Overview Reviews
There are few things more enjoyable and relaxing than heading to a resort to get a spa treatment or to play golf. These activities are a great way to escape the daily grind and rejuvenate not just your spirit but your body as well. When it comes to getting the best treatment at a resort, the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa goes out of their way to meet even the highest of expectations. When looking at the quality of a resort and spa, the AAA four-diamond award is a great indicator of quality. At the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, the goal is giving comprehensive spa services including massages, facials, and other types of therapy. For duffers, the "links therapy" of getting out on the golf course is ideal. With a fun and challenging course, it is easy to enjoy a relaxing time out at a championship level golf course. Luxury is the name of the game, and with well-appointed rooms, you can be assured that you’ll get rest in great comfort. The plush beds and other furnishings are warm and inviting. You’ll feel comfortable, just as you would at your home and that’s what the rooms are designed for. The view of the desert, golf course, and other natural wonders are amazing from your room's window. Dining at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa is incredible as well. Enjoy excellent meals at Stonegrill, Twenty6, Meritage, Revive Spa Bistro, Just a Splash Bar & Grill, and Roy’s Pacific Rim.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The resort was amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The kids loved the pool area, especially the lazy river and slide. Nice 36-hole golf course on the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Went for my birthday overnight and the staff could not have made it more special for me. Starting at checking in, when we were upgraded to a room other with a king size bed and amazing view. They went above and beyond- we came back to the room to champagne, a handwritten birthday note, and cake! Then the pool concierge and staff (Nicholas, tabitha, yanna (sp?) and Camille all made us feel SO welcome and taken care of. They brought out a birthday dessert as well, while we were lounging by the pool. They comped a couple things and really made us feel celebrated and welcomed. It was a FANTASTIC customer service experience- which is rare to find these days!

5.1 Okay
Pros: The location was great. Staff were very friendly.
Cons: Garden room had a single window unit type AC that did not sufficiently cool the room. Hotel is currently under construction, which makes it very hard to get around. I found bits of cracker on the floor around my bed upon check in, but was too tired to deal with it at the time. The matress in my room felt old and sagged on one side. The pool bar closed at 5. The famous Catalina pool has many broken tiles. I was promised an emailed receipt at checkout, and have yet to receive it. I've made two calls to their accounting department and they have not returned my call.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Very Unique.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We celebrated our anniversary and were upgraded to a beautiful suite, and the front desk staff sent a beverage, chocolates and fruit to our room when they learned. Loved the room, the grounds are amazing and enjoyed the amazing amenities. We're planning to return every year.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous architecture and gardens; friendly and helpful staff, great breakfasts. Everything!
Cons: nothing.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Truly beautiful hotel. Beautiful grounds. Upgraded us to a private cottage room free of charge. Would love to stay here again soon.
7.1 Good
Pros: Many luxury features. Service very good and happy hour nice.
Cons: Hot tub not warm, bed sagged in middle, no robes, landscapers started gas power hedge trimmers at 8:35am for 45 minutes in courtyard next to room.
7.4 Good
Pros: Nice pool and gym. Great drinks at the hotel bar. Beautiful hotel.
Cons: They seemed to be incredibly short staffed in terms of housekeeping. On our first night, our room wasn't ready for check-in at 6:30pm -- 2.5 hours after the hotel's check-in time of 4pm. It seemed like it would work out in our favor because we got a room upgrade since our assigned room wasn't ready. But then on our second day our room wasn't cleaned until 4:30pm and on our third day, they didn't clean the room at all -- and we were out of the room from 10am until 9pm! When we called the front desk, they offered to send someone to clean the room, but it took 40 minutes for someone to show up.
7.7 Good
Pros: My room was nicely renovated but bathroom much to small. The shower when in use would soak the bathroom floor. The property is getting tired looking, time for a face lift. I returned after 10 years and was disappointed to find gym still to small, spa uninspiring, exercise studio and bike/tennis area a throw back to 1980. I would return to the front portico each morning from a long run and was never greeted by bell staff or offered bottled water as i stood there recovering from the run and sweating from the desert heat. I have become so accustomed to being greeted by staff with bottled water and towel upon returning from jogging at all great hotels that i really resented having to ask for it. The main lobby is beautiful and I enjoyed evening cocktails on the patio adjacent to the lobby. The bar staff was lovely. Lunch and breakfast in Frank and Albert's was painful to endure. Breakfast was so delayed with mistakes to the order and lunch was mediocre. The cafe also disappointed. One meal at each was one too many. Best meals were all off property. My daughter and I walked thru the shops and found once again we were back in the 80's. We love to shop so it was hard to believe there was almost next to nothing to buy. Housekeeping was a bit lacking of management, it seemed. Dirty dessert dishes lingered in my room for two days. The Scottsdale - Phoenix area has so many fabulous resorts, it's to bad The Biltmore doesn't seem to be one of them anymore.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Lots of places to sit and talk. Good facilities. Newly renovated rooms are very nice. Staff is great!
Cons: Smoking in the general seating areas outside
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful architecture and design elements of a Frank Lloyd Wright associate. Beautiful pools and eight of them. Good service.
Cons: Can be expensive. Self parking- quite a distance away.
6.8 Good
Pros: Mountain biking and guide (Chip) were excellent. Wright's was outstanding dining all around. Food, service, presentation, ambiance, price. If the entire resort were run like Wrights, this would be a five star resort. Spa services, attendants were great. Megan O. at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The lobby is beautiful. A Maintanence engineering employee whose name I did not get. The bicycle room service provided a bit of whimsy and were a delight to watch them ride through the resort. The swim up bar is a nice touch, but perhaps should not be immediately next to the kids water slide.
Cons: Was billed as a five star resort when I booked it. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice place with a lot of history. However, a five star resort implies attention to little details that separate you from other resorts. Those little details were missing. While I understand the main entrance is under renovation, the concrete blocks holding down the umbrellas for the valets looked cheap and haphazard. Not a good first impression. Upon arrival, no one offered to help with my bags, merely pointing me to the direction of the temporary main entrance. At that entrance, there is a small lip in the doorway, making it difficult to maneuver a roller bag. While the front desk did ask if I needed assistance with my bags, no bellhops were around if I did, and given the room location, they should have been more readily available, as my room in the garden wing is on the second floor accessible only by stairs. Upon check-in, I searched for ice (which with a bellhop could have been a non-issue at least for the first day). I could not locate the ice machine, or anything in the in-room literature to direct me. I found a housekeeper and asked her. She did not seem to know either. A maintenance engineering department employee coming out of a guest room overhead the conversation and immediately led me to the nearest ice machine himself. Unfortunately it was broken. Not only that, there was a bus cart full of dirty dishes stowed in front of it. Again, this is the kind of little detail a five-star resort takes care of. The ice machine in the adjacent paradise wing seemed more designed for "back of the house" rather than for a guest to be accessing it. Service at Frank and Albert's was very nonchalant. It did not seem as is they cared if we stayed to eat or not, or enjoyed our meal. Everything seemed to be under construction at once, causing noise throughout the day, from early in the morning until afternoon. When I asked about this, several, employees' response was "well, it's the slow season...." as if I should have lower expectations because it's August. Again, a little detail a five-star resort should nail. Guests should not notice a difference in staff attention regardless of "season." A few other "little details": In the lobby bar, the cords for the TVs and speakers were haphazardly hanging, not neatly along the wall. There was visible water damage on one of the corner speakers. A large cobweb was hanging in the corner and blowing with the AC. There were several areas where grout or paint had dripped onto the pressed concrete blocks from recent renovations but were left there, not removed. The pool desk was open and appeared to be staffed, but was unmanned for five minutes, leading me to walk behind the desk to help myself to clean towels as no one was around. Ultimately, we cut our stay a day short and moved to a different area five star resort, where we did not experience any negative issues.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Property is fantastic. Amazing history of the Biltmore, as seen in all the photos throughout.
Cons: Room needed updated

Pros: We liked that we did not have to leave since the hotel provided breakfast and an evening lite buffet as well as three drinks each.
Cons: The only problem we had was we set up a wake up call with the front desk that did not work. We must say, however, when they learned about the wake up failure they put together a very nice bag of goodies for us to take to the airport and snacks for on the airplane. Thank you to the employees of the Drury airport hotel.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Great service and breakfast include
Cons: Basic breakfast, but overall good
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It's close to the airport! They give you loads of free food! Like soft tacos with grilled chicken and salad. The airport shuttle doesn't run early enough for a 6am flight, but they'll hire you a cab instead - on them!
Cons: The exercise room is for 16-year-olds and up only; no exceptions. The pool wasn't super clean, though it was sanitary.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Great variety of breakfast items, as well as hot dinner/snack items that were all included in the nightly rate. There were even free alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as popcorn!
Cons: A little close to the highway, so it could be loud at times.

8.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice place
Cons: No smoking. $140+ rooms but $27 just to park in garage. And no the hotel doesn't pay for it dicount it or validate parking. This was a bummer.
7.1 Good
Pros: Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly, courteous and professional. Only guests can enter the guest room floors.
Cons: Our room's thermostat was not working right. Our room at the lowest temperature was freezing but at any higher temperature our room would be way too hot. There was no door on the shower which caused water from the shower to get on the bathroom floor, making it slick and a fall hazard. Our bed had no sheet, just the comforter and a small throw blanket. We had to request a sheet and add it to the bed ourselves. We had a very difficult time getting comfortable enough to sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the location, the décor, and the amenities and perks included with the hotel room stay. Overall, a great hotel. :)
Cons: I did not like the design of the shower, where it was only partially enclosed with a glass wall, where water could spray out onto the bathroom floor. The mattress was a little hard, and the pillows were a little flat.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Love the wine happy hour
Cons: The bed was only so-so. Mattress seemed old
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness
Cons: Room service took forever to show up...2hrs later
9.4 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is Nice and clean. The interior design is modern. The location is perfect if you want to take a stroll around downtown. From the front entrance, you can see the US Airways stadium, the Chase stadium or arena (sorry, not a sports fan) and just a few minutes walk away. Also it about a five to ten minutes walk to Heritage Square. One minus is the room we stayed in had only one chair and a long sofa for seating. Having just one chair made it tough for two of us to enjoy food or coffee in our room. I recommend friends to stay there, but because it's downtown, don't be surprised about how expensive parking can be, $23/night.
Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpful. Love the location - easy walk to arena and convention center and light rail. Plenty of restaurants, clubs, live music choices nearby as well.
Cons: While I didn't mind, some may be put off by the need to leave the hotel and cross the plaza to access fitness center and breakfast. Both are well worth the "inconvenience"

7.6 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel was great. It was in the heart of Phoenix. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The gym is very small and they were renovating so you could hear work being done and the elevators were really slow.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Great check in staff and very nice room.
Cons: Decided to stay in instead of going out and the bar staff at the hotel was horrible waited 15 minutes for first drink and then couldn't remember what the drink was. It was super expensive and staff not very personable
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yes concierge level very nice.
Cons: Nothing all was excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms. When I got off the elevator to go to my room, I stepped on the thickest, plushest carpet ever. Room was spotless. Lots of outlets on the desk so I was able to keep all my devices charged. All of the staff I encountered were pleasant and helpful. Even the valet, when my car was brought around, washed my windshield before I started out for home. Extremely easy to get back to I-10. The breakfast buffet was wonderful - including lots of fresh fruit and again. Walking distance to Chase Field as well as lots of bars and restaurants.
Cons: Would have liked to have had a magnifying mirror in the bathroom for putting on my makeup but there was lots of light.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Renaissance is close to so many cool downtown Phoenix venues - Valley Bar, Hanny's Seamus McCaffrey's, and Crescent Ballroom. We were able to walk around and had plenty to do all within walking distance.
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The Concierge Room is advertised as being for guests with rewards points at the Platinum or Gold level plus one guest. The hotel opened the Concierge Room to hundreds of pre-teen and teenaged girls unchaperoned, competing in a national ballerina event in the city. Business and professional guests very disappointed.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, clean rooms, quality amenities. Would return again.
Cons: A larger swimming pool with shaded areas would be nice. Otherwise, no complaints.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and good location.
Cons: Limited menu for dinner. Outdoor chairs and tables are great but had bird droppings on them.

9.1 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel ... lounge area, poolside are nice. Rooms are well kept and you have plenty of space.
Cons: Not complaining about the price, but I don’t like when hotels like this add on the numerous charges. Just give me a rate for the night. Also the staff at times were overwhelmed; may have been a wedding party at the hotel ... food and drinks took forever to receive
7.7 Good
Pros: On the verge of excellence. Lovely location. Culturally interesting . Accessible. Pool very nice .
Cons: Signage poor. Guest info lacking. Transportation options limited. Food just ok. No concierge.

At the back side of the hotel is a well maintained and very green driving range and golf course - with restful seating at the back of the hotel for hotel guests for outside dinning, just restful reading or conversation. The hotel is well located so that it is pleasantly peaceful and quiet.

8.2 Excellent
Pros: The decor was very cool. The vibe was great. Front desk was very friendly and helpful. We only stayed one night so didn’t have a lot of time to utilize the facilities like spa, pool, gym, etc. We had dinner at artizen. The drinks, food and service were outstanding.
Cons: I expected the bed to be a bit more comfortable. I could feel my husband moving around in his sleep. I The valet service was very nice, although $36 was very expensive for overnight parking and he didn’t help load the bags into the trunk when we picked up the car at checkout.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Food and Bar was Great
Cons: Free Parking.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was very good, comfortable and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. The gym facility was fully equipped. Enjoyed the breakfast although the price was a little high. The location of the hotel was good right opposite the shops.
Cons: The cost of parking at $33 plus taxes with no other option is very overpriced
6.0 Good
Cons: The hotel is basic. No real amenities. No sundries shop as well. There is a small pool and a standard gym. Some of the equipment is a bit old. The only plus is location. It is located right across from the Biltmore mall that has many upscale shops and dining options.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Bed was comfy and nice linens
Cons: The price of parking. I think it’s obsurd to charge guest to park!
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The room was great, the price was right, the staff was friendly and the proximity to the downtown area and shopping was perfect! We enjoyed the breakfast and lounged with a drink in the evening. All the fun pictures brought a smile to us as we rode the elevator or enjoyed a quiet sleep in our room. We would definitely stay here again.
Cons: We only wish we could have stayed longer!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cool, boutique hotel
Cons: not able to order morning room service the night before
6.2 Good
Pros: The restaurant and bar was very good. Excellent craft cocktails in the bar, and tasty entrees from the kitchen were available daily. The room was very quiet and clean. The TV in the room offers Netflix and Hulu and other apps free, if you have accounts for those apps.
Cons: The pool is poorly maintained. We were there for three days and it wasn’t cleaned once. It is also very small. Most importantly, for being a boutique hotel there are certain standards one must meet. For example, one ply toilet paper I might expect at a Motel 6, not here; only having one wash cloth for two people, and having to call each day to get the 2nd wash cloth is irritating. There was no information binder in the room, you have to look online to get all the hotel information that deals with Hotel services and you have to pay for the WiFi. Finally, charging $35, a night to park at the hotel is just ridiculous.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great that I could order food in the restaurant until 11pm and 24 hour room service. Hotel staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and professional. Loved the artwork in the halls. Such character and personality. Always something new to spot and explore.
Cons: Nothing. But the quality of the towels in the bathroom felt below the standard of the hotel in general.
