I would say not to rent a car that's really low to the ground with all the hills and uneven roads.
KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Eugene
A rental car is the perfect way to explore not only Eugene, but also other jaw-dropping locations in Oregon that are within reach. A car will give you the advantage of navigating freely across the state without having to depend on public transportation, allowing you to either go west to the Oregonian coast with its wild beaches, or east towards the many national forests of the Cascade Range, including Willamette National Forest, which is a 30-minute drive from Eugene.
Most of the big car rental agencies, including Alamo, Avis, and Enterprise, can be found at Eugene Airport (EUG), also known as Mahlon Sweet Field, which is less than 12 miles northwest of the city center. The car rental desks are situated within the terminal – just follow the Baggage Claim signs and then take a right. The rental cars are typically parked across the street from the main entrance.
Navigating Eugene is pretty straightforward, and you’ll be able to reach most places surrounding the city with a GPS. If you’re driving in the winter, remember you will most likely need good snow tires and chains. Oregon’s highways have “Snow Zone” signs, which indicate the current chain and traction tires’ requirements, so keep an eye out for those. If you’re driving in the rain or snow, allow yourself more time to get to places and be extra alert.
Eugene is one of the least congested cities in the country, but you will still see more people on the roads during morning rush hour (between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.), when people go to work and parents drop off their kids, and then again after 5 p.m., as everyone heads home. The I-5 towards Portland can get quite crowded too, so make sure you plan your journey in advance if you’re either heading there or driving from there to Eugene.
If you are in a hurry, avoid driving Eugene car rentals using Interstate 5. Interstate 5 is the main route through Eugene that commuters use, especially during rush hour; that runs from 7 AM to 8.30 AM and 3.30 PM to 6.30 PM. An alternative route that would still work for you is the Oregon Route 99. Always check your routes before you start the journey to get alternative routes and check the traffic state on various routes.
The primary safety measures when driving in Eugene are that you should always ensure that your Eugene car rental seatbelts are fastened. Additionally, if you have children below four years, ensure they are strapped into a child seat and in the back seat. For the safety of other road users, you cannot do a U-turn when visibility is impaired on a road that doesn't have speed limits. Additionally, don't make a U-turn at intersections and traffic signals, especially in metropolitan areas. You can turn right when the traffic signal is red as long as you stop to confirm if the road is clear. Before reserving your cheap car rental in Eugene, go through the updated parking and distracted driving laws.
Parking in Eugene is quite strict. The state doesn't allow drivers to double park. You can get free parking on the streets in central business districts. However, it should not be in bike lanes, railroad crossings, or near construction work. Don't park anywhere that can cause traffic, even at a crosswalk intersection. Additionally, Eugene parking laws have strict distance marks when parking close to a traffic signal, fire hydrant, or crosswalk intersection. For example, maintain the following distances: at least 50 feet away from a traffic signal and railroad crossing, 10 feet from a fire hydrant, 15 feet from a fire station driveway on the same side of the road, and 75 feet away if you are on the opposite side of the road.

Terrible! I reserved it online then wasn’t able to pick it up because I didn’t have a credit card. It had even taken my debit card while making the reservation. I went with a different rental company and wasn’t able to use my Budget reservation.

The only thing that he had was a Ram truck. I was ok with that thinking he wouldn’t give me a huge Ram truck. I am 83 and 5’1”. I went to the truck and pulled myself in. Good exercise I told myself. First stop would be some where I could buy a step stool and some rope to attach to the stool so I could pull it into the truck. Only one othèr problem I could not solve, I could not see over the steering wheel. I had to go back in and hopefully they could find me another car.

The didn't have a car ready for me at the airport. It was a big inconvenience, had to Uber to a different location to rent from another vendor.
We were expecting a Mazda compact but were given a Chevy Malibu, but that turned out to be ok.

Upon arrival, found out my request for car pick up at the airport had been changed to another location. Hertz staff was completely unhelpful. Told me to call the other store. Coming internationally, didn’t have a phone that could call locally. Found a cab on my own to head to another location. $35 and an hour and a half later, finally arrived to the other Hertz location. (Remember I just got off a very long flight from overseas!) although the staff was very helpful, I had to pay extra to be able to drop the car at the airport upon drop off. I was offered a, “Im so sorry, when the airport is out of cars, they do this!” Very disappointing and made my trip exhausting. But most of all disappointed in the attitude and unwillingness to offer any help from the airport Hertz staff.
Was disappointed my original choice was not available but the alternative did the job.

The staff was ready for us. They actually physically called the day before to confirm the rental and assured me they were ready for us, and they were ready us. Pick up was easy, drop off was seamless. Overall it was a great experience. I thank Enterprise for their product and service.

Everything was great, nice reliable car, staff was friendly
The car was very dirty inside and out. It was clear the vehicle was not cleaned from the previous rental. The key fob battery was almost dead and I was not able to lock/unlock the vehicle with it.

Car was not ready upon arrival even though we booked 2 months ahead. Had to wait over an hour after a very long flight, and had a 2 1/2 hour drive ahead of us. Agent was rude & seemed unconcerned. Car itself was fine, but customer service was poor.
