The room and bed were comfy I like everything pritty much
Decor, room & staff were amazing. The hotel has a very active-lifestyle, current, relevant, green, boutique vibe. Very hippster yet unpretentious and comfortable. We will say here everytime we are in Reno. It is also right in the heart of the casino strip if that's your thing and the river district. Hotel restaurant has a great vibe but we had dinner elsewhere. Excited to eat at the restaurant, we were disappointed to be told there was a wait for the kitchen to catch up even though half the restaurant was empty. We don't terribly mind a wait but were further surprised that we were not offered an empty table for a drink or two. No pagers or method of contact were available to let us know when they could seat us, which made the situation a bit more ackward. We finally made the decision to eat elsewhere, at Campo and were so glad we did. Excellent food & service!
The entire place was incredibly clean! Thank goodness for a Non-Casino based Hotel in Reno! Finally a place we can stay without all the noise and awful smoke! Nothing worse for a non smoker than waking up sick in the morning from all the smoke you had to wade through; or worse the smoke that seeps into your room. We will definitely be back, see you soon! Parts of the surrounding blocks are a bit shady looking. BUT it appears to be improving.
Renovated but it's still an old building. Has everything you would expect a hotel room to have. Good view. Staff was great. Everything felt cheap. The room has only one winow ando the bath tub felt like it was flexing underneath me. Walls are very thin. And you can hear everything out side. Only parking was valet unless you wanted to walk.
Coffer maker in the room was nice...personal Keurig Breakfast was bad and one morning there was no hot food.
Friendly awesome staff - from checkin, to restaurant on site, to valet. Clean and beautiful hotel. Look forward to coming back to Reno.
Comfort The bed was fantastic--one of the best I've slept in at a hotel. The rooms are kept very clean and the housekeeping staff are great. Location -Upside The location is very convenient and makes access to surrounding events and venues a short walk. Family Friendly Non-smoking and non-gaming make this a unique hotel perfect for families. The climbing walls (indoor and outdoor) looked like a lot of fun and I would have tried them had I not been so busy. Cramped and slow The elevators are slow and malfunctioned several times during my stay. The entry felt as though I was sneaking in the back door of a night club. There was no convenience store and all of the public areas felt cramped. Location - Downside The convenient location can be a bad thing as my last night found me trying to sleep with a rock concert going on in the street literally under my window. Admittedly, though, I did try to go to bed early and the music was over by 10:30. Internet Deficiency The W-Fi was horrible. It was spotty and required accepting of the terms every time it reconnected. The Wi-Fi that's free with your stay was slower than my cell phone and the broadband we paid for in hosting a conference wasn't much faster. *What's worse, that broadband was down for two of the three days of our conference.* That was a whole lot of money down the tubes.
Place was clean looked modern. The only Thing was the location it was in the heart of Reno but had a few pan handlers approach me. However I think that's just how Reno is now in general
This hotel is a gem in the middle of the desert. The location is fantastic, within walking distance from many attractions. The rooms were private and relatively noise-canceling. The only time we heard our neighbors was when they would let the doors slam. The absolute best part about the hotel is that the entire venue is smoke-free and non-gaming. Check out was a breeze, and valet had our car ready before we made it down from our room. Overnight valet parking was a bit expensive, especially for those who do not require in and out privileges. Vegetarian options in regards to room service were very limited, but it wouldn't keep us from coming back.
Smoke free, non-casino Slow elevator; no service elevator
Reno is usually about dingy hotel rooms inside of casinos. This hotel was the first time we had ever seen anything different, and it was really nicely done. The renovation was high end and nicely done, from the public spaces to the individual rooms. The staff was also super friendly. There were two drawbacks. One was the parking. The garage was really gross, with garbage everywhere and even an abandoned car. The garage entrance is far from the hotel entrance. The garage has an attendant hiding in a room so it's as though the garage is unattended and anyone off the street can go in there. And on top of all that the hotel doesn't validate parking. It's just a random downtown garage that isn't part of the hotel and doesn't feel very safe. The other drawback was that everything in the hotel closes early so if you want to do anything other than sleep you might have to go to the casinos anyway.
Location, good service and cleanliness. Non smoking a plus. Good size room. The finish line to a marathon was right outside the hotel and someone was using a loud speaker at 7AM IN THE MORNING to announce runners crossing and getting the crowd riled up. Then police on a motorcycle proceeded to use their sirens as the runners were getting getting close and finishing. Went on foe more than an hour. That was awful. Had I known I would have stayed somewhere else. Did not get the sleep and rest I was looking for Sunday morning because of the marathon. It was awful.
Very happy stay at dirt cheap prices. Clean and quiet room. No hassles at all. I'd stay again.
Affordable prices at certain dates.
The Sands is a clean, friendly hotel that's easy on your budget! It's also within walking distance to other casinos if you want to venture out. Our room was close to the elevator, which was kind of a distraction due to the noisiness. Be sure to ask for a room furthest from the elevators.
Simple, good people Signs to location of front desk not placed very logically
Room was sizable, nice view of city & surrounding snow capped mountains. On property food selection is handy with Starbucks onsite. Easy access & free parking. Front desk supervisor helpful. If you are looking for a quiet accommodation this is NOT it! Property is wedged between freeway and railroad tracks. Yes, trains run 24x7! Walls are paper thin, with ongoing foot traffic in hallways all night. However, the lack of internet service is inexcusable. Hotel management blocks unpaid access and for the upgrade you may enjoy literally hours of offshore technical support. I left at 11pm on my second night to find more appropriate ambiance and the business service that should be a top priority for any modern facility. Smoking permitted on first/lobby floor leaves a bad impression for the health conscious.
Noise pipes, vents
low prices, internet included, free parking terrible martini, but it was only $3! no gym or pool, but it is a gambling hotel.
This was a smoking hotel. We couldn't get away from the smell, even in my room. The review said this was a 4 star hotel. I travel for a living and I wouldn't give this hotel more then a 1 star. Panels were missing or failing off the walls exposing wires. The carpets were stained and the furniture was in bad condition. I am very angery that we were mislead.
Given what housekeeping had to work with; they do make effort to keep common areas tidy. Staff ambivalent & abrupt poor food quality choices on site antiquated facility with obvious wear over the decades not maintained rocking aged elevators
One problem was that the bathtub was plugged and would not drain.
Convenient location in downtown Reno with good parking and cheap rooms. Although I requested and was given a non-smoking room, the smell of smoke and other ghastly odors were more than I could bear. After checking into my original room, I moved to another, but stayed only one night of my three day planned stay.
My husband and I got the room for a good price . 100 a night rather that 275 at the peppercorn. It was a small casino but very charming. I had so much fun at the roulette table. Comic Convention and and Am Way Seminar were held the same wwekend so it was a little crowded but comfortable. The rooms a bit outdated like the reat of the hotel. You can see what your infor just by parking and looking at the outside of thw building. If you dont mind missing out on the luxury by a long shot.... Its a good deal for the money. The tooms are clean and comfortable.
They down sized my original reservation from a king size bed to a queen size bed, because they didn't have any more available, the room they put me in it was to small, with a lot of malfunctions in it, like the tub was clogged, the shower temperature control handle wasn't working, room was dirty. Just to name a few. Very bad experience with it.
The mattress was VERY comfortable. the shower head was a joke! Had to work to even get wet! The toilet had a slight leek that would cause the tank to refill just a bit occasionally thru the night. The pillows were to firm for a side sleeper. All were the same thickness. Not a variety of thickness'
How close it was to the show that we were going to everything is right there whether it be going to another casino or going shopping I stayed many times at the El Dorado in the past the staff was always so friendly at not only the hotel all the restaurants, bars, and Casino floors not so much this time They used to have awesome coupons that they gave you when you checked in I wasn't so impressed with them this time.
How we got the room Thru Kayak Parking
Allowed us to walk around in comfort versus wearing motorcycle gear. Reno and Vegas prices just keep going up.
I always appreciate the friendly, helpful staff at the Eldorado. Everyone always seems happy and in a good mood. They are very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The rooms are comfortable and have everything I need.
Restaurants closed at anywhere from 8 to 9. Pool was located in the middle of the hotel on the 4th floor and the sun was blocked by a tower for a portion of the day. The casino paid out little money and there were never any desire to sign you up with a players card.
Were renovating rooms on the floor I was on. It was extremely loud and made it hard to sleep in after a night out.
Every thing was excellent...The bed was so comfortable when we returned home we bought one just like it.. The only thing I didn't like was there little tray on the dresser that had snacks on it..you had to be very careful not to bump it because you could be charged for one of them if they moved to much..I don't mind the mini bar but on the dresser were you like everything was not good..
Quiet and peaceful! All the staff were friendly and helpful. Liked everything.
great selection of restaurants extra fees on top of room rates. Total price should be included in initial quotes.
Nice river view room, clean No mention the property is distressed financially, spa, pool and restaurants are closed for "renovations". Not a lick of construction activity could be observed. Front desk at check in, shared the casino " closed last year" and will not reopen when the property is rebadged in 2016-17. Other guests were equally mislead and frequently mentioned their opinion of the deception when
I loved the restaurant inside, good food. I liked the swimming pool and how it looked inside. The staff that cleaned the rooms were nice. I didn't like the small rooms, for the price. Bathroom was small. The slot machines weren't good. Inside the gambling area, not enough action. The server that was bringing drinks on the gambling floor, was not friendly at all. They need to bring better slot machines and entertainment to get more people in there. Seems more business like and not a kid friendly place. Alot of people working there, didn't seem happy. Could be due to the rumor they're getting bought out next year.
Bed was big enough. Bathroom was spacious. looks pretty on the outside & lobby. Self parking is huge. Affordable pricing. Pillow was too soft. Shower head was old, water pressure was too soft. There was no vent in the bathroom & couldn't lock the door. Not enough outlets to plug near nightstand & speaker dock was only for iPhone 4, needs to be upgraded. Casino was closed.
The hotel room was cleaner than the rest of the property. The hotel is in the process of becoming a No Smoking and No Gaming property. Which for me is a huge plus Hotel under renovation as it is converted to Renaissance. Had trouble finding hotel due to lack of signage. Air Conditioner unit is in room with no thermostat control Mattress was extremely uncomfortable Rooms were not well insulated for noise. Noise in the corridor all night long.
I liked that parking was "free"(although they charge you a hotel fee so i guess it isn't really) and the rooms had a refridgerator already in them. There was a convenience store close by. The hotel was quiet and not as busy as the casinos down town. It wasn't downtown. I thought the walk would be a little shorter but due to the construction sometimes it took a little longer. Also, there was no casino for gambling.
Friendly staff. Accomodated us with our request for early check in for free. There was a hair in the towel. Casino was closed for renovation.
Good value for money Noisy rooms
I booked a room at this hotel for one night december 26th 2015 I showed up late at 5:00 pm due to bad traffic The staff told me the room was not ready with very rude attitude. I asked when would it be ready . The female staff returned with " i dont know " in a very rude way I was not happy with her reply. What did it mean by i dont know. I should be ready for us to check in at 3:00 pm. However, the thing i got frustrated was the attitude from the unfriendly female staff :). I got to my room eventually. There was no towels . What the heck? It took another hour for us to get towels. :). I asled for the rollaway bed twice. It never came. I would never return to this hotel again. Stay away from it. Or else it may ruin your vacation/holiday spirit
Stayed out late on New Year's Eve. Woke up the next morning and there were no pillowcases on the pillows that we were sleeping on in the bed. Also the inside of the shower was not cleaned the glass was not wipe down. Ran the thermostat on 80° and it never got hotter than 70° in the room it was cold. And very low water pressure in the shower, impossible for two people to take a shower at the same time.
the rooms were nice, clean. the staff was every friendly overall a nice hotel. if you are looking for just a hotel. Karl the bar tender was great! the web site shows a casino and restaurants. the only place to eat there was a Johnny rockets. the a/c hardly worked and was every loud.water pressure was really weak.
Staff put us in a room that wreaked of smoke. Called front office 3 times to get a new room, no response. Angry, I called again to complain, Front Desk hung up on me because "I was raising my voice". Front Desk then called back, like they were doing me a favor, and with lots of attitude, and said they found a new room. A half hour later we had a new room that was smaller, without the two Queen beds we paid for, but didn't smell of smoke. One elevator had a key reader that didn't work, so we couldn't get to our room unless we used the other elevator. Before staying here, I would share a sidewalk with a homeless person and sleep on the ground.
* Very nice inside * Extremely clean * Smallest king room that I have ever stayed in (even among boutique hotels) * Hot tub was not working, despite being brand new - I came to Reno for Tough Mudder and that was one of my main reasons for staying there was to come back and soak in a nice new hot tub
The only redeeming factor in our stay there was the location. Of the two elevators, one was out of service (apparently for months) and the other one was extremely slow, taking 18 seconds to open on each floor. This lone elevator serviced 18 floors and gave me the impression of it might quit at any time. Additionally there was a sign on the stairs saying “For emergency fire use only.” Talk about having a trapped feeling. The Cal Neva's rooms show obvious neglect in maintenance; there were holes in the bathroom door, flooring coming up in the bathroom, faucets that barely functioned and a broken chair at the desk near the bed. In all it was not a good experience and I will never stay there again and do not recommend that anyone else stays there either. The Cal Neva should use some of their profits and maintain or better yet update their stinking hotel.
Sheets made me itch. Carpet was really dirty. Bathroom doesn't flush properly. TV needs upgrade. Smelled really bad. Light bulbs were disgusting and a couple weren't working. Elevator is outdated and feels like it's gonna break on you.
Spacious room Poorly maintained, dirty.
Close proximity to the location of the event I was in town for FILTHY! splatter on the walls dirty baseboards goo on the walls in the bathroom cigarette burns in the carpet (reserved a non-smoking room) and bathroom counter found a cigarette butt on the rug as you enter the bathroom dirty floor in the bathroom the smell of cigarette smoke and pot filled the room the AC was noisy and rattled
