Wonderful small hotel right in the heart of the Lower East Side of NYC. You step out the hotel door and you are in the real NYC. Less than a block away from a subway station. Beautiful 7th floor patio that you can see views of the Empire State Building, Freedom Tower and the Chrysler Building. Every type of restaurant you can think of within walking distance. A Whole Foods a block away.
The mattresses in the rooms could be a little better quality. Not terrible but could be better.
This was our second stay at Hotel East Houston and we still liked it. The rooms are quite small but big enough to not feel claustrophobic. There's a glass wall between the bathroom and the room, so you'll need to be pretty comfortable with your traveling partner. I liked the fact that our room had an Air conditioning/heat system we could control on our own.
The hotel is not super convenient to any major Subway lines. Houston Street is often busy so you'll likely hear some street noise in your room. But hey, that's NYC for you.
nice folks, good location, good free coffee
very uncomfortable bed, low grade cheap bed linens, old carpet floor, bad lighting in room.
This hotel was in a great location close to everything- subway, restaurants and bars. The room itself was nice and clean, it seems like it was recently updated.
Like most hotels in NYC, it's small. It also doesn't have a bar or restaurant on site, but with so many near it you don't need to worry.
I needed a hotel close to a conference I was attending and found a deal here online. this turned out to be a great choice. Affordable small room is well furnished perfect for one person or a couple who like to be close! I travel with a service dog, and the hotel staff treated us both extremely well. There was a ton of fun NYC activity to do in walking distance & subway is right across the street, so my business trip included the requisit level of evening debauchery. If you'd rather spend your time in the city out on the town than in your room, this perfectly fine hotel saves ya money you could spend in restaurants & at shows!
pipes creak... really that's all i got. the building's old world charm I guess!
The staff was so nice and the room was clean & comfortable. A great deal in a fun neighborhood. They even held onto my luggage after check out so I could run around the city before heading to the airport.
The rooms are all situated by the elevator which can get a little noisy but not too bad.
I've stayed here at least 5 times now, so finally felt compelled to review. The hotel is nothing truly fancy but it almost feels that way. Rooms are very small, but they're nice. If you're there for business or travel and not planning to stay inside you'll be fine. I've stayed in hotels for twice the price that feel to be the same scale. I keep returning bc they make it easy. The staff is super friendly and the location is literally steps from the subway. More then anything it's the price vs facilities that can't be beat. For the same $$ you'd be staying in generic corporate hotels that are uglier, less clean and grumpy. There's also coffee and tea served all day, which is nice.
The elevator is slow and they no longer serve breakfast.
Everything was great, especially the location and the hotel was very new and clean.
The rooms are very small, but that is just NY in general.
very clean, very good staff, very good to have continental breadfast downstairs, newspapers,
very small room, could have had table or chair
Very clean, unexpectedly stylish.
Single room - No room to open up luggage, no chair or table. It's not a room to hang out in (but that's not why people go to new york city anyway).
The staff were so nice. Love the roof terrace. The shower and bathroom are really good. Good size TV. The heating system was good but quite loud. Very comfy bed. Amazing location!
Hated the see through glass between the bed and bathroom, really off putting, hard to get privacy with a guest! Can you add a blind? There could have been more options as breakfast, it was good but a bit boring/samey.Not much storage in the room, I had the queen room and there was not a lot of storage, it would have been very difficult with 2 people! The internet wireless connection wasn't that strong but the cable was good - it may have just been my computer. Not great value but I would love to be sent offers so that I can come again as I need somewhere that's better value. I would definitely come back if I got a good deal!
Staff extremely pleasant, competent and available. Location perfectly suites my needs. Pleasant, comfortable, and clean accomodations provided at lower cost than full size accomdations with like features. I am happy you fill (created?) this niche.
The hotel was clean & tidy but the pictures on the web site are not a true representation.
The " staff", I found the staff at this hotel rude & unhelpful & I will most definately not be staying again or recommending this hotel. I was very disapointed.
Everything. Best location, friendly and helpful staff, internet connection, cleanliness, rooftop, etc.
breakfast & computer room
the room in the lobby that i was first assigned
Good, helpful, friendly staff, clean facility. Good accomoodations but room very small, so a great hotel for the money if you are only using it to sleep in. The hotel is a good value, but a a long walking distance from the main part of Soho and a $20+ cab fair into mid Manhattan.Alsoas a woman traveling alone,I was not sure about walking around the hotel after dark, so I cabbed back at night.
Rooms are not well lit. As a business travller you cannot do any work in your room as it is too smallll for a desk, but the hotel has a nice lounge area with computers on a lower level. there is a very small tv in the room, they also have a large screen tv in the lounge area, where you can sit and relax, as there was only a bed in the room. It is really only a "sleeping room.
The roof terrace is amazing!
The breakfast is very basic. There is no gym in the hotel.
