Cons: Before hitting Rockford/Chicago, I was on backroads that didn't go more than 55 mph. Once I hit the freeway, the car I was in would not accelerate properly and soon wouldn't go beyond 35 mph. I only had the car for 3 hours (to drive to O'Hare) and it was terrible and expensive experience.

Pros: They were very pleasant. Car was very clean and ran well.
Cons: Not enough staff at the desk to handle the number of customers.

AVIS is Running a Scam w/ Fuel Option
Cons: The AVIS rental counter associate would not allow me to remove the fuel option when renting the car. When I returned with the car full of fuel, I had to go to the rental counter again to remove the fuel charge. This is essentially a scam, because AVIS knows that a certain percentage of customer are going to be pressed for time to catch their airplane and won't go to the rental counter to remove the fuel charge. So even though a customer fill the tank of gas upon returning the vehicle, AVIS will still charge them as if they returned the car empty.

Charged extra without notification
Pros: The car was nice.
Cons: I was charged an extra $20 without any notification and without recourse.

Pros: Proved to be perfect on a rainy day and a better alternative to riding the Blue line or taking an Uber/Lyft on our last day in Chicago.

Cons: Drop off location was wrong on my paperwork from avis. After driving around looking for a place that didn't exist I called avis and directed me to drop the car at another location, and then bring keys to another location. Was going to be late after this as we had to walk to the key drop off. Asked them to wait as we'd be 10 minutes late. They said no problem. No one there to accept keys. Called the national number and was told I have to now walk back to the car and take it to another location. Couldn't do that, already late for a flight. Avis pretty much said tough luck. I asked if I could lock the keys in the glove box because I had to get going. Avis said no and that I would be charged additional fees. Whatever. It's just money, but avis customer service is an abomination.

Slammed with fees
Cons: Our return flight from Chicago to Atlanta was changed due to Hurricane Irma. We needed to keep the rental car for an additional 12 hours beyond our original reservation. AVIS doubled our rate for the entire rental period. This was terrible price gouging that is not acceptable. I will never rent from them again!

Cons: It took some time to get the actual car once I was checked in. Luckily there was an attendant that went and got it for me after waiting about 15 minutes.

Pros: the staff - very friendly and efficient. The car: excellent and clean.
Cons: the location deep within the train station was hard to find, and it was a very long walk to get the car.

Easy - enter location
Pros: I was glad that I could drive the car right in. The agent was knowledgeable and helpful about local matters. And I received the handout on e-toll fees there finally.
Cons: The location was a long distance from my home, and I would have chosen a different one had that seemed possible when I arranged the rental.

Clueless Chicago agent; upset Toronto agent
Cons: We were not provided with a damage inspection slip and told we didn't need on. Fortunately, we took photos of existing damage to the vehicle. When we turned in the car, the Toronto agent argued the damage was done by us since the photos were dated one hour after the pickup time stamp. We convinced her otherwise. However, the Chicago agent, who was supposed to extend our rental by one day, neglected to do that and so our rental reflected as "late."

Pros: When I finally received my rental, the vehicle drove well and was clean and comfortable.
Cons: I had called Avis more than 6 times the day of my schedules rental with questions. I was never able to reach a person and no one called me back regarding the messages I left. My rental was reserved and to be paid for by my boyfriend, who's credit card was on file, and I had the card with me. Avis would not accept it because the card was not in my name, or matching my ID. They would not let me pay with my debit card either. I was then stranded at the Ohare Avis rental location and was told they would not even be able to help transport me back to my car, so I would have a 30 minute + transfer to get back to parking. The employee offered no assistance or other options allowing me to pay for my rental.

Pros: Everything was done online.
Cons: that I was questioned on the insurance I purchased online. Then I asked if it was necessary when you have your own car insurance and she said she could not answer that because she wasn't sure.

Car and rental contraxy not found in the system!
Pros: Airport drop off!
Cons: Can't find my contract in their system. Took me 45 mins to drop off and get me paper work so that i can be on my way, almost made me miss my flight!

Pros: Easy pick up in downtown Chicago if the vehicle doesn't have damage.
Cons: Car smelled like smoke and looked like it had been taken on a long road trip and then not been cleaned.

Pros: location, hours, price
Cons: they gave me a car that the drivers seat had been previously urinated on. After I drove the car for a couple hours the smell kept getting worse until i discovered where it was coming from. I was forced to delay my trip waiting for the location to receive a new car I could trade it for. Then I had the inconvenience of driving down there to replace the car, and I had to wash the jeans I was wearing as the seat made them smell. WORST CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER.

Pros: Car was ok.
Cons: Pickup was a disaster! There were too many cars in the garage so we could not get to our car. The garage staff sent me back upstairs to tell the clerks but one clerk rudely sent me back downstairs. The upstairs clerk & garage staff were arguing and we had to wait a long time to get the car out and had to take a different car than what we reserved. The garage staff were trying to be helpful but the upstairs clerks were clueless. They had cameras so could clearly see there was no way to get the cars out but ignored the situation. So even though we allowed extra time we were late for our sons college tour & interview which is unacceptable in this highly selective college process. Will never use Avis again and expect a refund for this unacceptable treatment & inefficiency

I need some more Avis in my life
Pros: Everything went smooth at the Midway Avis location in Chicago. I was even able to upgrade at a discount. Pick up and drop off went as smoothly as one could want.
Cons: I wanted to extend my rental one more day but going through the phone automated service was very tedious and extremely expensive. I understand, there are reasons we do reservations but come on now. That would be my only gripe.

Gave me a 14 passenger van in downtown Chicago ins
Cons: The van was not cleaned out from the prior customer.....dirty cups, garbage, cookies all over the seats and dirty clothes lying on the floor. Had to spending 30 minutes trying to remove or lower the seats so that I could see past the 12 headrests behind me. DISASTER!!!!!

Pros: Counter & phone personnel were good people.
Cons: Hourlong delay picking up car at O'Hare Airport due to systemwide computer reset; car had transmission problems; upcharge when I kept the car an extra day, which the company removed when asked; but no other discount or recompense for poor performance. Worst rental experience I've had in years.

Chicago Midway may need more employees and better
Pros: Initial price was good, but make sure to check receipt for automatic gas fee if you are under 75 miles. I let the worker know that I had filled up, but still was charged about a $14 fee for nothing in return. Awaiting a $ return still.
Cons: Understaff3e at Midway waited for a short bit of time good thing I was not trying to make an early flight. Be prepared.

No one there - take a book - expect long wait
Pros: Nice car, good price.
Cons: Pickup service was poor. At 11 PM, as I got to the front of the line, the lone agent behind the counter simply walked away mumbling something, and there was no one to check me in to get the car I'd reserved. After waiting more than 10 minutes, a grouchy man appeared and started to help. The original agent then showed up again and sheepishly started to serve the next person in the queue of about 8 people.

Cons: I was given a hybrid vehicle - which was fine - but nobody explained the basics on how to drive it when I picked it up. I had to resort to trial & error.

Perfect Convenience! !
Pros: The customer service was great. The convenience of the location (proximity to Midway Airport) without all those crazy airport fees. Easy to get in and out. Enjoyed the new Hyundai. 8940 Cicero location is perfect and very safe for travelers.
Cons: Charged $23.00 for being one hour late. LOL

Drop off and pick up were awful
Pros: There was very little I liked about the rental except maybe the price through Kayak. When I priced the rental directly on Avis' website it was more than double the price we got at Kayak.
Cons: Only one person was working the rental desk upon arrival. Even though there were only three people in front of us in line, it took over 30 minutes to rent a car AT MIDNIGHT. It wasn't during peak hours. We were told we were being charged for a full tank of gas which would be credited when we returned the car with a full tank. The credit wasn't applied. The person checking us in upon return said this was something he had been seeing a lot and didn't know why. He wasn't able to apply the credit so we had to go stand in line again to get our money back instead of catching the shuttle for the terminal. This provided unnecessary stress to our family, and I think this is a money making scheme on Avis' part. Most people probably don't have the time to stand in line to get a credit when they have a flight to catch. Also, we rented an SUV. We were given a Subaru Outback which was very uncomfortable didn't provide the extra room we needed. Overall, not a good experience.

Knows How To Take Reservation But Not How To KEEP
Pros: When I finally received the car I wanted, it was great.
Cons: Up until that point it was miserable working with Avis. We had reserved a minivan as we have 2 carseats for kids and it would provide the best arrangement in the vehicle. At the counter, it was clear they hadn't actually set aside a minivan and tried to upsell me to a "nicer" car. Since I was exhausted after flying with 2 young kids, I said sure, even at a higher cost. Unlike a minivan with the two separate seats in the middle, it had two rows of seats in the back, making it impossible for anyone else to get into the car after the car seats were strapped in - this obviously wouldn't work. After going back in and demanding a minivan, they said they'd have one ready in 15min, during which we're just sitting there with two restless kiddos (1yo and 3yo). When they switched us back to the minivan, they also did not adjust the price, and we were simply left charged an extra $15/day for a car we didn't take. No apology, no attempt to correct the billing. I will not be working with Avis again. Be sure to demand the car you want and don't let them upsell you. We paid 2x the price quoted on Kayak.

Tried to rent me a car not in the size I wanted
Pros: I liked how easy it was to return the car and I liked how smooth the shuttle experience to the airport was, and i liked the car's cleanliness (once I finally negotiated to get the type of car I chose online.
Cons: I chose a midsize passenger car online and the guy tries to rent me an SUV when I get there, and then with difficulty they find me a midsize car finally. Stressful.

Pros: The vehicle and the cleanliness
Cons: The pricing seemed to be much higher than everyone else for a one day rental. I had no choice though. All flights were cancelled from Chicago and I could not get anything until 2 days later. Needed a car to drive home. At return of the vehicle; there was a lot of added in charges that I was never made aware of. Also, they tried to charge me for a full tank of gas, when I actually only used 1/3 of a tank.

Holiday rush - long lines
Pros: Car size for price, cleanliness, condition of the car - even with over 20,000 rental miles on it.
Cons: Long lines - over 30 minutes to get to the counter, then the agent wanted to explain why she could not find a car for me - I kept reminding her that I just wanted a car, not an explanation...

Pros: Much better price than usual for Midway pick-up.
Cons: Pressure to buy Avis insurance, even though I had policy through Amex. Plus, hatchback lock rattled and set off open-door censor.

Pros: Over all it was a good car for the money. I booked it on-line. for $340.00 In person... if I had just called in or walked down there, the cost would have been $500.00. What a joke!
Cons: I hate white cars. It was a Jetta. It pulled a little to the left. Returning the car to the lower level was tricky. One way up and down.

Pros: Good, reliable car
Cons: Customer service was lacking. They acted far too casual about the whole thing, and weren't forthright with the bill. I had to continue to pester them to get them bill right, and to share the parameters of my rental.

Cons: They charged me almost a full-day's rental rate for being 10 minutes late
