Pros: The price was right and the location was convenient.
Cons: The rental facility and customer service were horrendous. I had to wait an hour at the facility. Only one person was working and he spent 45 minutes with a man who could not get approved for a car. He was the only person working and was out to lunch when I arrived for pick up and so I had already waited for an hour. He gave me a car with three dings on it and the dings were prominently marked by 3 white X's and said I could not remove the X's. When I asked for a different car, his response was "I already gave you an upgrade, do you just want to cancel the rental?" I needed a car right then so I took it. As it turned out, the interior of the car and the trunk were filthy.

Cons: The car needs a tune-up and an alignment. It was loud and pulls to the right.

Horrible customer service
Pros: The manager fixed things, but too little, too late.
Cons: Horrible, rude, disrespectful customer service; no cars available despite reservation and waiting 45 minutes in line.

Worst rental experience of my life
Pros: Honestly, nothing.
Cons: I went in to pick up my car and they not only didn't have one, but also couldn't offer me any car at all. I called in to ask about other options after leaving and they immediately processed a refund for me without my permission. The refund didn't come for over a week, and so Hertz basically withheld my money for no reason other than their own incompetence.

Cons: I arrived at the pick up location and there was no one there. I had reserved the car, but ended up having no car over there. Had to spend more money on a cab to get me to a different location that managed to have a car for me. Overall, the car I reserved for pick up at 1pm, I wasn't able to get to until 3pm - leaving me EXTREMELY late for a wedding I was going to (I missed the ceremony). It was a terrible experience.

Pros: Very clean car. I loved how you had the EZPass for tolls in Indiana and Illinois. Also, professional and helpful staff.

THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CAR FOR ME
Cons: When I showed up there were 3 other people in line. They had no cars left and tried to rent me one with a doughnut on it! Do not rent from here my weekend plans we're ruined because of them.

One way rental
Pros: car was good condition (38k miles) no damage etc, had Bluetooth and Cruise control etc
Cons: car wasn't ready for pickup, was clean inside but wasn't washed and queued to pick up the car even though we were on time to pickup as only two staff and one of them was the guy running out the back washing cars etc......you know you have cars going out in the morning....have them ready to go instead of making customers wait 20 mins (we asked him not to bother washing ours as didn't want to wait another 10 mins after we watched him wash the two customer cars ahead of us). The placement of the Hertz navigator we didn't even use sucks as well, right in the position of the passengers knee.

Pros: The car was great! Clean, comfy and new.
Cons: The rental shop was slow... Only one person working there seemed to know what was going on and everyone else was, seemingly, trying to figure it out or waiting to ask a question.

Hertz was fine, confusion about rental location
Pros: The car, service, etc was all pleasant. My only problem with this experience was I was unaware that my reservation was for a location outside of the airport. I don't know whether I inadvertently entered 'Chicago' as the search location instead of 'Chicago OHare', or if this off airport location was offered along with airport results and I didn't catch it. Either way, when I got the hertz at the airport I didn't have a reservation. I wasn't going to take a cab across town from the airport, so I was able to get a car at the airport location, but at a much higher rate than the one I had reserved. Having clearly marked airport/nonairport in reservation process might have saved me a bit of a headache.

Reserved car weeks ahead. Had to wait an hour
Pros: Hertz was the cheapest for one-way rental. Quality car in a new, loaded Camry with four-cylinder motor for over 30 MPG
Cons: Reserved car weeks ahead and it wasn't ready for an hour of waiting. Car had been smoked in and renter used door pull for an ashtray.

Terrible service, dirty car
Pros: Exchanging the original car was an ease, and the staff at the location where the exchange was completed (O'Hare location) was helpful and nice.
Cons: The West Belmont location was incredibly unprofessional. I had to be shuttled to another location twenty minutes away by a very young worker who drove recklessly. The other location was no more than a car repair shop. The worker had me wait in the shuttle van while he got ready. When I finally got the car, it was unbelievably dirty. There were plastic forks on the seats, food scraps on the floorboards, candy wrappers in the middle console, and pet hair all over the interior of the car. When I called customer service I was directed to take the car to the O'Hare location for an exchange.

Cons: I knew the location was off the airport... got on the Hertz bus to go to the off airport site for the rental......they tell us its the wrong location.....WHAT!!!! This should be more explanatory for the consumer. They at first told us we would have to take a taxi to the other location...OR ...take the shuttle back to the airport and get a taxi from there ! Are you kidding me!!!! Finally ...she said she could provide the rental for us ...but she would do us a favor and give us the same rate. I am a business owner... I don't have time for all of the up-sale and non-sense!!! I probably wont use Hertz again....I am in Chicago several times a year....there are plenty of other car companies out there... WE stood and listened to all of the up-sale to customer after customer....not a shining business practice.

The price changed dramatically upon pickup from 21
Pros: The car was fine, 2016 nissan, small.
Cons: The price on the booking that I had from KAYAK was 210 dollars for the period of rental and was supposed to include taxes. Upon arrival I get surprised that HERTZ asked for more money! I understand that if you ask for GPS you have to pay more, but not more than double the original price. And extra taxes were included from the original booking. Finally, I ended paying 495 with lower insurance compared to 210 as original booking

Awful Customer Service
Pros: Got a free upgrade, even though the rep at the counter didn't want to. They didn't have any other cars.
Cons: Absolutely awful customer service. Been the same story every time I've rented with Hertz. I'll spare you the details, but know you're better off paying the extra money to rent from Enterprise, who I've found to have excellent customer service every time.

Pros: Only thing that they did for us was drove us to Midway Airport' which we appreciated. I can't understand how when our reservations were already confirmed, that a car was not available. They were not helpful at all to try to get another car for us. Just very upsetting that we couldn't get the same price when we got a car from the airport.
Cons: We rode the taxi to get our rental which costed almost $50 and when we got to the place there was no car available for us. We were told that it may be several hours before a car is available, we didn't have much time to wait around. So we had to go to Midway Airport to get another car, we were lucky to get a car but it was double the price. Very disappointed.

Cons: When I went to pick up the car, the office was closed even tho I talked to the representative just a few minutes before closing and he did not say anything about closing. I was trying to find them and was not familiar with the city i was in. Ended up losing the money I paid for that reservation and had to make another one. The quote was $170 and ended up paying over $270 as a final charge. Not happy about that.

Nissan Rouge via Hertz - Nice Car But No A/C and T
Pros: Car was clean and ran well except the air conditioning didn't work. Good price for this size vehicle.
Cons: Arrived to find no one at the Hertz counter at 3130 N Sheffield. Waited a little more than 30 minutes before a Hertz employee arrived (this was at 10 AM on a Friday). The employee was efficient when he arrived, but by then we were running very late.

Cons: I had reserved through hotwire for $25.99/day full size for 5 days. In their defense I did arrive a little earlier than my reservation time so they said the full-size was not available and they would give me a mid-size. I asked would the price be the same as quoted and he said yes. When I dropped off the car, my end charge was for $45/day almost double the price. And they did not provide shuttle to the airport. I called the main line and they did adjust teh price back to my original quote but blamed me because I arrived early. If I would have know I would have waited the 45 minutes to pick-up at my scheduled time.

Chicago Midway Airport Hertz
Cons: Upon arrival in Chicago Midway Airport we clocked in at 1:28. We rented from 1pm two days before to 1 pm. On the drive in, I even called customer service to make sure that we had a half hour window before being charged an extra day of $62 plus. When our car was scanned in by a lady with an iPad at 1:28pm, I didn't see a problem until the girl at the counter said we would be charged another full day. If it says 30 minutes, it needs to be 30 minutes. We asked to talk to a manager, she went to get one, and the same woman came out only to tell us that we would still owe another day charge. So we asked again to speak to the manager who wouldn't come out. She was extremely short with me, I explained that I had just made the drive from New Orleans to Chicago to save money on flights, so $62 is a lot of money to me. Especially since I drove like hell to get there in time. Which I did. She told me she could do nothing about it as she didn't make the reservation. I pleaded with her and said it made no sense as it says we arrived at 1:28. Out of nowhere, she begrudgingly took off the charge after having told us she had no way of doing so, clearly meaning that was a lie in the first place. My complaint is how this was handled. And WHY it was handled like this! The manager had a sh*tty look on her face and we were treated like we were trying to get out of paying or something when we were IN the window of time. Very agitating experience and rude, I'm in customer service and would never talk to someone like that, lie to them or try and swindle another days charge for no reason.

Cons: I tried to rent a car in Mexico from not just Hertz but other companies and the bottom line was that it was cheaper to buy a car there than to rent one. They all have great daily rates just that they all get you with insurance at a rate of about 500.0 and deposits of up to 2000.00 which is crazy! So travelers beware!

Terrible service all around I
Cons: I reserved a full size and they have me a compact eventhough I told them I had to drive 6 hours in the snow. I then had to switch it out in St. Louis because they're car was worthless. To do this, I had to drive an hour out of my way.

Cons: location I reserved car, did not have Full size car, so they drove me to different Hertz location. I reserved two child seats, and they did not have it at my check in location. Actually before they drove me to different location, we stopped in garage and they showed me what they have and told me to pick two from what was there. They had only one toddler seat and others were infant or buster seat, they said no location in downtown have it, and I can go to airport to get it since they have better selection. REALLY!!! I made reservation two days before my pickup day/time, and expected to have full size car with two toddler ready for me to pickup and not to spend two hours at check in location then drive around to different location, then drive around to find toddler seats. When I was dropped to different location, they did not have full size car that was checked at original location, they had to gave me different one and I verified in their garage, so luckily they had another toddler seat there. This is telling me that customer rep at my original check in location, did not even check for me, but instead sent me to airport to look for toddler seat. Bottom line is, It took me two hours to get car and additional equipment I reserved two days in advance. Plus customer reps did not really try hard to accommodate my reservation, but just keep sending me to other locations.

Pros: The car travelled well, was clean, and was easy to pick up and drop off.
Cons: I was first charged for a full tank and then discovered on the road that the tank was not even half full. The error was corrected with a phone call and I was able to return the car empty. There was no ice scraper, so I had to purchase one as it was snowy. I was given a credit for the missing ice scraper.

Pros: I had to interrupt another customer's conversation while they were attempting to rent a vehicle in order to get the staff members' attention. They were very nice, though, and got my return sorted very quickly.

Hertz did not honor their reservation with me and
Pros: The ease of the reservation was good.
Cons: I can't wait to have my attorney look over this incident! After making and getting a confirmed reservation, changing my travel plans based on this reservation, HERTZ stranded me on Christmas eve morning at 0230 am... They refused to rent me a vehicle and stated that they do not do 1 way rentals on christmas. After showing the counter person my reservation, they again refused to rent me a car. I then went to their website and tried to make another reservation and they were still showing cars available. I was told, regardless of what the website said, they would not rent me a car. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I work in customer service and I would never do that to someone on Christmas... If their cars were truly not available, they should have blocked them out like all of the other rental companies. Had they done that, I never would have changed my reservation and flown to a city that I didn't really need to be in. I will be looking for reimbursement for all of my travel expenses (even though they were minor) so as to not allow any one to set a precedence for this type of service, operation, treatment and overall business practice. This is false advertising, and is tantamount to a breech of contract. Not only do I deserve answers, but I deserve an apology. I hope that this review is passed around and this company is put on notice!

Half tank of gas?
Pros: Proximity to pick up location and that it wasn't at an airport. Availability on relatively short notice.
Cons: It only had half a tank of gas when I picked it up. I've rent cars regularly and this is the first time that this has ever happened. It did cause some odd inconveniences that I didn't anticipate. For as much as I had to pay for this short notice rental while dropping it off at a different location, it could at least have had a full tank of gas.

Pros: We loved the car it was perfect for our purpose.
Cons: When we arrived to pick up the car the gentleman at the counter was very pushy about the car we had rented as the smallest and worst car in the lot and that it was a managers special, and we should upgrade. We told no thank you several times, and finally had to say just give me the papers to sign please as we very tired arriving for reason of a family members death. Additionally I did not like the fact that I still have not received a final statement in my e-mail as they were not open when we dropped the car off. If you are going to offer a rental service at the airport, please make sure you have the staff to complete the transactions. Not comfortable with the "unknown"
