Only real thing I liked was how close it was to the airport and there being a shuttle. Otherwise, the first challenge was the insurance up sale. I purchased insurance during booking but then still had to purchase more insurance upon arrival. The first car I rented had such a small engine we had to return it. Then the second SUV was quite dirty and we could not connect the phone to it and while figuring that out the battery died. So, on the spot they had to replace the battery. Grateful they did then but imagine if we had drove off into the 4 hours drive ahead of us without a new battery? Basically, super mediocre if not sub par service.Reviewed Jun 14 2023

Customer service was great. They didn't try to scam me with hidden fees or falsehoods about coverage. Another in my group rented through enterprise and they tried to make him pay all sorts of extras that aren't required (we rented in San Jose). I also had some car issues on the way back and they were helpful and understanding.Reviewed May 31 2023

I booked my car , I bought extra insurance as suggested and when I got there they told me the extra insurance $65000 worth didn’t cover third party damages and therefore required a $3000 damage deposit . Why was this only brought to my attention upon arrival ?! I’m in Costa Rica at 8 pm and stuck with no car . I plan to make a lot of noise on social media about this experience and I will recommend everyone not ever use budget in any country !!Reviewed May 6 2023

Felt sort of corralled into the upgrade I got. Booked a 7p 4x4 online and was told in person it was only 2WD. Was then told the Land Cruiser I got was the only one left on the lot. 3 hours later my brother in law got a Land Cruiser and was told it was the last one on the lot.Reviewed Apr 17 2023

Budget in Costa Rica, our flight was delayed so we called the 1800 number where an automated message told us that 'if your flight is delayed, not to worry they have the flight info and will hold on to your car, even if they don't have the flight number we hold your vehicle for 24hrs' So that was a relief until we got to the Budget booth in the airport where they told us they didn't have our car and that we should have let them know. I told them we called and heard the message and they responded with 'oh you didn't call the Costa Rica line' They ended up having a car we could use but it was a larger more expensive SUV and needed 'a better insurance package' so we had to pay more than we 'budgeted' for. Use another car rental place in Costa Rica there's lots to choose from.Reviewed Mar 5 2023

Horrible! Do not rent from here. I rented a large suv for my family and my elderly parents to ride comfortable 2 months in advance. I checked in on the car and reservation 2 days before travel. The day of immigration was long and flight delay occurred. I called the rental place and told them i would be coming in at 2pm. They said ok. I showed up and no car. They gave it away. Than 4 other families come to get their car and no cars either. You can't be more than 5 minutes late for your reservation or they give it away. I called ahead and made sure it was ok and my reservation was still given away. No cars were available in the airport. Worst experience being stuck in a country with 2 kids and 2 elderly parents and no car and all car rentals didn't have any either. I had to wait 3 hrs after many phone calls and help from my wheel chair person to get a car. Save yourself a headache and rent from another company.Reviewed Aug 10 2021
