Top Tips for Renting a Convertible Car in Santa Ana

  • Driving Santa Ana convertible car rentals is an utterly ideal way to explore this city in Southern California. With the wind blowing through your hair, you can drive to the beach, down to San Diego or San Luis Capistrano, inland to Palm Springs, or north to everything that Los Angeles and Hollywood have to offer. You could drive to Disneyland in style and enjoy the Southern California nightlife, making an impression wherever you go. Even if you are in town for business, you can enjoy sunny California between appointments.
  • Because Santa Anna and Southern California in general are known for incredibly congested traffic on both surface streets and the freeways, consider investing in a GPS add-on in order to help you navigate around the worst traffic snarls. Both freeways and surface streets tend to have stop and go traffic during peak rush hours of 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 3:30 pm to 7 pm. When driving around on city streets, be careful because you will be sharing the road with a lot of people on bicycles, both day and night. Be especially aware of bicycle lanes when you are making a right turn.
  • The John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Santa Ana is the closest airport to Santa Ana, but when you are flying in, you might also land at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Burbank Hollywood International Airport (BUR), or Ontario International Airport (ONT). Each of these airports have agencies with Santa Ana convertible car rentals available. The car rental counters at SNA are conveniently located in between baggage claim carousels. At BUR, you can walk across the parking lot to the parking structure that houses the rental car facility. At ONT, you can board a free shuttle at the arrivals curb that will take you to their rental car facility. At LAX, free rental car shuttles will take you to an agency location off airport grounds but nearby.
  • It is unlikely that a car rental agency will allow Santa Ana convertible car rentals off the lot unless they are adequately insured. For this reason, you should either purchase the insurance that the car rental agency offers or bring proof that your own insurance will cover the vehicle. If you intend to opt out of purchasing car rental agency insurance, make sure you have photocopies or screenshots of either your personal automobile insurance policy or your credit card insurance policy.
  • Book your convertible car rental in Santa Ana at least 2 days before your trip in order to get a below-average price
  • January is typically the cheapest month to rent a convertible car in Santa Ana, with prices around $68 per day. The most expensive month is February, with average prices of $93 per day.

FAQs About Renting a Convertible Car in Santa Ana

  • Is it allowed to drive Santa Ana convertible car rentals across the border into Mexico?

While many car rental agencies will allow renters to drive their vehicles across the border into Mexico, they often prohibit specialty cars, such as convertibles, from leaving the country. If you are interested in driving Santa Ana convertible car rentals into Mexico, discuss this with the car rental agency, because you must obtain permission. Also, the car rental agency must sell you a Mexican liability insurance policy. You cannot drive across the border into Mexico without it.

  • What is the minimum age for securing Santa Ana convertible car rentals?

In California, you have to be at least 21 years old in order to rent a car. However, many agencies will set the minimum rental age higher for convertibles. Some agencies set the minimum rental age for specialty cars at 25 years old or older. So, if you are in your twenties and interested in Santa Ana convertible car rentals, contact different Santa Ana car rental agencies in order to find one that will rent a convertible to someone of your age.

  • Is there any weather I should be aware of when I'm driving a Santa Ana convertible car rental?

Drive extremely cautiously in your convertible if it should rain while you are in Santa Ana. Because of such heavy traffic leaving oil deposits on the roads, Southern California roads become incredibly slick when it rains. Furthermore, sudden rain often causes flash flooding on streets because of inadequate sewer systems. If you encounter standing water in the roadway while it is raining, do not attempt to drive through it in Santa Ana convertible car rentals because you will most likely stall out the car and get stranded.

  • How does KAYAK find such low convertible car rental prices?

KAYAK compares convertible car rental prices from all major car rental companies such as Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Payless and more to find you the best deal.

  • How much does a convertible car rental cost in Santa Ana?

On average a convertible car rental in Santa Ana costs $103 per day.

  • Which car rental companies in Santa Ana rent convertible cars?

Car rental companies in Santa Ana that rent convertible cars include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Midway and National.

  • How much does it cost to rent a convertible car for a week in Santa Ana?

On average a convertible car in Santa Ana costs $718 per week ($103 per day) to rent.

  • How much does it cost to rent a convertible car long term for a month in Santa Ana?

On average a convertible car in Santa Ana costs $3,077 per month ($718 per week) to rent.

Upon dropping off my car rental, I was told there was another $195 charge. I asked the front desk & said I signed for the daily protection of $25. I know I didn’t and refused it at the day of pickup. When I confronted the service desk, they just told me I signed it but wouldn’t give me proof and told me to contact customer service myself. Luckily I checked upon return of car when they guy had me signed the iPad for drop-off. Called the customer service hotline and they said they would send to dispute but no resolution as of yet. So check your drop-off receipt to see if if they tacked on unnecessary fees. You could be getting ripped off

I’m not sure where the problem resides, but our reservation on KAYAK was not clear and accurate. We called Hertz to inquire about possibly picking a car up earlier. They informed us that the car that we had rented was a managers, special and that deal was an electric car. We did not realize that we would have to drive an electric car 400 miles to return it at another location. We had to get another car and that raised our rental by $50 not including tax.
