Be careful when renting from Budget in LA. These guys add a “fuel option” to your bill — they say it will not be charged unless you return it with the fuel tank empty. This is NOT TRUE. If you bring it back full, they will still charge you the $100+ for the fuel option unless you physically go to the office to dispute the charge. The guy at the counter even told me that this is a way the guys at the counter “try to make more money” — so be aware.Reviewed Sep 15 2025

Went to counter. Paid for a car, went to lot to spot where the cas should have Bennett’s and nothing, empty spot. Took attendant almost 2 hours to find me a car. They did not provide the vehicle I reserved. They didn't even provide a similar/upgraded vehicle. They gave me the rental 45 minutes late even though I was on time. I had to call their customer support to be reimbursed the difference I was owed. It took 2 hours of my life away and I caught them in several lies in the process, I will not do business with Budget Car rentals or their affiliates (Avis and Payless) in the foreseeable future.Reviewed Jul 19 2025

At the new LAX rental depot, we waited in line for 2 full hours. They had 25 kiosks/stations for registration, but only 6-7 agents working them. Then, our car (Buick Encore with 20K miles) completely shut down as we drove off the lot. No power or electricity. Never experienced this before… Had to get a tow and a replacement which took another hour. Staff were helpful and kind but clearly understaffed and overworked. Budget was great. There was a problem with the car they initially assigned, but they promptly reassigned us a different car. Drop off was super easy and so really appreciate that as the last time I rented from a different company (also through Kayak) the experience was horrible, especially drop off.
