No SUV available as reserved on arrival except the one with a HUGE crack in the windshield. No apology, no alternative offered and when we requested another car we were told it was for Uber drivers not customers. Finally was given a LOWER tier vehicle and told it would actually cost MORE. So the branch manager "reduced" it down to the higher tier rate that I had agreed to for the SUV. AGain no apologies or explanation except that it was a busy time, regardless of your reseveration. The office is literally dirty, there is no lighted signs at night and the parking lot is dark and sketchy, next door to a strip club. Would NEVER use this place again.

Wanted to make a change on the rental. Went to the location and they said we had to call the customer help line as they could not make the change. Called the customer help line and they said we had to go to the location as they could not make the change. We have up at that point.

Typical Hertz service, it's always lacking in comparison to the competition. Even with your eyes closed you can tell your're at Hertz in about 30 seconds. I reserved for five days and was on the weekly (five day) rate. Their hours would have required me to leave the car in the lot overnight on my return - obviously at my liability - not something I was willing to do. So I said I'd go with a four day rate and bring it back a day early. The guy at the counter couldn't make it work and told me I'd have to pay more for a four day rental than the five day rental 'since it was on a weekly rate to start with'. Ok, so I'm on a weekly rate, I get that, and was only renting it five days. Fine, I'll just keep it the full week and bring it back then. He wanted to charge me more to do that. So I couldn't shorten my rental because I was 'on the weekly rate' and I couldn't keep if the full week but was on the weekly rate. You have a flaw . I cancelled my reservation , went 300 yards down the road to the competition and got a car for the days I needed it at the same rate Hertz's system was charging me for the week . Why would a customer that experienced that ever go back to Hertz?

Even though there was only one person working at the time, he was really quick/efficient and very courteous! When he went outside with the customer before me he made sure to tell me he would be with me very shortly, and he was. The whole process of getting the car was smooth and way easier than I thought it would be (I had never rented a car before)! It was an all-around great experience!

Cons:

Letting the customer know that they could pick up and drop off at other locations. I needed a ride 7 miles away. I was told they could not take me over 4 miles. The facility was understaffed but polite.

Vehicle originally rented was not available and the replacement option was not luxury....the replacement (van )took over 1.5 hours to get ready. The inside of the van was filthy dirty and I had to personally disinfect it before our trip. The salesman offered an 8 % discount which was not worth switching vehicle types. With covid going on, I assumed the cleaning process would be more through to prevent the spread.

Cons:

Didn't get the car I requested. Received a big gas guzzling SUV instead. Gas tank was only about 3/4 full. Returned the car with a full tank and was expecting some type of credit. Attendant Mike T. laughed and said no, but thanks for filling up the car! Writing letter to AVIS. Not a happy customer.

Chris Frieh the agency operator was finally able to get a SUV for me. But he could never commit when there would be an SUV available. In fact, I took an SUV that was returned with 3/4 tank of gas and not cleaned because I needed to leave right at noon.

It was really hard to find the shuttle driver and when we did it took us to a sketchy feeling part of town took us into a warehouse and had us talk with a representative with a very heavy accent over a computer screen. We were not told where to bring the car back - turns out we had to find the sketchy warehouse back and they could not take us back to our hotel even though it was closer than the airport.

There was a minor scratch at the bottom of the front bumper which is not visible unless you are on your knees. As far as I am concerned we didn’t do anything to cause it. It may be already there and we didn’t notice when we took the care at midnight. At any rate my gripe is with how they handled this situation. We bought most expensive coverage possible with them which is twice the rental price itself. But during checkout they stalled us because of this issue even though we told them that we are cutting too close to our departure time and requested them to call the insurance and get it reimbursed because we already bought the coverage. But they insisted on us calling them and we couldn’t because we didn’t have local mobile plan. After lot of back and forth they checked other contracts on the vehicle and probably figured out that the damage was already there and the let us off the hook. It was a happy ending but the whole drama could have been avoided if they had customer service at the forefront of their minds.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
