Land in SFO at 10PM -- flight was 30 minutes early at 9:30 - go to Thrifty Rental counter. There are 18 people in front of me in line and ONE person working the counter - taking 15 minutes minimum with each person. Everyone in line is worried - seems to "know" the counter closes at 11PM - what will happen then? A second counter person comes out and everyone breathes a little easier, then the first counter person goes away - leave ONE counter person!!!! I waited 45 minutes and now there were 15 people in front of me (I have photos!) I called the number I was given to call for questions and imagine! They closed at 10PM - please call back tomorrow. At a few minutes before 11PM with still 13 or 14 people in line ahead of me - I went to the Alamo counter and rented a car and was driving out of the parking lot at 11:05. Worst experience ever. Never again and I caution everyone trying to get a Thrifty car late at night in SFO...Reviewed Nov 8 2023

Arrived on time (9:20 pm). Stood in line with 36 other customers (three people were working the counter) for over thirty minutes. When I got to the counter, I was told that my car wouldn't be ready for almost two hours . . . but for an additional $160 dollars (per day) they could give me another car. I had no option but to wait. Fortunately, it was only 45 minutes before they sent me down to get a Hertz car (still billed through Thrifty). All was fine except I ended up with a 7-passenger Ford Expedition when I wanted a sub-compact. The Ford got 18 mpg (so my gas cost was higher) and was a monster to navigate through San Francisco traffic.Reviewed Oct 4 2023

Cons:We waited over 2 hours for a reservation we had made a month before our trip. As an apology for waiting, the associate at the desk assured us we could return the car empty, but we were charged over $100 for gas upon return. On the way out of the lot after we finally were placed in a car, the parking lot attendant lowered the security gate on our car, and the replacement they gave us was an older model than we paid for, and very dirty and smelly.Reviewed May 27 2021

Pros:NothingCons:Everything - surly staff, long wait in line only to be told my car wouldn't be available for 1.5-2.0 hours. Ended up in a tiny compact car that killed my back. When I dropped off the staff member was swearing to himself and banging things around before he got to me. Terrible. I will never rent from Thrifty again.Reviewed May 25 2021
