Tons of hidden fees and then they hide behind booking through a third party to avoid accountability. One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had truly. I returned my car and afterwards received an incident report via email showing bumper and license plate damage. The damage was so slight I didn’t notice it. Luckily I always take a video of rental cars before I drive off the lot. In the video it proves the damage was already present on the car upon pickup. It’s been a week and they haven’t responded. My husband and I rent cars about 6-7 times a year and usually we have no problems. This is the last time I rent from hertz.Reviewed Aug 9 2026

I couldn’t even rent the car because they wanted to put on a hold on my credit card that was more than double the actual amount. I figured maybe a little higher, but I couldn’t rent the car and there was no way for me to cancel through Kayak or Hertz. Each told me the other had to cancel, so I have no idea if I’m getting charged or anything? This is why zipcar is better.Reviewed May 11 2026

Right so Hertz didn’t have the car. They didn’t have cars for around 15 people who came on time for their reservations. They refused to take responsibility and snapped at us for getting upset. We had ever right to be. We made reservations and paid ahead of time. They told us they had no cars. There were none in any location in all of the city. How a car company whose sole business is focused on renting and reserving cars could operate this way is beyond me. Absolute clowns. Their initial solution was to tell people to wait and “see” for up to 3 hours if a car would become available. That’s insane. I ended up having to go book a car at an airport in New Jersey for double the price. Horrible. I’ll never trust Hertz again.Reviewed Aug 4 2025
