No spare tire in van. Spent the better part of a day dealing with it when problem could have been solved in 10-15 minutes. Budget said they take the spares out of the vans… what kind of policy is that? Broken down on “road to Hana” nearest gas station 1hr 15 minutes away… one way! The Pick-Up was an extremely poor experience. From the moment we got to the terminal and the woman outside demanded that only renters are allowed inside. Anyone else had to wait outside with the baggage. I waited in line for one hour, because there was only one agent working the Budget window. Eventually, a couple of other agents came out to help, but that was over 40 minutes into still waiting in line. The thing that really set me off was one agent, an older, white gentleman, after he came back from his break, made a joke “now helping #477“ Everyone in line looked at each other with bewilderment and I finally said something out loud, “we’ve been waiting in line for 45 minutes and you’re making jokes?“ It was completely inappropriate. You would think that on a Saturday afternoon in Maui, Budget would have staffed more appropriately for the level of business they were experiencing. Tweezers found under the seat. Windshield washer fluid low. Waited over an hour to pick up the car because the “fast pass” didn’t work. When I finally got to the counter the customer service representative said that was “not uncommon.” The price was great though.Reviewed Apr 19 2026

Took about an hour to get a car. In the first one, the lever to pull the seat forward did not work. That was after waiting for 20-25 minutes for a car. The second one did not have a usb port, which I had specified I needed. It took around 75 to 90 minutes just to get to the rental counter. When we entered the queue, they only had 2 people working. When we reached the front of the queue, they opened 1 more agent. And by the time we were done with our Ppwk, they added 2 more agents. They were way understaffed for the amount of flights that arrive Maui at that time of day. When we reached our assigned vehicle, it was filthy on the exterior. The vehicle also had many scrapes on all sides. The interior had been vacuumed, but the dash had dirt/sunscreen from previous renters. I looked at the vehicle year of manufacture because the seats were very worn and stained. It was a 5 year old minivan. The minivan was due for a computer update and that notice was on the screen every time the van was started. The backup camera intermittently malfunction and the screen would be a solid blue. I have photos of both those issues as well as a walk around video showing the condition at p/u. The return process was simple but we wanted to inform the employees of the computer issues and they just waved us in and didn't want us to stop to discuss with them.Reviewed Apr 12 2026

There wait to pickup the car on a Thursday afternoon in Maui was lengthy. There were only 3 agents working and a line of 20 plus guests. It took well over an hour and we had paid for and reserved the car weeks earlier. That’s very poor customer service. The price I paid was the only thing that saved it for me-it was more than 1/2 off thru Kayak then directly thru Budget, even with Costco or AAA discounts.Reviewed Apr 2 2026
