Give yourself enough time. You can use remaining money on Suica Card at the airport.

Make sure you carry your own food if you are vegetarian

It’s true bring the minimum in clothing and extra luggage. The hotels even offer nightly pajamas and slippers (hilton). Most hotels have laundry access for customers. Also, the international terminal has very cheap souvenirs- seriously 1/2 the stuff I was searching for (magnets, tshirts, shopping bags, Kirby, hello kitty, gundam etc) was cheaper and all in the bottom floor ( before security). They’re even a decent gochapon store if you still have yen’s burning a hole in your pocket.
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-May 2026
If arriving at Haneda from another airport in Japan for an international flight, make sure you have enough time to get to the international terminal. It takes at least 15mins to get to with the airport shuttle. Airport shuttle is a little hard to find in the lower level of the airport.
Verified travelerFlew with ANA-Apr 2026
Give yourself enough time to get through customs. You can get many items at the airport but you will pay a bit more.
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-Mar 2026
For comfort you should buy a first class or a premium economy seat.
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-Jan 2026
Don't get to the gate too much earlier than you need to, it is very easy and fast to get from baggage drop off through security and to the gate.

Getting to Haneda is a nightmare. avoid the Keiku line, rather take the Monorail.

Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-Dec 2024
Get to the airport early because ground transportation to/from takes time and patience. Horribly crowded airport takes time to understand if one doesn’t understand Japanese language. Transfer time from previous flight was obviously not long enough and yet this was what booking service recommended
Verified travelerFlew with ANA-Nov 2024
Make sure to buy whatever you think you’ll buy at the airport at the store bc terminal 2 is fairly new so there aren’t as much stores and restaurants as the other terminals in Haneda .
VictorFlew with American Airlines-Oct 2024
Make sure to eat before you get on, as the food options aren’t the most appetizing.
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-Mar 2024
I have not flown other flights to Tokyo, so I have not much to add here. I did appreciate the option of a direct flight to your destination. Having to connect to another flight is at minimum a 2 hour add to your traveling time to an already long flight. Even though a connecting flight you have been more economical, the saved time will s worth the slightly extra cost to me.
RickFlew with United Airlines-May 2024
Haneda Airport was most convenient for me. My friend lives in Chiba so Haneda was closer to drop me off. There was a monorail if coming by train, so that came be convenient too. Check in was a breeze and also ANA accepts luggage forwarding service from our hotel which made it more convenient too!
PremsriFlew with Japan Airlines-Jan 2024
Get business class if U can! Download your own entertainment especially movies before hand. There are even less choices than the outbound! BTW, my outbound connection was horrendous. Fortunately Haneda airport is spacious and has lots of seats, couches.
KyleFlew with Delta-Jan 2024
Get to the airport early. Do not purchase basic economy tickets.

Very smooth onboarding and offboarding. Food provided was cold and not the best.

Service and the plane itself were terrific, but the extensive delays both before we left and after were a real pain.

The seats were narrower compare to other airlines traveling to Asia, which makes them uncomfortable after 6 hours The plane was worn, my tray table wasn’t level, You had to pay for WiFi and no Bluetooth option to use your own headphones. The crew was excellent in servicing the food and drinks. However I felt they needed some extra hands to serve the two sections of economy at the same time. They run out of one of the food option as they got to the rear section of the plane. Having travel on other Asian airlines during this trip; American Airlines can learn a bit from them, but I wonder if their service is geared towards a clientele that has become accustomed to not expect to much from an airline.

The crew was great, food was good. My concern is about the plane itself. It wasn't super clean, and during the landing process (after attendants had to take their seats) the air conditioning vent above my daughter's head started leaking a lot of water. It leaked for about 30 minutes, until we landed. I let the attendant know about the leak as we were getting off the plane, and she was very kind about saying she'd look into it. Given concerns about hygiene on planes, plus the fact that my daughter had to hold the blanket over her for 30 minutes to avoid getting soaked, that was not a great situation.

I am trying to select a seat during booking but it respond that set assigment will be given during check in, and the seat assignment they give is in the middle seat and 2 row from the rest rooms, i am the person who pee a lot in this case I disturb so much the person beside me ,this trip is from Haneda to Texas, the trip from Texas to Cvg is a much better because its a smaller plane few passenger

Boarding and crew service were excellent. Food was mediocre, not as good as our last trip four years ago.

My first issue is the lack of clarity with the airlines. I know that Japan airlines and American Airlines are partners, but I couldn’t figure out which airline I was flying with. I got the flight info for Japan airlines and ended up on American. After my Kayak booking (via Underpricer) I got a phone call to see if I wanted up choose a seat and pay for luggage fees. both American and Japan airlines offer 2 carryons and 2 regular luggage checked in at no additional fees to Tokyo. Having already done my research, I opted out on their “Offer” and just contacted the airline directly to pay for upgraded seats (Which were cheaper than the Underpricer deal) My top complaint was the flight delay from HND to LAX it wasn’t until I had already made my unchangable airport drop off car reservations , that I received 3 hour flight delay email. I was forced to be there 6 hours prior to the departure. They were kind enough to give us a limited restaurant food voucher- which was 1900 yen ( I saw Delta food vouchers were 2000 yen). My teen and I ate food court pizza. The flight arrived when expected, The food was mid on the flight. I slept and woke up about 1.5 hours to LAX. I had waffles ( which also contained 1 mushroom and 1 tomato in the same tray) and 3 small pieces of fruit. All went well, just remember to check on your 3rd party ticket companies. Some seem to be sneaky All in all it was a very long day, we made it back safe.

service was excellent. crew very polite, courteous, and good service especially to passengers like me who is a wheelchair passenger

First of all it’s an American Airline flight not JAL as advertised. Code share is deceiving. Seats are uncomfortable. Stewards in our section were not friendly, felt rude at times.

My son flew and had a great experience.. thank you for taking care of my baby

Choice of movies dated as with the screens. Major room for improvement on the software to sort and select choices.

As always, there is that one or two flight attendants that could be better.

I loved everything about my experience!!! The staff were absolutely incredible. I can not wait to fly again with them.

ANA split my family of 4 by seating us each separately which didn't seem to make much sense. Both ways we were not seated together and the glitch int he online check in system meant we could not change our seats or get boarding passes without seeing a person at the airport counnter. The staff however offered good service in the air.

The food was not great and the seats you need a little bit more space to put your things down around you: the blankets and toiletry bag were good. Flight was on time and bags etc no issues

The plane was very clean and the crew was very nice.

The lounge in Japan was busy and smaller. Have great choice of ramen.

I was good seat to keep stretch my legs . but couldn’t keep my bag in my hand . because they told me can’t keep my seat is no holder , because no seat fronts of us. wish I can put my leg on something higher. but instead of that everything goood.

Good airlines btu ORL airport messed up the return flight for me. Checking out a connecting flight pax is unacceptable.

I am a Diamond Medallion Delta traveller and this was a disappointing flight. They allowed half the flight to preboard before Delta One and Diamond Medallion. Once on the plane in my Delta Premium Select seat we were not given any welcome or greeting. Throughout the flight the flight attendant also did not make us feel any sort of special service or attention and even rushed us when she did bring us a snack to pick in the dark not even offering a light to look at what it was -- she was overall not helpful and not accommodating. for the extra cost of the seat it was honestly not a special experience this flight. heads up that even the warm cookies are now packaged. I ate nothing. There really was nothing that was special, stood out or exceptional. Luckily I mostly slept. But I was disappointed and question if I may try a different flight next time I go to Tokyo. The last few Delta flights have been less than great. which makes me very sad.

Crew helpful. Plenty of food although not great but ok. Good time.

This long-haul international flight was the most comfortable among any of the same kind of flight operated by an American-headquartered airline - second to none!

My requested wheelchair never appeared. So many entertainment choices yet, I found little of interest and no internet option to search on my own. Both were minor issues.

Delta is better for short flights and very low need for customer service. Avoid for longer flights

I notice that every time I fly delta or any American carrier, the staff seem tired, overworked, and not at the service level I’m accustomed to in Asia. They frequently crash into my arm when coming down the aisle. Food is shoved at my face with no greeting or verbal cue. The food portions seemed much smaller than usual and didn’t see much wine or beverage options. This is comfort plus? The plane was old and tired. The bathroom was dripping with mineral stains after a long lack of cleaning. The power socket did not work, although the USB output did. I really wonder why I’m flying Delta, I think it’s time to switch to ANA.

I was sitting at comfort +. One of the Asian male crew was so loud when he delivered service. When he asked questions or what food you need, he was shouting. He must be a prison guard before going Delta.

I was surprised to have such bad service since I feel Delta usually does a good job for long haul flights, but this experience was quite bad. Onboarding was chaotic, the flight was uncomfortable as the cabin temp swung from very cold to steaming hot, and the attendants were rude and inattentive.

Why, on an 11+ hour flight, is the food being served at a speed resembling a 90-minute flight? Flight crew practically threw our food at us, then cleaned it up before everyone was done. All, presumably, so that they could retreat away for the next 7 hours to be completely unavailable. No additional beverages were served for hours. Delta is supposed to be the premium American carrier, but on this flight, it made me wish I was flying someone else. Also, the “upgrade” to comfort+ is a joke. It was worse than Japan Airline’s lowest level economy class. Literally no comparison between these two airlines. I wouldn’t fly Delta from Tokyo again unless I absolutely had to. Very disappointing amenities and service!

delta lost my bag with $3k worth of stuff in it 😂😂😂😂

Flight was great. Almost miss my connecting flight due to late departure from Haneda. Had to run all through airport in Chicago to make the flight. Experience was great for 1st time flyers using ANA Airlines.

It was a great experience to fly with ANA, the sit is very comfortable.

The airline was fine, but I did want to share about Kayak's error through Underpricer. The original booking was purchased with ANA, and Kayak booked it with United. This is a mistake that should not be happening, since the price I paid was with ANA and that was my preference. I appreciate the efforts done to make this right by paying for the seat preference, but sitting in the back of the airplane under economy is not enough to make this error right. ANA Airlines was the experience I wanted considering this was a life time experience that my family and I wanted to have as part of our Japanese experience. Please work on your affiliation with Underpricer to make the right bookings that the customer pays for. In my situation, I could of paid less for a United ticket versus my original payment with ANA Airlines.

The crew was the worst ive ever had in my life flying with United Airlines, letting another person move my bag without asking and then the staff saying would the floor be better after I kept begging saying dont move my bag it has fragile things inside. This incident truly makes me they favor other customers more and I dont want to worry about being on the tail end. Especially if they dont listen any input, no care for what I asked but accommodated those who are reckless and disturb others more...

Referencing ANA'S service to Japan and the return on UA, the pillow was awful, the crew was not very attentive, and the food was bizarre and tasted okay. Whoever's idea it was to make vegetable tempera in a steam capsule should probably revisit that. Since it was the vegetarian option, it was my only choice.

Flew steerage class. Short on leg room unless you pay more. No window unless you pay more. Etc. United is trying to squeeze every cent from you. It doesn’t make for any loyalty.

I liked that it was on time, however, the food was not good.

They never clean the toilet, and the food is worse

Crew was great. 2 1/2 hour delay was due to staff needing "rest" was avoidable and self inflicted as United not willing to hire enough crew to keep flight on time.. Ridiculous. The crew and the passengers both suffered due to this.

Flight was delayed for 5 hours because crew didn’t have enough time to rest - this seems like it could have been avoided with better scheduling. Food was not good.

Old plane. Dirty. Not many things worked. Service was poor.

Service could be better especially in business class.. the food also needs to be better and the overall experience should be elevated.

The food was good. I almost didn't get a seat on the flight unless I agreed to sit in emergency exit.

we had flown from Okinawa and had breakfast in Okinawa. There were issues with the plane so service was postponed. I asked a crew member if we could get something to eat as I was very hungry. Shevwas so nice that shev brought nuts for all of us. The sad part is that thevnuts were stale but I was hungry so I ate them. My side of the rew was really very nice. Both my wife and I travel quite a bit even though we cannot lift our bags as we get help. My wife asked her dso=ide crew if she could help put up the computer bag. She told he that its not her job. Oh well

Very efficient boarding and quick flight. Attendants don’t come by often so would often have a lot of trash at seat.

Flight was on time. Cabin attendants made no recognition of my name or being an Advantage Executive Platinum member.

Very poor food. Took more than 90 minutes for baggage to arrive at DFW

Movie selections were very limited. Meals were not f So good.

AA is flying sub par aging 787's to Tokyo. I fly other 787's long haul and these are at the bottom. Seats don't work well, tray tables don't work well and were dirty. The flight was great, the plane was not.

The comfort of Business Class made this trip far more comfortable. I was indeed surprised when I asked one of the flight attendant to help me set up my "bed", she responded that "We don't make beds in Business Class any longer...only First Class" I believe her name was Giselle, but I'm not certain. She did instruct me how to adjust the seat, place the hooded cover and I clearly understood how to place the blanket and the cover. Additionally, the meal I was served (a beef dish) was almost inedible. The beef was tough and odd tasting. I didn't mention it as I was hoping to quickly settle down and try to get some sleep.
