They upgraded car because they didn't have what I reserved. But it took almost 2 hrs and they charged me for a second day saying I returned after scheduled pick up time. (24hrs rental) I was on time I just left facility later than in paper because of waiting for a vehicleReviewed Jun 1 2023

It took the budget shuttle about 30-40 minutes to come pick us up at the terminal. Other rental companies came every 5 minutes. When we got to the rental center they gave me a double booked car. This created multiple hassles as they couldn’t figure out which car they could actually give us. We finally got a Ford Escape that reeked of marijuana, and after 2 days smelled like rotten broccoli. We figured out there was a pot vape pen squirreled away with the spare tire from a previous renter. But not until the last day after frantically searching for the offending smell. Counter staff were a little snooty when we turned down their insurance coverage. Luckily, drop off was easy, because the pick up took more than an hour.Reviewed May 27 2023

Hello,

I am writing you because, unfortunately, I am feeling very unsatisfied as a customer. I’ve been faithfully renting my car at Budget for +5 years, but this time around my experience was not up to standard. For the first time around I decided to rent my car trough Kayak, which shouldn’t be an issue. I pre-paid for my booking upon arrival and everything should be fine. I pre-paid approximately $450 trough Kayak for the booking. Upon arrival to the LAX office and rental office - I am told I have to pay extra since I am an international traveler and therefor need to buy extra insurance. Which I know is not true, since I have done it several times before. I tried to explain the agent that I’ve never experienced doing that before, but he told me there is nothing he can do to change it. The agent is sweet talking me several times and is trying to pull away my focus, by asking me what I do for a living. I tell him I am a dancer, he looks me up on YouTube and tell his co-worker to come over and watch. As I try to gain focus and ask questions he keeps hurrying me and tells me there is a long line and that I need to please hurry and sign everywhere. He also add’s the fuelling-service without asking me. I end up paying for extra insurance, daily add-ons and the fuelling-service, having already pre-paid and booked before hand what I wanted as a part of my rental agreement trough KAYAK. I ended paying double the amount AGAIN, which I figured today, as I returned my car and received my final E-receipt. I didn’t have enough time to stand in line and file a complaint with the office upon return, since I had a flight to catch. I was told to file this complaint online. As a valued costumer trough many years, I am very unsatisfied with this service. I even went to another Budget office in Studio City, (where I usually rent my cars), and asked them this extra payment was necessary to drive around. Even they said I was properly manoeuvred into paying for extra insurance and add-ons and taken advantage of.
I sincerely hope someone can look further into this case. As I wrote earlier, I have been a faithfull customer at Budget for years. I would have hoped the company wouldn’t cheat it’s customers just because you are at the LAX location and were taken advantage of because you are an international traveller. I would hate to take my car rental’s elsewhere in the future, but hope for a solution to this case. Preferable something similar to better customer service and this was absolutely unacceptable.

My Kayak booking confirmation: US701406360 My Budget rental agreement number 642328691 Please let me know if I can be in any further assistance of any information you might need.

Sincerely,

Simon GlaeselReviewed May 23 2023

The kayak quote was around $400 and after waiting an hour and a half for pickup I ended up paying $750 once they added all the hidden fees. I feel scammed by Kayak and annoyed that the rental car business is so outdated we have to stand around for 1:30 of a holiday just to sign a form that could be done online.Reviewed May 3 2023
