Picking up the car was a nightmare. We specifically asked for a Chevy Suburban due to the amount of luggage and people we had. We needed Captains chairs in 2nd row and the larger trunk space. The counter agent refused to give us one, despite me being an Avis member and pointing out the available one on the lot. When we went outside we met Dan who works the lot outside. He was AMAZING! I pointed out that there was a Suburban that was perfect, he checked it and quickly changed our car to that Suburban. When we tried to leave the lot, the agent inside had assigned that car to another COUPLE (just after us) (not the 6 people we had). We couldn't leave, and found Dan who went inside to sort out the issue. The agent was planning to give them the Suburban because they had requested a black car. Our friend Dan reminded the agent the our car was not black but green. He finalised the paperwork again from inside and finally we were able to leave. Without Dan the trip would have been much more difficult due to the layout of the Expedition. What I didn't understand is why a couple would get priority over us simply because they requested a specific colour when we had 6 people and needed a specific type of car. Gave our expected car away to someone else and replaced it with a long-in-the-tooth sedan. No floor mats, scratches all over, stunk of air freshener. Not tragic but pickup staff could have been more organized & cordial dealing with the issue. Drop-off staff was great.Reviewed Apr 11 2023

Insanity at pickup. Ive never waited so long to pickup a rental car. Around 1.5-2 hours until we were in our car, and I was only like the 7th person in line. We arrived at midnight, so it was tough with our three little kids.Reviewed Jan 6 2023

I set up a car reservation that the Avis JFK location did not honor and it was an absolute nightmare. Between the time of the booking and pick up day I exchanged my out of state Iowa license for a New York one. The DMV gave me the standard temporary paper license. I took a picture of the seized Out-of-State license so that I could still have photo proof of my identity. The manager at the JFK Avis location would not accept either or let me add another driver to accept the rental car. We were also informed that even if my valid license was accepted that the suv I had reserved was not available and there would be an underterminable wait. The only option I was offered was cancelling my reservation and to have my second driver book a second reservation for the only available rental which was a pickup truck with no cover which would not fit all of my items I had to move out of state. I was forced to cancel my reservation and scrambled to find a last second rental with a competitor for a much smaller car at a higher rate. I was also forced to throw away several personal belongings because they would not fit in this smaller car and was set back 5 hours on my already 20 hour move. After going back and forth with customer service over the email and phone for a week I was able to get a hold of a supervisor who at least reimbursed the difference in car rates for the competitor. I was also reimbursed for the Uber trip there and the train ride to the competitor. Keep track of all your receipts and expenses is my recommendation and ask for a customer service supervisor over the phone immediately. Save yourself the stress and go with another company altogether if you can. New York has plenty.Reviewed Aug 19 2022

Straightforward booking process online. Easy to find the pick up point and we’re served instantly (it was a Friday morning and very quiet) Staff were friendly at collection and drop off. We too the offer of an upgrade and were very satisfied with our Chevrolets Equinox. Comfortable, easy to drive, good AC and I could link my phone to car play to use my phone map as Sat nav. My only negative is that we only noticed a few hours after leaving that the tank couldn’t have been full at pick up as it was supposed to be. Too late to complain though as we had no proof. Suggest costumers take a photo of the fuel gauge at pick up.Reviewed Aug 15 2022
