In the Charlotte airport, eat at the Midwood Smokehouse: great pulled pork say, and try Old Mecklenberg beer, a local german style brewery. They make Altbier and Kölsch! The. AA terminal at La Guardia airport is bramd new, with great food and shopping. Free bus between airport and Jackson Heights subway station. Subway is much faster than. a cab to. Manhattan. Only problem is finding. the elevators at a station or on tne subway platform!

Be prepared for unexpected delay especially if has connecting flights.
AmyFlew with American Airlines-Aug 2026
Do not depand on the last flight of the day as there were no options, limited hotels, food and beverage place closed at 10PM. CLT is a nice airport it needs a few considerations for evening flights to plan for the unavaidable. Also, when connecting through CLT, if your flight gets cancelled, it seems that the options to move you to another flight are limited.
FredrickFlew with Delta-Apr 2026
Give yourself time. The shuttle from terminal to terminal is quick, but it can be several minutes from gate to shuttle or vice versa.
StephanieFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2026
Charlotte concourses are under construction in some areas. Leave plenty of time for connections. We had 1.25 hrs. to arrive on one concourse and walk to another concourse for departure; this was NOT too much. Allegedly, walk should have taken 15 minutes, but moving walkways were not working, and corridors were very crowded with travelers. Gate areas are too small for people waiting to board, so they spill out into the concourse corridors, impeding traffic. Allow extra time for moving more slowly, using restrooms, getting food, etc.

Long haul so make sure to get up and move around a bit.

Because the CLT to NY flights are short distance/ duration I have noticed that they are often the first to be delayed or cancelled when there are weather issues. The worst airline for this route is American who seems to always have issues with crews timing out, lost baggage, mechanical delays, etc. AA is usually one of the worst carriers for cancelling/ delaying flights. I find the Delta flights to be the most reliable and timely. However, Delta flys smaller planes and so there is limited space for carry-on bags. You may have to check your bag at the gate and pick it up in the jetway afterwards. In terms of airports, the Charlotte airport has been undergoing a renovation for many years and is still a mess with many of the moving sidewalks not moving. Airport parking is particularly challenging and so you need to allow plenty of time before your flight. In NY, it really depends on time of day and weather. LGA is close to Manhattan, but it is the first to be impacted by weather. The LGA airport is modern and renovated. I generally prefer it to JFK and EWR unless there is bad weather.

Don't book row 3 as people from the first 2 rows "first class" usually take up whatever space they need in the overhead compartment and you are forced to stow your carry on many rows back.
ShirleyFlew with American Airlines-Nov 2025
Make sure to check-in to your flight using the American Airlines mobile app. The ILM airport isn't big or busy. It's a small airport, so you don't need to stress getting there.
VivianeFlew with American Airlines-May 2025
Eat, drink and go to the bathroom before you board. It’s too short a flight for those services to be offered.
FredrickFlew with Delta-Apr 2025
Wear comfy shoes. You'll be walking a lot (from the jetway to the rental car bus was about a mile total including luggage and the up and down stairs required) when you get to Detroit. And note that the B terminal restrooms appear to be eternally under construction. Had to walk to C term to find one open. At 9a.m on a Saturday.
VivianeFlew with American Airlines-May 2025
Charlotte airport under construction- leave enough time for connecting flights. You may have far to go to get to your next gate.
HartajFlew with United Airlines-Dec 2024
RDU long-term parking can add 30-70 mins to your departure time. At terminal 2 in RDU, getting a taxi can take 2-5 mins, vs. waiting 10-30 mins for a car app pickup. :)
HartajFlew with United Airlines-Dec 2024
RDU gates can be busy. Newark airport still being upgraded, expect construction. Complex EWR layout can be difficult to navigate. Good luck! 💗
ROGERFlew with American Airlines-Sep 2024
Walk with something to eat, because everything on the airport is expensive.
MohanFlew with Frontier-Oct 2024
Check-in online and ensure your personal item is not big, these guys are a pain to deal with
LeoFlew with United Airlines-Jun 2024
Get precheck TSA if you’re flying in early morning. Get a seat on the right side of the plane if you want to see sunrise.
JenniferFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2024
Both the Charlotte and O'Hare airports are large and well organized. Wear you comfy walking shoes and enjoy the journey!
StacyFlew with Sun Country Air-Jul 2024
I would get trip insurance and probably used Delta. There are more expensive, but have more flights to reschedule you on.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Aug 2024
The Charlotte airport is relatively large, so plan to be there early.

Bring a bottle of water on board with you. It took three hours for us to be served.

They dont really bother you about carry-on size, I brought a descent sized backpack and they didnt even check. Bring your own snacks to save some money.
Verified travelerFlew with Lufthansa-Mar 2024
If you're connecting at Newark, you don't have to go through security again, which was a pleasant surprise.
NemoFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2024
Small plane meant no overhead compartment room, so you got a valet tag when boarding and they checked the bag at the gate. I didn't realize until I exited the gate door this meant I was supposed to pick the bag back up immediately upon getting off the plane and I could not go back down the gateway again to retrieve it. But they transferred the bag to the baggage claim area so it all worked out- just a little confusing at first.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
bring your own tablet or laptop if you want to watch movies on decent size screen... and consider continuing to mask while traveling to avoid variety of airborne diseases.
AlexanderFlew with Delta-Apr 2024
Get to the airport early, the lines to go thru security are enormous. The line does move pretty quickly though.
BrantonFlew with Delta-May 2024
Don’t pay extra for anything on a flight that’s less than an hour.
jonFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
If there are issues with the plane you could be there a long time. We were there for over 4 hrs. Missed connecting flights. Be proactive. If you are going to miss your connecting flight ask if you can be rerouted. Don’t accept poor customer service. Remember. They are not looking out for you. Be proactive.
Verified travelerFlew with British Airways-May 2024
Charlotte is not a convenient airport. Overcrowded and when arriving to pick up your luggage at belts (connecting to Tampa), they have screens informing you where to pick up your luggage, but screens had NO information at all. You had to ask for it to staff.
BrantonFlew with Allegiant Air-Jan 2024

Be sure to get your boarding passes 24 hour before you leave.

We were delayed in CLT for 4 hours for mechanical issues resulting in us not leaving till 1:30AM and landing at 2:30 AM, so getting home at 4AM. The crew at the desk had no answers and provided very little information. I received a food voucher via email/app however there were no food places open. Even the walk up and scan your own places did not accept the QR code. I know mechanical issues occur but better communication would have made an unfortunate situation less frustrating.

There was no service on the flight even though there was no turbulence or any other issues on the flight. Nobody greeted at the entry or leaving the airplane, staff crew looked annoyed and not helpful at all.

You guys broke my bag so not good, and that was the cherry on top after a 4 hour delay, change of gates, etc.

I have to sit in the middle for more than five hours because the first flight was delayed. Terrible experience. No more American Airlines.

Absolutely infuriating. I was flying standby to get home earlier after flying 4 times with American in 6 days. I was #2 on the list with seats near the front and middle, in addition to the 4 first class upgrade seats that came back into the pool. I am a Platinum member, have their card, and they put me in the 2nd to last row in the middle. No loyalty whatsoever and they lost a fan for life. There is reason people have negative comments about American and I am done supporting them.

Didn’t happe- would have missed connection so we rebooked

The airplane I love and I love I came back safe thank you American airlines

Ninth consecutive American flight I have been on that was delayed

It’s love good long way travel!! I always want more give me price down i want ever month travel I miss travel only North Carolina to Thailand in my love her !!

Efficiency of supporting mechanical teams who changed a wheel on airplane in minutes. So no delay, and pilot made up the lost minutes in flight. Comfortable seat.
