Service staff at garage area were super nice, however the staff at airport counter were not attentive. In fact, I was the only one in line while it took 4 helpers working on one customer until I walked up to them and asked if someone else could help me. The one girl told me, "well i am open", ummm, then why not call over to me at line and tell me that! Why wait until I approach...no sense of urgency or customer service. Then vehicle had some broken items upon pick up. Probably would rent from another vendor to tell you the truth.....Reviewed May 30 2023

Overall the pickup/ dropoff process was smooth and easy. The vehicle was clean and generally seemed ok. However, Payless clearly had not rotated the tires since purchasing this vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma with ~33,000 miles. There were obvious bald spots on each of the tires and at >60 MPH I could feel an obvious shaking of the steering wheel which made the ride feel very unsafe. Additionally, this lack of tread on the tires could have created some very unsafe scenarios. I did not notice the bald spots on the tires until I had already driven far from Salt Lake City, otherwise I would have complained and had them trade out a different vehicle.Reviewed May 19 2023

The gas tank wasn’t full when I picked it up, about 3/4 tank and I knew I had no way to prove that after realizing after I’d driven off the lot. Also the car itself was not in great shape, shaky alignment that made it hard to steer and the windshield wipers need to be replaced. We were driving through a snow storm and it was pretty awful.Reviewed Mar 7 2023

Never again. Payless / Avis at SLC are the worst. Booked a standard SUV a few hours before pickup because it was snowing. I had my wife and a 1 year old with me. On arrival, there were no options other than minivan at pickup. I made it to my destination somehow which was extremely stressful given the wife and kids. It snowed more overnight and the minivan was useless in those conditions. They could not provide an alternative and would not tow the car without charging me even though the I explained the minivan would not be suitable. I ended up getting it towed myself back to SLC. And after 1 and half days of my vacation on the phone being passed from Avis customer service to Payless who didn't recognize my booking. they finally gave me a refund (still being processed.... ) but what about all that lost time because they can't run a car rental business. I understand how fleet business works but these guys take the biscuit. Even though I was refunded - I was down the tow charge and the 1.5 days of vacation. Bad counter service - provide no additional options and tries to pretend it is an upgrade. Useless customer service - Payless and Avis don't recognize booking depending who you call. Pass you around until your will to live ebbs away. People rely on these services and use vehicles to ensure their families are safe - if you book 4 hours before pickup - I would expect the class of car to be available. If you can't manage that business. They don't deserve the rental car licenseReviewed Mar 1 2023

They don't provide a walk around prior to picking up vehicle. My wife's car was damaged in the front end prior to pickup. She wasn't aware and drove it to her destination. Front plastic guard fell off. Tow truck had to bring another vehicle and pickup the damaged vehicle. The vehicle that was dropped off was never serviced. Had oil change and engine light on the way back to Salt Lake City. Will never use Payless again.Reviewed Jun 15 2022

Vehicle was fine. We signed up for a Jeep Cherokee and instead received a Jeep Wrangler which was sufficient for our needs. Your counter person was a bit grumpy with everyone. Other than that, the overall experience was good. I will likely use Kayak/Payless again on my next rental.Reviewed Mar 26 2022
