Cons: I made a reservation through Kayak with a debit card, but was told at the desk that it wasn't possible to use a debit card with an in-state drivers license.
Returning the car was confusing and the people were rude.

Nice car and fast services
Pros: quick checkout and return.

Pros: Vehicle and price were great
Cons: Pickup was unnecessarily slow. I had a reservation and should have been able to use the kiosk but they didn't work for our ID's which made everyone stand in line for a very long time. I would have been very happy with our service but the pick up took way too long and will likely not use Alamo again regardless of good pricing.

Weird Feature on Chevy Malibu
Pros: The rental in general went OK. The agent persuaded me to purchase two extras: an I-Pass for the tolls and a full tank of gas. The I-Pass was worth the money. The full tank of gas wasn't, as I used only half of it.
On balance, it was a good rental.
Cons: The Chevy Malibu has a strange gas-saving feature. When the car is left idling in Drive For more than 30 seconds, the engine shuts off. The engine restarts as soon the driver presses the gas pedal. The feature functions well at stop lights, but takes some getting used to, as there is pause before the car actually begins moving.
In heavy, stop-and-go traffic, the automatic shut-off is annoying. It feels like the car has stalled or is having engine trouble (not a good feeling in rush-hour traffic!).
Pros: At least Enterprise had an alternate vehicle for me. Pleasant personnel.
Cons: Enterprise did not hold the vehicle I had reserved, and the alternative provided was not as comfortable nor fuel efficient.

Poor customer service
Pros: The van was fine. It was easy to pick-up and drop off.
Cons: They guy that assigned me the van at the Enterprise office was kind of a jerk. He kept trying to sell me things I didn't need. For example, I didn't need the GPS. I can easily get directions from my phone. When I pointed this out, under his breath he said, "Great to keep rolling through all that data." I don't need that. How does he know how much data I have.

Pros: The customer service at O'Hare Enterprise was excellent. I rent often all around the country and it was some of the best customer service I have ever received.
Cons: The price was too high - clearly elevated for the holiday period. That was disappointing... and reflects poorly on the ethical standards of the company.
Cons: They messed up my contract and completely ripped me off on the extension. More than $100/day. I waited in line for nearly an hour to get the car, on a slow Saturday afternoon. Literally one clerk to handle everything. Horrible experience.

Ok rental service
Pros: The agent at pick-up was very nice and professional.
Cons: The vehicle had a tire pressure monitor sensor issue and I didn't leave the rental agency for 50 minutes. At check-in I was charge a late fee that was eventually reversed by budget billing...the check-in agent failed to say he was charging me for an additional hour.

Beware of fuel charges
Pros: Quick car drop off.
Cons: We filled-up gas ten miles from O'Hare airport and got credited with a 7/8 tank and a $22.87 fuel charge at drop-off . We noticed the charge on our receipt as the shuttle dropped us off at the terminal and called Budget immediately. Even gas station receipts could not get the fuel charge reversed. The Budget fuel charge seems to be nothing more than a hidden fee.

Pros: Drivers of shuttles were friendly and stowed and removed our luggage without being asked (I'm handicapped and use a cane). When we needed help on the road, we were able to reach a human being on the phone (true, he was unable to be of much help, but he certainly did his best). Checking the car back in, despite somewhat sketchy signs, was very quick.
Cons: Check-out agent was very pushy in trying to get us to upgrade to EVERYTHING - more expensive rental, GPS, full protection package, full tank of gas, etc, etc. Car was not well cleaned - carpet needed vacuuming, rear window was dirty - on a brand-new vehicle with less than 100 miles on the odometer! Despite having a reservation, we had to wait almost half an hour for a car. Agent led us to the car, then left - the employee that we stopped in the lot was unable to tell us how to use the cruise control (it was NOT intuitive), leading us to eventually get off the road and stop at a most helpful Nissan dealer. We had a Cadillac SRX - seats were somewhat hard, acceleration pathetic, but it handled well and had many useful features. However, wide side pillars made it difficult to detect drivers coming from angled side streets. Quite economical for the highway. So, on our next rental in two weeks, we'll try a different company and hope for a better experience.

Good deal, but need more team members.
Pros: Once we got to the counter, the rep was more than courteous. He made sure we would fit in the car, he brought me to 3, an Escalade, a Navigator and an Expedition. We needed 8 seats so Expedition. Big comfortable car- sat all us well and our luggage. Didn't cost an arm and a leg. I did pay an extra 100 for the upgrade- even though it was the car I originally ordered. Dropoff was easy, pull in- they came over, checked gas and mileage and gave me a receipt. Told me to take my time unloading- at the airport. Fast and friendly.
Cons: Long wait at counter for service at pickup. Seemed staff disappeared. The Sirius radio only worked for about 5 hours of our rental, would have been nice to have the whole time.

Cons: Drivers window filthy. Hard to see out of at night with on coming traffic. Had to find a place that sold windex and paper towel to clean windshield. Was insulted by attendant suggesting due to my body size I would be better off in a larger car. Also Attendent charged me for satellite radio which I did not want.

Super easy return
Pros: The drop off at Budget couldn't have been easier or smoother, despite the fact that we were there following a big snowstorm and many cancelled flights, which led to a big run on rental cars. Two thumbs up for Chicago O'Hare's Budget office!
Cons: Was only there for a second, dropping off. Not much to say - they did a good job.

Holiday rush - long lines
Pros: Car size for price, cleanliness, condition of the car - even with over 20,000 rental miles on it.

Cons: The pricing seemed to be much higher than everyone else for a one day rental. I had no choice though. All flights were cancelled from Chicago and I could not get anything until 2 days later. Needed a car to drive home. At return of the vehicle; there was a lot of added in charges that I was never made aware of. Also, they tried to charge me for a full tank of gas, when I actually only used 1/3 of a tank.

Tried to rent me a car not in the size I wanted
Pros: I liked how easy it was to return the car and I liked how smooth the shuttle experience to the airport was, and i liked the car's cleanliness (once I finally negotiated to get the type of car I chose online.
Cons: I chose a midsize passenger car online and the guy tries to rent me an SUV when I get there, and then with difficulty they find me a midsize car finally. Stressful.

Knows How To Take Reservation But Not How To KEEP
Pros: When I finally received the car I wanted, it was great.
Cons: Up until that point it was miserable working with Avis. We had reserved a minivan as we have 2 carseats for kids and it would provide the best arrangement in the vehicle. At the counter, it was clear they hadn't actually set aside a minivan and tried to upsell me to a "nicer" car. Since I was exhausted after flying with 2 young kids, I said sure, even at a higher cost. Unlike a minivan with the two separate seats in the middle, it had two rows of seats in the back, making it impossible for anyone else to get into the car after the car seats were strapped in - this obviously wouldn't work.
After going back in and demanding a minivan, they said they'd have one ready in 15min, during which we're just sitting there with two restless kiddos (1yo and 3yo). When they switched us back to the minivan, they also did not adjust the price, and we were simply left charged an extra $15/day for a car we didn't take. No apology, no attempt to correct the billing. I will not be working with Avis again.
Be sure to demand the car you want and don't let them upsell you. We paid 2x the price quoted on Kayak.

Drop off and pick up were awful
Pros: There was very little I liked about the rental except maybe the price through Kayak. When I priced the rental directly on Avis' website it was more than double the price we got at Kayak.
Cons: Only one person was working the rental desk upon arrival. Even though there were only three people in front of us in line, it took over 30 minutes to rent a car AT MIDNIGHT. It wasn't during peak hours. We were told we were being charged for a full tank of gas which would be credited when we returned the car with a full tank. The credit wasn't applied. The person checking us in upon return said this was something he had been seeing a lot and didn't know why. He wasn't able to apply the credit so we had to go stand in line again to get our money back instead of catching the shuttle for the terminal. This provided unnecessary stress to our family, and I think this is a money making scheme on Avis' part. Most people probably don't have the time to stand in line to get a credit when they have a flight to catch. Also, we rented an SUV. We were given a Subaru Outback which was very uncomfortable didn't provide the extra room we needed. Overall, not a good experience.

Cons: I was given a hybrid vehicle - which was fine - but nobody explained the basics on how to drive it when I picked it up. I had to resort to trial & error.
Cons: I can't wait to have my attorney look over this incident! After making and getting a confirmed reservation, changing my travel plans based on this reservation, HERTZ stranded me on Christmas eve morning at 0230 am... They refused to rent me a vehicle and stated that they do not do 1 way rentals on christmas. After showing the counter person my reservation, they again refused to rent me a car. I then went to their website and tried to make another reservation and they were still showing cars available. I was told, regardless of what the website said, they would not rent me a car.
This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I work in customer service and I would never do that to someone on Christmas... If their cars were truly not available, they should have blocked them out like all of the other rental companies.
Had they done that, I never would have changed my reservation and flown to a city that I didn't really need to be in.
I will be looking for reimbursement for all of my travel expenses (even though they were minor) so as to not allow any one to set a precedence for this type of service, operation, treatment and overall business practice. This is false advertising, and is tantamount to a breech of contract.
Not only do I deserve answers, but I deserve an apology. I hope that this review is passed around and this company is put on notice!
