Pros: Got a fantastic price for this rental! Pick-up and drop-off was quick and easy. Car was spotless when received.

Overall a terrible experience
Pros: The employee who helped us with pick up was extremely friendly and efficient
Cons: The car absolutely stank of cigarette smoke and there were cigarette ashes all over the car! It had clearly not been cleaned. The car was given to us with half a tank of gas and zero windshield washer fluid. We had to buy an air freshener for the car and keep the windows down for most of the two weeks. When we went to return the car on Saturday evening as we had an early flight Sunday, the key drop box was broken and wouldn't open! There was absolutely no number that anyone would answer after attempting to call several times and numbers. Finally, I hoped they had a spare key and simply locked the key in the car, feeling incredibly anxious the entire time. Overall it was just an extremely poor experience.

Process Ok, car not so much
Pros: Easy to pick up and return
Cons: Car smelled like leftover cigarette smoke. Brakes squealed terribly. The additional fees were exorbitant.

CAR RENTAL FROM HELL. I'll NEVER, EVER use Kayak to rent a car AGAIN.
Pros: Once I had the car, it was the usual rental. Car was fine, worked, clean, etc.
Cons: BE CAREFUL. Was expecting an airport pickup. Actually an off-site rental. Bait and Switch. $20 cab ride to get car. Although return time was known at time of pickup, was told I had to return the car to the same location, EVEN THOUGH the office would be closed at the time. Wasted several hours on the phone trying to find out how to return the car. Ended up bringing it to the airport, with an extra charge tacked on. Between the cab and up charge for the return, paid and EXTRA $60 on a PREPAID rental. And to add insult to injury, the car had no gas when I picked it up. Waste hours in picking up and returning the car.

Friendly and Helpful
Pros: Alex picked us up and gave us a ride to Hertz to rent the car. He was so friendly and helpful! The car itself was excellent as well.

Mix up between Kyak and Hertz caused confusion with Car Rental locat
Pros: Great price
Cons: Kayak confirned airport pickup, but Hertz reservation showed a remote site. We had to pay Uber to drive us back and forth. ALso our car was not ready. Pickup time with Kayak was 12am. Hertx was 12pm. So our car was down graded.

Rental pickup site closed
Cons: Arranged rental pickup from away from airport site in Portland, ME. On arrival at Hertz agency it was closed! No one told us the agency closed at noon on Saturdays. Our plane landed at 1210. Had to Uber back to airport. Airport Hertz couldn't help us. Ended up renting from Budget.

Pros: The fact that I left on 4 wheels was a highlight.
Cons: My pick up experience was very poor. I arrived to be told that I did not have a reservation(which I did) and then was sent away from the desk. I pulled up the reservation and got back in line only to be told that the price had changed. I argued and showed my paperwork and was able to essentially get what I had PREPAID for, but the treatment was as though I was stupid and incapable of possibly knowing what I was talking about. Two thumbs down.

Cons: The pick-up location ended up not being at the airport. I had to uber from the airport to the "local" location. This was not upfront during my reservation.

Pretty good, but please let my spouse also drive!
Pros: Pretty smooth overall. Nice car, too, for the price.
Cons: I didn't like that Hertz requires you to be part of their free membership to let a spouse become a driver for free. We were using Hertz for the first time and no mention was made of how we could sign up for the membership plan now so that my spouse could also drive the car for no extra charge. This should be offered regardless of membership. Please change your policy, Hertz.

Cons: I reserved the car online with my credit card, but had planned on my spouse driving. Was told when I got there that the drive had to match the credit card used.

One way ME to TN - 3 Breakdowns...3 Cars later
Pros: The Portland Location was professional and fast.
Cons: The car brokedown near Washington DC. Hertz DC location for exchange was the worse experience ive encountered. The customer service was terrible, beyond terrible. Rude. (for further info on this, please email me direct if this even matters). The exchange we were then given had expired tags. Finally got on the road. Cost and Time spent. The Van then brokdown in Knoxville. This terminal was much better and got us moving along. But again more, cost and time spent. Over all worse rental of my career thus far.

Pros: Ease of pick up and delivery. Friendly service at the counter
Cons: Hyundai Elantra was one of the most uncomfortable seats I have ever been in.

Do not waste your time or money with this company
Pros: There was nothing to like!
Cons: Upon arriving at rental counter Hertz personal were rude and then demanded to see a return flight ticket. They refused to rent their cars without seeing an airline ticket for return flight even though the rental fee had been charged to my card. Then to add insult to injury, Hertz only returned or credit my card for $14.00 out $114.00 charge on my card; so now paid $100.00 for car that they refused to rent. Bunch of crooks or just a whole lot of incompetency. Stay clear of Hertz car rental company, Enterprise Car Rental treats all its customer with respect and worth paying the extra $10.00 per day rental fee.

Pros: The agent and her support were very responsive and helpful. I had an issue with the seats in the minivan and efforts were immediately made to find a model more suitable to my needs.
Cons: The lower rating for pickup and drop off was the result of having to wait for pickup due to understaffing at the desk at time of pickup. I also would have liked a box for dropping off keys, at the time of my return, so that I could have left immediately.

Pros: Had problems. Agent not very friendly. Couldn't give us directions. Gave us a little compact car instead of intermediate. We spent extra time complaining but then they exchanged car.
Cons: Car we finally got was right size which we should have been given to begin with.

I was charged extra above quote on my confirmation
Pros: Car was fine. No problems.
Cons: I was charged above the quoted price that was on my confirmation. The rep told me that this was airport taxes. Apparently, the booking was made for an off-site location rather than the airport, even though I was flying into the airport. I would not get a rental from this site again because of that. They should honor the quoted price.

Pick up location was closed after pick up time
Cons: They never should have allowed the reservation to be made. I requested a 6pm pick-up time and the location closes at 6pm! I had to get a car at another location and go through the hassel of getting a refund on the first car. Not fun!

Pros: I liked how close to terminal Hertz is, easy to pick up and drop off. Car was clean.
Cons: The car needed a tune up. Tried to exchange it twice but other locations were very remote and didnt have cars to give to me

Always Quick and Courteous
Pros: I always prefer to use Hertz because they aren't aggressive with trying to upsell and the pickup process is quick and painless. Also, at the destination airport, one of their employees gave us curbside service to the airport after drop-off since we had a toddler and car seat with us.
Cons: There's nothing about my rental experience that was unpleasant.

Good human customer service, bad robots
Pros: The people I dealt with in Portland and Philadelphia were very nice and professional and helpful. Got done what I needed done efficiently and without big issues.
Cons: The customer service hotline over the phone was a terrible 1984 / Brazil - esque "voice-mail hell" scenario. I was put into a Robot Loop of Uselessness that I could not escape from.

Pros: The car was great but they would not let my spouse drive for free. I asked several questions about this and they told me that wasn't available in Maine. The next day we realized it was a benefit of our AAA insurance and called to have him added as a driver. The agent told us we could not do tha without opening our contract, which would mean we would need to pay the current price for the car rental. Not good customer service, especially when the contract stated we had AAA insurance.

Experience thus far . . .
Pros: Drop off was very easy and attendant was efficient and friendly.
Cons: Pick up took way too long. Close to 1/2 hour!! Needed assistance from a 2 attendant before we could move things along. Second attendant was courteous but not necessarily friendly. EZ pass option is great idea but it would be helpful to know what if any charges other then tolls are associated with its use.

Jeep Pioneer Needed Maintenance
Cons: We rented a Jeep Pioneer that had a loud squeak and grinding noise in its rear suspension. Clearly the vehicle needed maintenance.
