Pros: Late model car provided. Quick check-out, check-in.
Cons: Surprised by non-airport location. Long wait for pickup vehicle. Off-airport location with 5:00 pm closing time weekdays. Car needed exterior wash.

Heads up for Midway, you need to take 2 different shuttles to rental
Pros: The price was affordable...staff was pleasant. Car was clean.
Cons: They don't tell you that you have to take a second shuttle from the first shuttle at Midway. The pick up office is so tiny, my luggage had to be brought in each piece at a time, since it wouldn't fit through the doorway. Only 2 people could wait in the office, it was so small. The parking lot does not have a drive to drop off car, so you just park it anywhere. No one tells you to write down your own mileage and bring it to the desk.

Pros: Clean well maintained and comfortable. Drove to NYC and back to Chicago for a wedding and was very happy.
Cons: Drop off was a bit long but not due yo employees but very rude customer. Handled well by person checking us in.

You get what you pay for?
Pros: Chevy Malibu was nice driving car. Price was great.
Cons: Got to rental office. Place packed, except no one from Payless around. Very disorganized. Long wait. Finally got car -- not the cleanest but we just wanted to go by then. Realized the odor we smelled was smoke. Yuk. Next day we found French fry holders, a plastic cup and food wrappers under passenger seat. Washed rear window while getting gas only to discover the grime was on the inside. Also, no mention of GPS, toll tag, extras, etc while checking out car. Would have been nice to know about some of that stuff, especially due to toll roads around Chicago. The drop off wasn't much better than pick up. One agent, packed small office. All in all you are getting what you pay for. Decent car, bare bones customer service. Be prepared to be underwhelmed.

A dirty car with a bad tire
Pros: First car was very dirty, and while I was driving the front left tire blew out. When I traded it for another car, the service rep. told me it had had a slow leak prior. They should NOT have given it to me! The replacement car was newer, cleaner, and nicer. But the hassle (and potential danger) was upsetting.
Cons: I think I already explained, above. I will give credit to the very helpful representative at the O'hare location, who helped me replace the bad car from the Midway location.

To pick it up...I waited at the counter before I was even acknowledged
Pros: Overall I was happy...but of coarse when I arrived I stood at the counter a while before anyone said anything... I made sure that the associates knew that I was there and still was ignored...

Pros: The car was clean and because I handled the arrangements online, it was a hassle-free process.
Cons: The computers were down and so I had to go to 55th street and conclude my transaction with the parent company. It would have been nice to receive a heads up, as 55th street is a good distance from 47th street. I do, also, wonder why the taxes and fees inflate the cost of rental, to twice the price that was quoted!

Cons: The office was CLOSED at 5:00 when I asked for a 5:00 pickup...... terrible communication and NO coordination at the airport......the shuttle bus had NO information on this agent and said just go to Avis...."they'll take care of you. When I approached the Avis counter, they informed me that this outfit had many problems...I had to purchase a walk-up rental from Avis......terrible experience

Cons: Size too small for 2 men over 6ft tall and over 170lbs. Each. Tight fit.

No cars available. Not actually located at Midway
Cons: Despite making the reservation, I showed up and they didn't have any cars available. They told me I could either wait (indefinitely?) for a car to become available or I could rent with a different company. What was the point of making the reservation in the first place?! I had to rent with Alamo instead, and the last minute rental cost nearly double what my Payless rental was supposed to cost. To top it all off, despite being listed as a Midway airport pickup, the Payless location is NOT in the Midway rental area. After taking a shuttle to the Midway rental area, you have to call Payless to schedule a SECOND shuttle pickup from that location. None of this is marked, mind you. I walked up and down all the counters several times thinking I had just missed the Payless desk. Finally I asked someone at the Budget desk and they informed me of the second shuttle and gave me the number to call. None of this is convenient and it's even worse when you trek all the way to their location and they tell you you're S.O.L. Needless to say, I'm not renting from Payless again.

Pros: I have a reservation at 5pm, but no one told me they closed at 5pm. Also, at Midway Airport, they are not located where other rental agencies are. It requires 2 shuttle buses to get there.

Good price but watch their open hours.
Pros: People were friendly and nice. Close to freeway at Midway airport
Cons: The Midway location opens at 7 so if you have an early flight watch their hours. You could end up missing your flight. And they are not at the main car rental building which isn't a big deal but could be a factor.

Cons: The quote I received online was for $160 but when I got to Chicago and went to pick up the car, the estimate I had to sign was $288. How was the site so far off? At that point I had to get the car because I had already landed, I had my 7 year old daughter with me and 4 suitcases that I couldn't manage by myself on the train. I WILL NEVER BOOK A CAR ON KAYAK AGAIN.

Pros: Direct drop off to Midway terminal when car was returned.
Cons: Had difficult time locating rental location. Suggest having direction attached to rental agreement.

Pros: Inexpensive staff at MDW was nice. Staff at ORD was okay. Good value for money
Cons: it was complicated to get to Payless at MDW. There were no instructions in the confirmation email except to say it was off airport. Poor signage on where to catch the bus. I wasted a lot of time and was aggravated by the lack of direction.

Bait and switch price!
Pros: The car was clean
Cons: First they tell me the deposit if I were to use my debit card (instead of a credit card) is $125. But when I got to the place, they said, "oh no, it's $350"! At drop off they tried to overcharge me by $20, and tell me that the price I was quoted in my confirmation email was just an "estimate", when the email clearly stated it was my rate+taxes and fees. While I was settling the bill the shuttle driver announced he couldn't wait for me to take me to the airport. So I had to wait for him to come back. I almost missed my flight. I will not be using them again. Not worth the pennies you "save".

Nice car, less than desirable agency
Pros: I like the car was a bit bigger than what I expected I expected a compact car but picked up a nissan sentra. That and the price compared to others at the time are the only thing I liked.
Cons: Customer service was mediocre. They lied about shuttle arrival times and after not picking up the phone for a good 40 minutes. It's a huge inconvenience for an out of town traveler on a schedule. The car still had hair left in it which leads me to believe they didn't clean it well. And their hours are inconvenient as well, the airport has flights leaving as early as 5am and getting in as late as midnight. If you need to pick up / drop off before 730 or after 5 (I think) you're out of luck. Try another rental place, the extra 20 is worth the hassle.

Pros: The price was the best in the area.
Cons: The rental office was NOT at the terminal as indicated on-line. When informed by airport staff that all car rentals were at the car rental facility off airport, I took the shuttle there only to find that Payless was not there either. Another phone call and a 15 min wait outside later, a van showed up to take me to the Payless lot. My rental car was clean and the handoff went fine. They told me to return the car to this lot and they would take me to the airport directly. I had an early morning flight so arrived at the Payless office at 6:00am only to find that the office was closed and would not open 'till 7:00am! No one told me that cars could only be dropped off within certain hours. Furious!!!

Cons: On top of the advertised prices we had to pay a total of 40% taxes, this made the rental the same price as the big rental companies. The staff were nice but personally I would not use payless again. Should be called Paymore!

Must take two shuttles from Midwa
Cons: Kayak says Payless is in the "airport terminal", while others like Budget and Alamo are "shuttle." Wrong! You have to take the rental car shuttle, but then you need to take *another* shuttle from there to get to PayLess. We waited 20 minutes for the second shuttle while plenty of regular shuttles came and went. When I got off the second shuttle there was only one person at the desk. Fortunately I was second in line. The last person in line must have waited a long time to get their car. Returning is confusing because the entrance is not on the street of the address and due to a one-way street you have to go around the block to get in. Next time I'm going with one of the companies located in the rental car complex.

Cons: The website was not clear that everything was off site. There was no answer or voice mail on their contact line. I would not work with them again.

Never found the place
Cons: This felt like a bait and switch. We showed up at 5:00pm on a Tuesday to Midway airport. I didn't see the Payless logo on the rental shuttle so I asked a security guard and a bus driver where Payless was located. They both told me that ALL rental cars are found in the same place at Midway. My family got on the on this bus and the confusion continued. An hour later we ended up just renting a car from another company right there on the spot. Payless was in a different location, and more important, it was already closed for the night!!! No email, no phone call, no indication that Payless operates in a different location and on different hours than every other rental car option at Midway. Payless needs to find a way to communicate better with its customers

NOT in terminal
Pros: Counter staff were very friendly and courteous.
Cons: When I booked this reservation, I was mislead into thinking that Payless was located in the terminal at Chicago Midway. Not only was it not in the terminal, it wasn't even located in the rental car building where all the other agency are. I had to take the shuttle from the terminal to the car rental facility. Then I had to wait for a Payless bus to pick me up and take me to the Payless facility, located in a residential area a few miles away. If I had known this at the time I booked my car, it probably would not have been that big of a deal. However, since my reservation stated pickup was located "In Terminal", this experience was quite aggravating.

Cons: The web site said they were on site at Midway, they are not, you have to take 2 buses to get to the rental location. I was charged $25 for an additional 4 hours for my rental. I rent cars often and am not interested in using them EVER.

Older car, but great value
Pros: Good price, shuttle right to the airport on return
Cons: Their rental lot is NOT part of the main rental car facility, so separate pickup call is needed. Limited hours for pickup and return. Older car with some mileage.

Don't rent from Midway airport
Cons: It was a terrible experience renting from this location. I was told that the Payless site was at the airport. It was not and I had to take 2 shuttles to get there. The actual office was a distance from the airport and was old and outdated. In addition the Payless specific shuttle was dirty and the driver was highly inconsiderate and played loud music during the drive. Also, I was not informed, nor was there a sign in the office telling me that a hold would be placed on my debit card until the car was returned. Overall a very disappointing experience.
