The check-in was faster than other companies I’ve used recently. The car was clean and in good condition. The drop-off was very quick and the attendant was very friendly. All in all the best experience I’ve had in the past few years and so I will use Alamo again next time

Rental car in Detroit had defective key fob. Progressively harder to start car. Couldn’t open doors with fob. When I got the car it only had about 3000 miles on it. Car itself was nice and new. Couldn’t understand why fob in a new car wouldn’t work. Finally traded car in Traverse City for a car and fob that worked. Was traveling in Northern Michigan and was worried that we would be stranded somewhere in the woods.

Long line at the pick up desk, and only one person working. About 20 minutes later, another person came, and it took her about 20 minutes to get situated and log in the system. Excuse was they have a new system and she had to reboot her computer. Then, she told be I had to pay for an upgrade to a Rogue, but that is what I had already reserved. She rechecked, and confirmed. Then, I had to pay an additional daily fee to add me as a driver. I explained when I made the reservation, it was paid by my husband's credit card, even though he cannot drive, he paid for it. The on line reservation would not allow me to change the primary driver to me, so didn't think it would be an issue. At DTW, suggest putting the sign for Dollar with the Hertz sign. We walked down to the Dollar sign, and was surprised to find out he needed to walk back to Hertz.

Windshield wiper blades were worn and torn. Had to drive in rainstorm and I had a very hard time seeing. Safety hazard. Paid for a full size car and was given a midsize car. We had a generally great experience but when we arrived, there was not a car in our category, though we were sent to the lot twice with assurances there was. It took us about half an hour to get a vehicle. The staff member on duty was very helpful and gave us an upgrade that we really enjoyed. She deserves a medal, but the system needs to run more smoothly.

Flight was late and called upon arrival for oickup to be notified thst company would be closed by the time I got bags and arrived… asked for options solutions only to be told nothing they could do and come back Monday. This was Saturday. Went ahead took a shuttle to rental area hopefully to maybe get another rental company. Hertz group on same counter as Dollar honored my reservation made with dollar and said they do this all the time. There were 3 other people there doing same thing and they took car of all of us and luckily they had a car for me too. Very poor customer service on dollars part and non of us will make the mistake again with dollar. A little training and maybe compassion might go along way cause it “ain’t all about the Dollar”

The vehicle is clean but not well-maintained. The suspension was very stiff and felt like it did not exist. The door light alarm was always on, even I closed all the doors firmly several times. And I had to walk across the parking lot to find the car in the rain by myself.

The pickup was easy since there was no other customer in the office. The place was D E A D. That was good for me.The drop off process was very poor. There was no attendant. The van ran good. We needed to keep it longer, it was very easy to call the 800 # and extent the time.The pick up & drop off process needs improvement. The people behind the desk seem indifferent and lazy. We had to write down the damage on the vehicle, which was dirty and hard to tell. Upon return, there was no one outside to accept the vehicle. When I went inside, I was asked to return the key to the vehicle & get the mileage. No one looked at the car

Staff was friendlyThe shuttle took 15min to come, it was nowhere in sight, while Avis and Hertz etc has 3 come by one after the other, barely picked me up right before 1am, it’s when they close, so i almost didn’t get my car. Stood in the cold for awhile. It wasn’t that unbearable but the fact that i saw everyone else’s shuttle come 3 times and my company closed at 1am and it was 12:52 when they picked me up. I would rather not use Thrifty’s again if i has a choice.

It would have been helpful to have the parking space clearly marked on my paperwork. Overall, though, everything went smoothly.

Horrible experience. They gave car with no battery & no curiosity to even serve us first as we return back due to bad car issuance. I dont recommend to any one for this kind of poor customer service & they gave a remote that has no buttons( Mazda SUV). Plus car has all kind of indicators & we are not sure if that car will complete the trip.

Pick up was a disaster, long wait and much confusion between Avis, Budget and Payless. Car turned out to be an SUV that was backed up to a light post base so the rear door couldn’t be opened to put in luggage. Drop off was also a mess as there was no place to put the car and no directions to bus stop. I was directed into a spot which was partially blocked by a plastic post so I couldn’t get in straight. I also was not expecting to have $250 charged to my card when the rental was PREPAID!

The car windows would have benefited from a treatment of RainX...during a couple of rain storms the raindrops beaded up so much on the side windows and side mirrors that it was very difficult to see through them. I even stopped once to wipe them off, but they instantly beaded up again.

It began after reserving the car on Kayak, the rental was due back six hours before the time I had requested. Calls to priceline (Kayak went through priceline?) and payless were unhelpful as both said I needed to call the other to change a dropoff time. After four calls, two to each company I gave up, then I told them when I picked up the car and they said they couldn't help me either. Finally, I just dropped the car off at a time between my requested drop off and when they had scheduled me and was told it was fine and there would be no additional charge. Pick up was a nightmare, I waited for over two hours to pick up my car in Detroit. The process was poorly organized and service was slow, though the attendants at the desk were kind. The car was acceptably clean and nice. The return process was easy too. However, I was double charged for the car (from the third party I found the rental through and from Payless). I still haven't been able to get the charge from Payless removed from my card. An extra $228 with slow and unhelpful response.

Yikes - I recognize the challenges in today's rental car and employment market, but the DTW process is a total train wreck! Arrived to an office that was overwhelmed with people, lines that were not marked so that "your correct line" could not be easily identified, workers that were doing their best but angry customers, customers whose car weren't where they were sent or had overt mechanical issues, etc. The lot add additional cars parked all over and if there WAS signage for the exit, it was not apparent to me...or to the others who like me were creeping around the lot in the dark trying to get out. The process coming in was the same - left to park in the chaos where ever as no one directing traffic (or signage). Then someone comes and points me to a better place (after I'm already unpacked) and when we get there...no one there to help. I waylaid a rather lost worker to finally check out. If that's the rule at DTW, I will fly/rent elsewhere in the future.

Payless did not have its own facility, but said to use Budget/Avis. When I arrived, there was a line for Budget and for Avis but none for Payless. When I asked the staff where I should go, an employee told me he wasn't sure if there was a Payless person around and he would have to check "in a minute." He then proceeded to sit at his computer terminal and ignore me for ten minutes. I had to ask another employee who the "Payless person" was, and finally someone helped me. But then, even though I had prepaid for my reservation, it turned out that they didn't have any cars available and had to contact "dispatch" to get one. I ended up waiting a long time for a car. The car had a dirty windshield and bad wipers and was hard to see out of when it rained.

Our flight was delayed and Budget was closed. No phone number to call. Fortunately, a random shuttle driver told us to go to Avis (along with many other people who were also delayed). Line out the door at Avis and only 3 people working there. We waited about an hour. Staff was extremely friendly and god humored but over worked and tired. Sent to a space number with no car. Back to the counter. Upgraded to a bigger car that wreaked of cigarette smoke and made a terrible noise the whole weekend. Bottom line, budget closes at 11:00 and renters should know to go to Avis. Pack your patience. The 3 employees were doing their best and everyone waiting on line recognized this.

I gave them a low rating because I had to call 4 times to make a change to the reservation. They said they would call me back and they never did. Then when I arrived at drop off, the change I'd called about 4 times wasn't recorded properly so I had to wait 20 extra minutes while they worked it out. It was mostly the Detroit Metro Alamo location that had poor customer service. It was a simple change. I needed to change the drop off location from Chicago to Detroit because my mother died during my reservation period. They wanted to charge me $600 extra to make the change. Ridiculous. Won't be using Alamo again.

We stood in line for over 2 hours to get a car that was rented on line. There wasn't enough staff and they were running out of cars. Every person in line was tired and couldn't believe it took so long to get their rental. The fast pickup was also closed. I was not happy with the experience.

Minimal cars to rent . Our particular rental had bald tires and stains in seats. We were able to upgrade free of charge which was nice, yet took time to get this accomplished. bus from plane area to rentals had excellent driver, very friendly.

Lines were extremely long! I got there late due to flight being delayed twice! Lines were extremely long, I asked the Manager if he could help me expedite to get my car due to that because I was late for an event I flew in for. One event had ended and the other one had just started. He said no, it’s nothing I can do I’m sorry. So, I said “Excuse me everyone, my flit was delayed twice and I’ve missed one event and the other one just started, do you mind if I go next” Everyone politely said, yes please go ahead! The Manager was totally useless! The guy at the counter, who waited on me was extremely nice, efficient and fast!

Great car, some staff not-so-greatCar was excellent -- clean and ready to go. Unnecessary stress at initial check-out, but returning the car was quick and easy.Initial check-out was bad. Credit card reader didn't work, and rather than try another one (that particular card reader wasn't working), I was told to call the third party I had pre-paid for the rental (Kayak) and tell them I'd have to use a different card. Finally, I went to a different clerk further down the counter who simply ran my card on her card reader and it was fine. The whole encounter added another 15 minutes of unnecessary stress. I had also noticed the customer in front of me having a similar problem with the same clerk.

The customer service representative was extremely unpleasant and combative. From the moment we walked in, there was an attitude of hostility. Simple questions were answered with abrupt and unhelpful responses. I was not expecting for the red carpet to be rolled out for me and I understand that the night shift may come with a bit less of a cheerful attitude but her abrasive attitude was completely unnecessary. What was particularly disheartening was the fact the woman behind us in line was greeted warmly and helped promptly. It was clear the service representative decided she did not like us from the moment we walked up. We nearly cancelled our reservation and left for another rental car company but luckily the manager Zachariah came to the rescue to assist with our reservation when the woman “helping” us decided to disappear while we waited. If this Russian roulette of service representatives is what I can expect from Avis, I don’t plan on using their service in the future.

I booked through Kayak and the price was $70, including taxes. When I dropped off, multiple charges I never agreed to were added and the total became $140, including $32.99 for waiving the extra insurance and $16.99 for a fuel surcharge when I didn’t use any of their fuel. So a good price became a bad price.

Staff was incredibly kind and patient but Avis corporate is failing their people. The line was out the door when I arrived from my flight because Avis has not employed enough people to work the desk. This location shares a facility with Avis's other labels (Payless and Budget). The layout for which line reached which label was unclear but the shuttle drivers were able to help direct confused customers. Once it was your turn to work with the staff, they were kind, helpful, and positive (despite being overworked themselves). The car was also not very clean. It was clear that someone had smoked in the car at some point recently (presumably an earlier customer). Hard to stomach paying the daily rate with this company, despite the great in-person staff.

Everything was excellent except for one thing; the amount charged on my credit card was way higher than my rental agreement and the final amount upon return. The National car rental location was Detroit, Mi Airport and returned to Brownsville,Tx airport. Something happened in the transition and hopefully National can correct the problem! I have a dispute reference number and I am waiting for the call from National at this time.

We had a delay because the vehicle we reserved wasn’t on site and ready at the appointed time. We had to wait a little over an hour past our pick up time. They were as accommodating as they could be considering the circumstances and they adjusted my rental cost fairly to compensate me for the inconvenience. Outside of that, the experience was perfect and the vehicle was great. I would definitely rent again.

I was refused a rental car because the ID reader was not up to date and did not recognize my driver’s license. It is a basic enhanced real ID from MN. Very disappointed and frustrated. I also waited at least 20 minutes for the manager to come “verify” that they couldn’t rent me a car. They didn’t even try to help me find a solution. What a waste of time. Shout out to Enterprise for finding me a rental!

Pickup was terrible. Drop off was easyThe car was great and drop off was quick and easy.The pickup was terrible. Attendant in the lot just stared right through me as I asked a question 3 times and then yelled into his radio. Eventually I gave up and figured it out myself. He never acknowledged that I was even standing there. Then i walked all the way across the lot to the building and the clerk inside asked a bunch of questions about insurance even though I purchased it when I booked the car. I didn't know it was third party but he acted like it was no good. Then told me to go out by the fence to get a truck. The only vehicles by the fence were needing maintenance. Someone drove by and told me to go back in and have him call for one. So I did. Waited 15 more minutes and the lady from Alamo came to ask if I was waiting for a truck and that it had been parked on the other side.
