Payless has great customer service for the situation we were out in. The insurance prices are crazy but at the end of the day it wasn’t Payless fault. This is a country requirement that we did understand prior to booking. The pick up was easy and Luis was great!! Drop off was simple as well and super friendly. Car was cleaned when we picked up and that was appreciated.

The check-in process took forever. It was a large line and at the beginning the attendance. Chatting among each other, Delaying the process. Finally, a young man came in. And checked in as many people as the previous to attendance did together. I’ve been to this car rental before, and it brought a memory of the last time we experience the same thing. Very frustrating.

I prepaid for my car only to get to the counter and wait for just under an hour. Once assigned a car, I again waited because I was then told my car was double booked. I finally got a car, and it was a great car. However, after turning it in on time I was charged for 3 additional days because they had me down as driving a completely different car. Definitely will Pay More next time and rent from someone else.

Getting from baggage claim to Payless terminal had to stand in long lines to get on the bus. The customer service agent was very nice and friendly. We ended up getting an electric car, but never told us about what charging stations we could use being not familiar with that type of electric car and where the charging stations were a big problem wasted a lot of time during our driving experience, trying to find chargers that would work.

Payless always comes through, the pickup and dropoff process is fast and easy never any issue.. The payless cars are very updated and reliable, the price is always affordable and the deposit is always given back as soon as you drop it off, no extra charges or fees.. I highly recommend them, been using them for the past 3 yrs everytime i travel and not 1 issue..

Also maybe not gouge those of us who had to use our airline tickets before they expire and we all show up to Hawaii at once. I guess I’m glad I paid double instead of triple the price, or at least we had a car. Thanks for having a few left. The trip was great. The car was great. The price was not. I hope my donation goes to getting some more cars so I don’t have to worry about it next time. I’d have done the exact same thing if I was in your shoes.

Staff was exceptional. I was assisted checking in at a kiosk and probably did it in less than five minutes. At the drop off, I was done in about the same time. I should have taken longer because I left my prescription glasses in the car. But they found them and contacted me before id even had time to file a claim.

Cons:

I dislike the USB connection in the car (I know: a manufacturer’s problem). The unit never communicated adequately with my iPhone, wouldn’t display my map, and insisted on playing my music in alphabetical order, starting over each time I started the car.

Not sure I got the best deal. I rented through Kayak and was quoted a price. My CC got compromised shortly after ordering my car through Kayak. When I went to pickup my car at Sixt the agent wanted my CC used to rent the car. I asked why it was already paid. I told him what happened the the CC. He said he would have to cancel the prior reservation, and start over. When all said and done I feel the car cost was more than the orignal reservation. Did not want to hassle with it as long as I got refunded my orignal purchase. Six days later the refund posted. The guy at the counter was nice but the whole process did not make since given the car had already been paid and appoved. Any additional expenses should have been applied to the new CC. When checking out the rental no one walked through the car inspection. No way to document any damage observed prior to driving off. Also no option to pay for fuel in advance or at least it was never explained. Most agencies tell you the cost of fuel at the rental car and give you the option to pay in advance. Checking the car in the lady was friendly and inspected the car thoroughly same thing should be done initialy ensuring the leasee understands the features of the car. I had one experience where I failed to shut the drivers door completely and when I tried to to put the car in reverse it locked up and would go saying parking assist engaged. Spent 20 minutes playing with the car until i realized that the car would not engage because the door had not completely closed. I would rent from them again.

Being required to buy extra insurance at the airport check-in kiosk before I could pick up the car was a real downer, and a bad way to start a vacation. Technically not "required", but being told that without it they would take the car out of service and charge me an unspecified daily "loss of use" fee while they corrected anything they determined was a defect (such as a car park door ding or a windshield chip) comes to the same thing.

I received an email from Sixt when I landed stating I could get a free upgrade to an SUV. At the registration desk, they upgraded me. Then they surprised me with $109 in additional charges to my invoice. Plus, the vehicle had a lot of damage on it.

The “wildcard special” while the desk agent claimed to have a “full fleet” of vehicles was not so much a wildcard as your choice in color of your Chevy Spark. Would be less disappointed and more accurate to just call it a compact or budget rental than “wildcard special”.

We waited over an hour in the Maui heat trying to get our car. Not enough agents to help out the 20+ customers in line. Once we got to the desk, our agent was courteous and helpful. Your policy of charging extra for an additional driver is just wrong and not appreciated. Our car was ok but had been hosed down and was wet inside as well as outside.

Had to wait 20 minutes for a mid size car since they were all out. Sales lady would only allow you to use a credit card with the driver’s name, not spouse’s name even though the reservation was made under me and they had already charged a deposit on that card.

There was nothing I liked about dollar rental car in Maui. They were a total ripoff. The car had a flat tire and I was charged a $939 dollar towing fee.

The best thing that could happen is if they go out of business in Maui so they can not rip off other consumers.

The first car we were offered was what looked to be an older Kia not a Ford Edge.that we selected. I asked if they had something a little nicer and a little newer and they gave us a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car was great. I'm glad I asked.

The car’s dashboard system said an oil change was needed when I started the car, but the staff said that Hertz has a different idea of how frequently the oil needs to be changed than Nissan does, so we drove for 10 days in a car that needed an oil change. It felt a little unsettling, but nothing bad seemed to happen. As an after thought, I would have taken a pic of the dashboard in case something had happened and Hertz tried to pin it on our usage.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
