Gave me a 14 passenger van in downtown Chicago ins
Cons: The van was not cleaned out from the prior customer.....dirty cups, garbage, cookies all over the seats and dirty clothes lying on the floor. Had to spending 30 minutes trying to remove or lower the seats so that I could see past the 12 headrests behind me. DISASTER!!!!!

Worst Customer Service
Cons: Waited 45 minutes with only 2 people in front of us in the line. Ridiculously slow

Pros: Counter & phone personnel were good people.
Cons: Hourlong delay picking up car at O'Hare Airport due to systemwide computer reset; car had transmission problems; upcharge when I kept the car an extra day, which the company removed when asked; but no other discount or recompense for poor performance. Worst rental experience I've had in years.

Cons: Buckets seats make it hard for one to get out of the car.

Chicago Midway may need more employees and better
Pros: Initial price was good, but make sure to check receipt for automatic gas fee if you are under 75 miles. I let the worker know that I had filled up, but still was charged about a $14 fee for nothing in return. Awaiting a $ return still.
Cons: Understaff3e at Midway waited for a short bit of time good thing I was not trying to make an early flight. Be prepared.

No one there - take a book - expect long wait
Pros: Nice car, good price.
Cons: Pickup service was poor. At 11 PM, as I got to the front of the line, the lone agent behind the counter simply walked away mumbling something, and there was no one to check me in to get the car I'd reserved. After waiting more than 10 minutes, a grouchy man appeared and started to help. The original agent then showed up again and sheepishly started to serve the next person in the queue of about 8 people.

Cons: I was given a hybrid vehicle - which was fine - but nobody explained the basics on how to drive it when I picked it up. I had to resort to trial & error.

Pros: Speedy return service.
Cons: I wasn't sure why the bus dropped us off at baggage claim. But we figured out how to get the check in gates.

Not a good experience
Cons: Avis could not find my reservation. Rented me a car at a higher rate. I will not repeat this experience.

Drop off and pick up were awful
Pros: There was very little I liked about the rental except maybe the price through Kayak. When I priced the rental directly on Avis' website it was more than double the price we got at Kayak.
Cons: Only one person was working the rental desk upon arrival. Even though there were only three people in front of us in line, it took over 30 minutes to rent a car AT MIDNIGHT. It wasn't during peak hours. We were told we were being charged for a full tank of gas which would be credited when we returned the car with a full tank. The credit wasn't applied. The person checking us in upon return said this was something he had been seeing a lot and didn't know why. He wasn't able to apply the credit so we had to go stand in line again to get our money back instead of catching the shuttle for the terminal. This provided unnecessary stress to our family, and I think this is a money making scheme on Avis' part. Most people probably don't have the time to stand in line to get a credit when they have a flight to catch. Also, we rented an SUV. We were given a Subaru Outback which was very uncomfortable didn't provide the extra room we needed. Overall, not a good experience.

Knows How To Take Reservation But Not How To KEEP
Pros: When I finally received the car I wanted, it was great.
Cons: Up until that point it was miserable working with Avis. We had reserved a minivan as we have 2 carseats for kids and it would provide the best arrangement in the vehicle. At the counter, it was clear they hadn't actually set aside a minivan and tried to upsell me to a "nicer" car. Since I was exhausted after flying with 2 young kids, I said sure, even at a higher cost. Unlike a minivan with the two separate seats in the middle, it had two rows of seats in the back, making it impossible for anyone else to get into the car after the car seats were strapped in - this obviously wouldn't work. After going back in and demanding a minivan, they said they'd have one ready in 15min, during which we're just sitting there with two restless kiddos (1yo and 3yo). When they switched us back to the minivan, they also did not adjust the price, and we were simply left charged an extra $15/day for a car we didn't take. No apology, no attempt to correct the billing. I will not be working with Avis again. Be sure to demand the car you want and don't let them upsell you. We paid 2x the price quoted on Kayak.

Tried to rent me a car not in the size I wanted
Pros: I liked how easy it was to return the car and I liked how smooth the shuttle experience to the airport was, and i liked the car's cleanliness (once I finally negotiated to get the type of car I chose online.
Cons: I chose a midsize passenger car online and the guy tries to rent me an SUV when I get there, and then with difficulty they find me a midsize car finally. Stressful.

Pros: The vehicle and the cleanliness
Cons: The pricing seemed to be much higher than everyone else for a one day rental. I had no choice though. All flights were cancelled from Chicago and I could not get anything until 2 days later. Needed a car to drive home. At return of the vehicle; there was a lot of added in charges that I was never made aware of. Also, they tried to charge me for a full tank of gas, when I actually only used 1/3 of a tank.

Holiday rush - long lines
Pros: Car size for price, cleanliness, condition of the car - even with over 20,000 rental miles on it.
Cons: Long lines - over 30 minutes to get to the counter, then the agent wanted to explain why she could not find a car for me - I kept reminding her that I just wanted a car, not an explanation...

Pros: Much better price than usual for Midway pick-up.
Cons: Pressure to buy Avis insurance, even though I had policy through Amex. Plus, hatchback lock rattled and set off open-door censor.

Pros: Over all it was a good car for the money. I booked it on-line. for $340.00 In person... if I had just called in or walked down there, the cost would have been $500.00. What a joke!
Cons: I hate white cars. It was a Jetta. It pulled a little to the left. Returning the car to the lower level was tricky. One way up and down.

Pros: Good, reliable car
Cons: Customer service was lacking. They acted far too casual about the whole thing, and weren't forthright with the bill. I had to continue to pester them to get them bill right, and to share the parameters of my rental.
