Free upgrade wasn't free at all
Pros: We liked the convertible Mustang we had for 10 days in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island
Cons: I made a reservation through kayak for $495, at first the gentleman checked us out for over $1600! I called AAA and indeed I didn't need an extra $40 the day of protection. And he said he would upgrade us at no charge to the mustang convertible. My 14-year-old son was stoked and we told him repeatedly how grateful we were. I returned it half a day early with a full tank ready to check out and the bill is now 1100… They had charged us for the upgrade! The front desk told me too bad and the manager literally shoved my bill back at me! He told me it wasn't his problem to call customer service and walked away. Incredulously I asked for his managers information and he proceeded to get on the phone to call security. When that didn't deter me he finally took just over $200 off the bill seen clearly there must've been a misunderstanding. I can't believe how duped and manipulated I felt. And how appaulled at their unwillingness to be compassionate or understanding and to instantly blame me.

Cons: The clerk at the counter tried to lead me deceptively down and "upsale" path by telling me he had a Ford Mustang for me when I checked in to pick up my luxury car. I thought this was my car until I realized he was also setting me up to charge me hundreds of dollars more... The car was very dusty inside. This will be my last rental from Budget.

Pros: The car was in good condition, clean.
Cons: I spoke with the Budget representative about purchasing the gas option since I was returning the car at 4 a.m. We agreed that if I was able to return the car with a full tank of gas, I would not be charged the fee. I was able to put a full tank of gas in the gar, returned it, but was still charged the gas fee. I've emailed the Budget counter to resolve this problem and have received no answer.

    Nice car, not terrible service
Pros: I ended up liking the car. The facility was well maintained and the service staff were all nice enough, especially at check out.
Cons: The actual car and checkout process were fine. I didn't like the persistence in upselling the bigger car at checkin. I realize booking through a third party means they aren't getting paid as much, but even though I liked the car and he gave an additional discount, I felt pressured in a way I've never felt at Enterprise (where I normally book) which only made me more agitated as he tried to sell me the usual insurance add ons. I also did not like that Budget has you do your own preinspection. It's dark in those garages and if you miss something you could be liable for it (luckily I didn't, but still). I was uneasy about the contract because I just felt the process was one-sided. I always feel nervous and anxious about renting a car or anything else, but the other companies I have used at least go through everything more and it makes me feel more confident that I'm not about to get screwed six ways to Sunday. I don't drive a Chevy either - it would have been helpful for someone to show me where certain things were rather than me sitting in the car for 10 extra minutes figuring it all out.
