Checked in online the day prior to pickup. Was then asked to check in again on my way to get the car. Went to the rental counter to check in. Gave my license to the counter employee and then after several awkward minutes of no communication from the employee I asked if everything was in order. “I can’t check you in because there are no cars ready”. I then asked how long my wait would be the answer was “I have no idea”. Fortunately the car was ready in about 10 minutes. I found the car and noticed the windshield was dirty and the smell of the cleaner they use was so potent that it gave me a headache on my 16 hour drive. Long story short the car wasn’t ready, the check in employee was borderline rude and the car smell was terrible. Other than that it was great!Reviewed Mar 22 2026

They did not honor our rental car reservation. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle at the scheduled time, we were told we had to wait an hour to chat with a manager about whether or not a car was even available for our reservation.Reviewed Jul 16 2025

Admittedly, I haven't rented a car in a long time. The new, apparently across-the-industry policy of not using a debit card unless the reservation is made 24 hours in advance was a surprise. The manager at the location I attempted to rent from could have been way more helpful and understanding. I didn't cuss anyone out that day, but it wasn't because he didn't deserve it. We wait for 30" & take the shuttle to the car rental location / we wait in line for 45" for them to tell us we booked at a different location - I look at my email confirmation @ pay $39 to Uber to the location listed on my co formation email - it's a Hilton hotel & they said Hertz closed that location after the pandemic. I then try to call 9 get an actual person to try to find where our car is & after calling 4 locations & ask to speak to the local agency & no one answers any phones. I also tried to get someone at Kayak & no online chat available & God forbid anyone has a customer service phone number listed anywhere on their app. This was a pre-paid non-refundable rental. I gave up & got an Uber to our friends house which again cost $85 & we have now wasted 3hours & our friends made lunch for us & it takes another hour & 1/2 to get to their house because of traffic!! I waited on the phone over 30" to talk to someone to get credit for this debacle & received - but $3 credit - but no Uber reimbursement. I will never rent via kayak againReviewed May 15 2024
