Carol was awesome!
Pros: Carol, the receptionist in Syracuse at pick-up was phenomenal! Engaging, knowledgeable and helpful.
Rate was incredible and size of car for the metal class was great.
Maybe the best rental car experience I have had.

Cons: Our flight was delayed by over an hour and by the time we landed the rental counter was closed. I was unable to contact them due to the fact that I followed the rules by turning my cell phone off once the cabin door was closed. I feel that hertz should ensure all flights are in prior to closing. I call customer service and told it was completely my fault and I was left stranded over 60 miles from final destination. I was only told to get a hotel room and wait til morning. This would all have cost me more money that I was not willing to spend. I will never rent from hertz again even as a last resort.

Pros: Comfortable little car with some nice acessories. I would rent that size again.
Cons: Did not like the color. Black showed a lot of dirt. Do not like the gas feature of when the car is idling and turns off car to conserve gas.

Pros: After I got re-routed to a different airport, my 24-year-old son had to pick up our car instead. I was worried because I thought you had to be 25 to rent. There was a small fee associated with it, but he was able to pick up our car with no problems, last minute. Thank you!

It was great price and service
Pros: Van was ready to go, it was proper clean . Sll the paperwork done in less than 5 minutes which is great.
The price I got it was best.
Cons: Nothing was that what I did not like.

Pros: An upgraded vehicle was ready for pickup as scheduled.
Cons: There was noone at the desk when I arrived, and noone answered the phone when I called, so I rented from Avis instead.

No staff at counter
Cons: Payless apparently has staffing problems at this site. There was no one on duty at 4 PM. Fortunately, someone from the adjacent Avis counter was able to rent me the car. Otherwise it was fine but it's not OK to have no staff on duty.

Dirty car and smelled like stale smoke
Pros: Pick up and delivery was easy
Cons: INitially the clerk tried to charge an extra 20$ and then when questioned, he made the adjustment to the original quote. INitially I thought the car smelled like stale smoke, but out the window down and it wasn't bad. The next day, when I drove further it smelled so bad it was nauseating, but I didn't have time to return the car. When night came, I realized the inside of the windshield was filthy and smeared causing considerable headlight glare. There was also a map from the previous renter and a bag of trash in the trunk. When I reported this politely to the clerk, she put a note in my reservation. I don't think she really cared. I will not use this company again.

Unhappy with insurance arrangement
Pros: Payless knew nothing of the independent company from whom I purchased insurance, and tried to sell me their own.
Cons: Did not understand that I was not purchasing insurance from Payless. Uncomfortable with the dis-connect with Payless. I know you make money on insurance but I felt LESS secure because of the arrangement. Insurance is about buying a sense of security, so this arrangement failed
Pros: Best option to get from the Syracuse Airport to Ithaca when you don't have a ride. It is so much for convenient and affordable than the car service and limited bus schedule.

Cons: - They over-estimated fuel consumption and billed me excessively, or did not give a clear estimation method.
- Airport tax ($40) was labeled deliberately obscurely and not included in initial offer totals.
- Agressive upselling to higher models was tasteless and crass.

Pros: The vehicle is nice and comfortable. Other than the comments below it was a good experience.
Cons: The windows looked like they were cleaned with an old rag. The night we picked it up it was rainy and we couldn't see very well. stopped at a restaurant and used water and paper towels to make it where we were gping.

Pros: This car smelled bad and drove worse. It made more noise than the bed in a hotel that rents by the hour. Terrible

Pros: The Pick/up was delightful and the help we got via phone and than in person was magnificent.
Cons: Person who took the keys and handled the drop off was at best rude but more important incompetent and in every aspect the opposite of the service received at pick-up.

Pros: Easy pick up and drop off
Cons: Bugs not completely cleaned from windshield and candy (3 M and Ms) on floor along side the passenger seat.
Cons: Nobody to collect car. Line to return was 2 hours long. You have about 100 pissed off customers from that return date. Matter of fact I'll be calling about getting a refund. HORRIBLE. UNACCEPTABLE to run a business this way.

Funeral for my Mom
Pros: This time Budget was perfect!!! As it always has been in the past in Syracuse Airport!!! But in Indiana last October they took me for a ride with the bill!!! Hundreds of dollars over my bill!!! That place in Columbus Indiana I will NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!!! THIEVES!!!

Cons: Horrible customer service. Wouldn’t replace windshield wipers on defective blades and we had to drive through lake effect snow the entire time. Tried to turn it in, spent hours with customer service, all lies and no follow through. Never rent with Budget.

Transmission system repeat failure
Pros: Car was clean,
Cons: Two hours into a drive that should have taken 4.5hours the transmission started to fail and there was no acceleration. Called roadside assistance but because I was in rural NY there were no pick-up locations nearby. I rented this vehicle to make a flight out of LGA and if I had waited for roadside assistance to finally get to me I would miss the flight. Despite repeatedly "resetting" the transmission I was only able to drive 40mph and even slower uphill. The drive was unsafe and unpleasant and what was a 4.5 hour drive became a 6 hour drive.
