicle on half a tank), the brakes were so bad every slight tap made them squeak so loud you could be heard from blocks away, it had multiple dings and scratches and the exterior looked like it was driven down a dusty street before pick up. To top it off we had to pay an additional charge to swap the drop off location to the hertz at the airport as we did not want to pay another $30 cab ride on the day of our departure. I have rented from far smaller agencies in the past and received much better quality. It will be a very tough sell to ever get me to rent from hertz again.

Cons:When booking online I was biking for the San Diego airport. When I arrived they told me it was at another location 30 minutes away. They were unwilling to change my location and I was also out the expense for the taxi ride to and from the airport to the hertz location. Once getting my car it was dirty and staff where doing the bare minimum required for their jobs, not a great experience. I travel often and this has been the first time I used hertz and will not use them again.
