I stayed here in November when rates are certainly lower. Hotel was excellent value, great service, good food, very nice facility. The hidden fees for parking and "resort fee" are a bit annoying.
All the extra charges. There is an extra $35 nite fee for parking. That should be included for people who stay.
Excellent location near action in Newport. Pleasant old hotel ambiance, though most of hotel is 1960's construction, well disguised behind original hotel facade. Parking fee extreme ($35 per day about 25% of room rate). Tub in room was nasty, no one would consider soaking in it, ok for shower. Wall behind tile in shower clearly water damaged with tile buckling and uneven with stained grout. No doubt hiding serious mold problem behind tile. Not so serious that I thought I needed flip flops for shower, but clearly showing neglect.
Location was great, close to shopping and Downtown. Requested a king size bed, but got a queen sized bed. There were only 2 queen rooms, and we got one b/c of our length of stay?? Sink did not drain the first day, but was fixed. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom, had to use the hairdryer out in the bedroom, but had to plug it in under the desk, so I was not able to stand and dry my hair. Wallpaper in the bathroom was lifting. The bed was not comfortable. Advertised that there were pillow top mattresses, ours was definitely not a pillow top and it was quite flat. There was no refrigerator in the room, coffee maker was old and outdated. I have been in far cheaper rooms that provided a keurig and nicer coffee provisions. Powdered creamer in a packet was gross. Overall, it was fairly disappointing for the $500.00 per night rate.
Very close/walkable to all. Hidden costs - parking, facilities.... Its an additional $15 a day for each. This is not clear in the post.
The Viking Hotel is in a perfect location. You can walk to all of the attractions. The staff was courteous and took care of all of our needs. The bathroom was tiny.
This is a lovely hotel in the middle of a historic district with an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Hotel staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We had a great time in Newport.
The staff was amazing!!! Joe carried my bags to my room and could not have been more of a pleasure to talk with. I was heading into town for a girls night out and instead of calling me a cab the hotel drove me to my destination! It made my whole night much more relaxing and stress free. Also, the pillows were insanely comfortable. When I checked out I immediately went and bought all new pillows for my bed at home. I was so inspired by my wonderful night's sleep...
Beautiful suite with a walk-in shower and bear-clawed tub, nice views and a friendly, professional staff. Not replacing the in-room coffee and the $35 a day valet parking are little things that irritate.
Great location and luxury appeal. Seems that the luxury only goes to the higher end rooms and more public places. The public bathroom in the hotel was 3 times more amazing than the one in our room.
I thought the staff was very friendly. There was an upbeat vibe in lobby. The location was great. Easy to walk everywhere from the hotel. Didn't like that I had to valet park my car. My final bill was $130 more than I agreed to because of extra fees. There was an extra resort fee and the parking was expensive. Mattress was very old and uncomfortable.
We stayed for one night the room was very clean, the bathroom was beautiful, and the hotel staff was very accommodating. The street noise outside of our room woke us fairly early in the morning, the breakfast at hotel restaurant was overpriced and sub par
Can walk to anywhere, great location Extra charge for parking
Had to call maintance 3 times. For the price of the room that was three times too many. The do a lot of chasing/ holds on bank account that takes days to fall off. Great location. Beautiful water view if the bird droppings had not been on window. Too expensive to have had all the issues
Front desk staff very helpful. Air conditioner was not working our first night they immediately sent someone up to take a look at it. He thought he had it fixed but that was not the case. We reported this to the front desk and they had the unit replaced the next day. Bar area downstairs is a great place to relax. Can't wait until the new restaurant opens. Beds/ pillows not that comfortable. Rooms could use some updating.
Although I had paid through kayak before we arrived the hotel charged my credit card for the room. It took days and a number of phone calls to finally get the hotel to remove the charge. It may just be easier to just book through hotel.
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Great location on America's Cup Ave. withing walking distance to almost everything. Pretty views of the marina out back. First floor rooms are great because you can sit outside your room and relax or play with kids.
Great location. Staff was friendly. Room was clean, comfortable and we had a great harbor view. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Parking was $25 a night which seems high, especially in April.
The front desk staff gave us excellent suggestions for meals and directions how to get somewhere. Everyone in the hotel was friendly. It was a great location and we could walk almost everywhere.
Loved the location right on the harbor walking distance to all the shops, cafes, bars...less than 20min. Drive to beavertail lighthouse, beautiful ocean view at the ocean drive historical center, Fort Adams, windmill hill We payed $25 dollars a day to park at the Newport Harbor hotel.....
The matress and cleanliness of entire hotel. Other than the hold you put on my card... Loved everything
Location was excellent. Enjoyed sitting out back at sunset. Easily walk around Newport from the Hotel. Front Desk Hospitality was great. Furnishings are fine. Nothing special. Clean.
Its location is awesome. Everything is within the walking distance Parking fee was charged upon check-out without explanation at check-in
Newport is known for its mansions and opulence. The Vanderbuilt is a modern version of a big and beautiful home. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. You may very well feel like you are an Astor or Berwind. My favorite part is brunch in the Conservatory. The food is great and the room is just so pretty. Not my first stay and won't be my last.
The hotel was beautiful. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The location PERFECT you literally walked down Mary St and you were in the center of Thames couldn't have asked for a more convenient spot. The views from the roof deck were breath taking.
Loved the location. On the water and walking distance to everything in newport. Good hotel to stay at with teenagers but truly just an average and little worn marriott on inside. Felt very 1980s needs lobby re do. Hotel front desk seemed overwhelmed and a bit immature. Made promises could not and did not keep. Conceriege lounge was average -- staff not very attentive in there. Food and liquor would run out and go unnoticed by staff. Also had an odd smell.
Great hotel. Great location.
Bedding very comfortable, nice pillows, and a clean room. Broken Toilet, when we called downstairs to let them know, got the impression they already knew there was an issue. They did send someone right away, but wish it was taken care of before getting to our room. That night after returning from dinner 9 p.m. the guest in the next room BANGED AND SHOUTED for us to be quiet - we were laughing - no TV on no music on just enjoying our view and relaxing - did NOT feel comfortable at this persons Anger! We were able to change rooms but at the front desk did get a little push back on - if they could get us a room with a view...I told them we were not loud and that HE was the problem she then stated ours was the second complaint from him - regarding a different guest...and she said how they had plans in the work to fix the soundproofing issues with the whole complex. Following night after dinner we returned and decided to go to the bar for a nightcap we got a high top table but went over to the bartender to place our drink order she seemed put out definitely not pleasant.
Location and staff, the english breakfast was so nice. Again, the location is awesome. Rooms are very roomy, and most important, they are clean. No elevator but even that wasn't THAT bad. The price was high for the Inn. But it served us well and we moved on.
The location Very aged and no updates that we could see, small and the staff wasn't very friendly.
Location,Staff,Breakfast No TV in room, Not there for TV however iti is helpfull to keep up on things and help sleep.
The location of this hotel was fantastic. We could walk to restaurants. The visitors center was close so that you could get both the local bus and the siggtseeing ones. The room was large and comfortable (refrigerator in room). Daily breakfast and afternoon tea were great - many choices. No elevator
The daily breakfast is a very nice spread and the hotel is right in the middle of an area with tons of restaurants, shops and bars which was awesome. They also have a nice roof deck of you want to get away from the crowds for a bit. For the price, I think this was a very good deal. We're used to staying in hotels instead of inns, so the stairs were a bit of a surprise. Also, it would have been nice if we could have opened the windows as there was such a beautiful breeze, however the ac unit did work very well.
The Inn was a great value. It is in the heart of downtown, right on the Main Street. You have access to the waterfront, shopping, restraraunts and bars. The city itself is just quaint. They serve high tea and desserts. It was so wonderful to have a snack available. Breakfast is included as well, and the selection was wonderful. I had read some other reviews as they mention the decor is outdated. I think they are going for that historical feel. It is not a modern hotel. For the money, plus all the add ons and location, you will not find a better value.
The location is great. Close to downtown activities. Facility is dated, but it has its charm.
The location is excellent. Parking is close and rather inexpensive. The staff was very nice as was the room. Our room, 4 flights up wouldn't work for some.
Its location near on Thames St is its best feature, The room was certainly not"deluxe". It had a small double bed and for two people this was not so comfortable. Small bathroom with handbasin in the main room. The room was ground level with windows to a lane outside and passers by could look straight in.
The location was very central to the main activities of Newport. It was too expensive, with extra charges for parking and a 3rd bed, which was not comfortable and for whom there was no towels or other amenities. The staff interaction was virtually non-exestent, on either check-in or breakfast.
The location in the attraction/shopping part of Newport. Lack of parking.
Great complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea; cozy traditional decor; helpful and responsive staff Thin walls and windows make the rooms noisy; TV is very small
Excellent location, easy parking, spacious and clean room with a simple decor. Good variety at breakfast and nice staff. Overall very positive experience!
Fantastic location probably the best hotel in Newport, very conveinet for town centure, tourist sites, bars. Decent sized car park, nice good sized rooms, good amentities, decent breakfast.
Very clean , adequate breakfast , god location for walking Newport.
Very convenient location with excellent friendly staff. During a two week tour of New England and Canada it was the most comfortable hotel we stayed in. We will strongly recommend The Jailhouse Inn to others in Old England! Nothing, we liked it all
It previously housing the police dept/jail, made the surroundings more interesting and unique....the international buffet bkft offered many choices Room was noisy in the am, since the window was right on the front porch where people congregated, laughing etc....a/c did not work properly and did not cool the room, even with front desk clerk checking it
very special hotel. nice staff. clean and nicely located in new port
location bed a little too hard
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful! Great value for money with free parking and breakfast too. Perfect location, close to shopping, dining and attractions.
The uniqueness of the Jailhouse Inn. Nice touch with the cell doors in the hallway. Very friendly and helpful at the front desk.
The Jailhouse Staff were exceptional. The Hotel is ideally situated; it is welcoming, warm and very comfortable - I highly recommend this Hotel. when I return to Newport my first port-of-call will be the Jailhouse. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the premises; it has an intriguing history, which is interesting and still very much alive; however the standard of the accommodation is by no means compromised and the staff offer a five star service. Congratulations to all !
Clean room, quiet area.
The location is good to reach centre of Newport for Restaurants and bars. Size of the room is very small. A musty smell of the place (in September). The staff was not friendly, just businesslike.
Everyone was very nice. Just attentive enough. The location was amazing; short walk to all of downtown. No two rooms are alike. So gorgeous. Free, convenient parking! Very familiar, comfortable atmosphere.
Was a great location, parked the car when we arrived on Saturday, spent 2 nights and were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go in Newport.
Friendliness Parking, happy hour wine Very tired looking and extremely noisy room due to some pump
the hotel was near all the facilities . I would have prefered a room in the main house but the room i was allocated was nontheless clean and comfortable.
Relaxed atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.
Charming quiet rooms & great location, 200m from great restaurants/bars. Staff very helpful.
Wonderful character - ful inn with great staff. Extras included wine and cheese in the early evening - a real treat nothing negative to stay
The staff were friendly, the room was spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. The continental breakfast was also pretty good. The en-suite was tiny in relation to the size of the room, the shower had nowhere to put the soap or shampoo which was a bit of a nuisance, but one does not spend 24/7 in the shower room......
the Inn staff greeted us at the door and showed us to our room on the top floor. It was a quaint room with a nice clean bathroom and an armoir for hanging up clothes. There were three rooms on the top floor and all reserved. We missed breakfast due to an early start but the menu looked delicious!
Excellent. Accommodation comfortable in a very pleasant Inn. Very personable staff, and Mark makes an excellent breakfast. Thoroughly recommended. Nothing to do with the MArshall Slocum Inn, but if visiting Newport, beware parking restrictions ( I didn't !!!)
Everything is perfect here.
Excellent location, lovely period detached building with free parking. Walking distance to all attractions. Nice comfortable bed and crisp linens. Two of the bedrooms are located on the ground floor near the communal breakfast area. Breakfast starts at 7.30 pm and can be quite noisy - impossible to sleep late if in these rooms! Also the wooden floors in the room above our room meant lots of noisy footsteps. It would have been nice to have two chairs in our room rather than just one as the bed was too high too sit on.
The location is ideal, just a short walk into the downtown and harbor area, and right off Bellevue Ave. The Inn is charming and comfortable, and the host and hostess, as well as the staff, are friendly and very helpful. The room was immaculate, and the breakfast, on the deck, was delicious. We can't wait to come back! My husband would have liked a television in the room, but I know bed & breakfasts usually do not have them.
Beutiful historic house in a quiet road just a short walk from all sea front and harbour.Mark was an excellent host.Breakfast was cooked freshly for each guest by Mark who took time to answer questions and give directions and vadvice on a variety of questions.Thank You All at Marshall Slocum
There was a jacuzzi tub in our room. There was a nice sitting area next to the bed with a nice window to look out of, however my husband didn't want to sit in them because he thought he might break them. We were able to eat breakfast outside on a deck. The blueberry pancakes were delicious. I liked the checkout time and the times available for breakfast. There was no meat with the breakfast. There was no TV in the room. The bathroom was tiny. The room had a high bed and I needed to use the step stool to get in it.
the personal service and small number of rooms (5)
The style, comfort and relaxing atmosphere afforded an ideal opportunity to recharge our batteries. Breakfast was amazing!
nice accomodations, gracious hostess, great location
Great location, very nicely appointed common areas
The Inn was very clean, everything in the room worked fine. Towels were very plush, bed linens fine, clean and fresh. The Innkeepers were very hospitable, friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast terrific. 3rd floor deck overlooking Newport wonderful.
Great location. Enjoyed the visits with proprietors. They were helpful with local information and very accommodating.
superb, restful No
Great location-close to shopping, wharf, etc Mildew around the tub-owner needs to re-caulk. Could use extra pillows and blankets. No drinking glasses in room. No coffee before 8am! Great location but rooms could use some updating. Lot of $$ for a small room.
Frindly staff, good downtown location, good breakfast. A little pricy.
very private, clean, friendly and good breakfast
Host and staff very nice, breakfast was good and hotel was quiet We found that the photo's on the internet were not representative of the rooms. In reality, rooms were all very small
Nice breakfast. The quality of the rooms vary greatly. One of the rooms we rented was very shabby and dirty with a couch that should have been replaced 15 years ago and a bed that was falling apart. The cleaning could have been a lot better too.
Received an upgrade to a King size bed. Great location, convenient to Thames Street and wharf activities. The carpet was filthy. Could use a simple steam cleaning.
Another excellent Inn in Newport which oozes the history of the ancient tradesmen and merchants
The location is just great. The suites are spacious, and the idea of marrying modern designs with a historical building makes this hotel very charming. I know hotels are generally trying to be more mindful about the environment by reducing the frequency to change towels, bed sheets, etc. However, we accidentally stained the bed sheets on the first night of the stay. Instead of changing the sheets, the house keeping staff simply ignored the stains and made the bed as if nothing was there. It made our 2nd night of stay pretty uncomfortable.
Bed was extremely comfortable and they had a great continental breakfast! seemed like they were a bit understaffed
We liked the hotel's contemporary design, great rooftop, healthy and delicious continental breakfast, quiet and adult vibe, friendly staff, on-site parking and close location to downtown Newport. No elevators, awkward shower design, furnishings in living room were a little tired, motor on refrigerator was loud.
We've stayed here before, love it's central location and clean friendly facilities. As for your service, they did not have our reservations when we arrived. Luckily they had a room available. Not happy when we did not have reservations we requested through your service.
The Mill Street Inn was fabulous - everything we could have asked for and more.
The location was very good The facility was down on the heel, dated, with minimal maintainance. The room was very small, with pealing paint and tape holding the insulation around the window. The yard was a mess and it just appeared that the proprietors did not care or take pride in their building/inn.
