The check-in process took forever. It was a large line and at the beginning the attendance. Chatting among each other, Delaying the process. Finally, a young man came in. And checked in as many people as the previous to attendance did together. I’ve been to this car rental before, and it brought a memory of the last time we experience the same thing. Very frustrating.

I prepaid for my car only to get to the counter and wait for just under an hour. Once assigned a car, I again waited because I was then told my car was double booked. I finally got a car, and it was a great car. However, after turning it in on time I was charged for 3 additional days because they had me down as driving a completely different car. Definitely will Pay More next time and rent from someone else.

Getting from baggage claim to Payless terminal had to stand in long lines to get on the bus. The customer service agent was very nice and friendly. We ended up getting an electric car, but never told us about what charging stations we could use being not familiar with that type of electric car and where the charging stations were a big problem wasted a lot of time during our driving experience, trying to find chargers that would work.

Payless always comes through, the pickup and dropoff process is fast and easy never any issue.. The payless cars are very updated and reliable, the price is always affordable and the deposit is always given back as soon as you drop it off, no extra charges or fees.. I highly recommend them, been using them for the past 3 yrs everytime i travel and not 1 issue..

Line was long to pick up. Drop off was super easy. Car was somewhat clean. According to the mileage it was brand new, but did not seem brand new. Value was great and affordable. Wish I would have know it was a base model with out some of the luxuries. Will rent again just might upgrade to a model with more luxuries.

The car they initially offered barely had room for 5 passengers and absolutely did not have room for 5 pieces of luggage. This required an upgrade at an enormous price increase. Instead of a 4 day rental, i dumped it after less than a day and found a way better deal elsewhere

The staff / crew were all superb. Though the car I was given had been smoked in / had a cigarette burn in the seat / had recently been deep cleaned to cover it up. So that was less than ideal but fine, especially since I booked the least expensive economy available. But again, all the staff was super nice. Overall is a good experience, I’d rent from them again.

Maintenance light was on from the beginning. Questioned before we left and gal said Tacoma trucks have that issue. Ran fine but a little unsettling knowing some kind of maintenance was due.

Pros:

Absolutely nothing. Worst rental experience of my life. Car was dirty upon pickup. Had to make a few changes to my itinerary and their customer service line was busy or disconnected. It automatically more than doubled my charges. When I left a poor review at Avis, I was contacted by a customer service manager who said he would credit me back $200...and after 3 follow up emails over the course of 2 weeks, he has not responded. Horrible company

PDX has rental pick ups left unmarked, leaving you guessing where to go. When you finally get to Thrifty, you then will likely have to leave your stuff and go back downstairs. They didn’t give me the car I requested, and because of it I ran out of miles before my destination. I had to stop to charge the EV - it cost me $50 to get enough juice to get me to where I was going, and then Thrifty charged me again for being undercharged. Terrible experience.

Car was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. ONCE THEY STAFFED THE COUNTER PROPERLY FOR THE REZ LOAD. It took literally 2 hours in line to pick up car. Two agents for Avis / budget combined with at least 70 people in queue. After hour and half , 3 agents arrived and helped solve it. But missed an afternoon of touring planned. I have traveled for 45 years and it was worst pickup line delay i have ever experienced. Not agents fault but mgr should be aware of rez load with flights info.

Mystery car: is a medium size [not small] pickup truck. Awkward, bulky, hard to park. Returning the truck was the biggest problem. I followed the Budget signs till they ran out, and couldn't find the return bay. I asked for help and was told "over there" repeatedly. Staff finally said "just leave it here, we'll take care of it."

Cleanliness was very poor, there was trash from prior rental, steering weel was sticky, and overall dirty interior. Value would be better if the car was well kept, but when you calculate the added cost of having to rent at the airport with the condition of the vehicle it is not a good value.

Terrible I spoke to them several times throughout the day before I showed up to get my rental car and I was told that first they didn't have the car that I was had originally rented and then they didn't have the second car that they said that they would have for me in place of the first one and then when I got down there they refused to accept my card that I had that I had told them several times during the day that I was going to be using and that I had held the reservation with so I ended up not getting in the car at the last minute and had to go find somewhere else to get a car and I'm very upset about it it all stemmed from the fact that they were closing at the time of my pickup and they didn't want to deal with me pretty much it was quite obvious how they felt

I rented from the downtown Portland Hertz office instead of at the airport due to large price difference. When I called the Hertz agent to find out which Max tram stop was closest to the office, the agent did not know where the Hertz office was located relative to the tram line. That would be helpful information.

Pick up was a nightmare, got sent back and forth up and down to 2 different floors, eventually got sent to a pick up area and was told 'go to area 3'. We go and there's nobody there...we come back...'which car is ours'...and are told 'just take any car'. So we take a car that is the size we wanted, are told it's fine then as we leave the parking lot, a woman scans the car and tells us it's not driveable, so we have to go back in and find another car and rinse and repeat. It was a pretty poor experience, par for the course with hertz.

Car was clean & ready to go. It was easy to move my reservation when my flight was delayed. My only complaint is the "airport" fee, when you have to Bart to target parking lot to get your rental

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
