Pros:The car itself and picking it up.Cons:Returning the car. No instructions provided on how to return after hours, had to call to get support. Ended up getting charged a fee for being narrowly behind my scheduled return time.Reviewed Dec 1 2020

They gave away our prepaid car and didn't have any othersCons:We caught the train from Seattle to Portland. We were pretty hungry by the time we arrived and so got a coffee and some food at a place around the corner. By the time we arrived we were a bit more than an hour arrive our estimated arrival time. When we arrived at Hertz the person at the counter said (that despite us prepaying for the car) that they had given our car away and they were all out of cars. Apparently they had done us a favor by holding it for an hour!! I have never had this happen before. In my experience when you pay to rent something you are free to use it how you want during that time - imagine someone rented out your hotel room if you check in late. I get it when you only have a reservation but we had already paid. Then came the worst customer service ever. The store manager Ryan Lange then blamed us saying "I'm sorry you were late" and then proceeded to tell us that "the door is that way". Think about when airlines overbook flights. They apologise and then offer a solution. Totally unacceptable.Reviewed Jun 15 2017

FocusPros:We got a brand new ford Focus, better than many cars in this bracket. Decent fuel ecconomy, but somewhat slow for overtaking etc!We got a 'brand new Cford Focus, better than many cars in this bracket. Decent fuel economy, but somewhat slow for overtaking etc!Cons:The only issue we had was the usual one when they add insurance at the pick-up. Expedia sold it as fully insured, but I turns out it didn't cover uninsured drivers so that was a ofver $100 :(Reviewed Jun 14 2016

Cons:I didn’t realize the pick up site was NOT at the airport. Not a huge issue since my son was available to pick me up and take me to the rental site. If it would have been after 6PM, it would have been a issue. At return, I had to leave the car on the 5th floor of the parking garage with no one to visually check the car when I handed over the keys. The elevator was non functional so we had to haul our luggage down 5 flights of stairs. Had we been told that when I called for drop off instructions, I would have dropped off my son and our luggage on ground floor before taking the car to the 5th floor. The office attendant was helpful directing us to the lite rail transit station but we had to wait since he was the only one in the office and was tied up on a phone issue with another client Luckily we had allowed extra timeReviewed Dec 31 2019

Run far away from this company!Pros:Nothing.Cons:We were stuck in traffic , 10 minutes away from closing and the agent said he would not wait for us. There was an unforeseen accident on the freeway that caused our delay. He was adamant that they would not wait. Even 5 minutes for us to get there. They refused to let me pick up a vehicle at another closer location - unless I was charged another $700 for that car plus another $200 credit hold on my credit card. I had already paid them in full on my credit card for the first car, which now I couldn’t pick up due to the agents unwillingness to wait for me. My trip was delayed another day because I had to wait until 9am the next morning to pick up my vehicle. Was not what I had been promised. The “generous trunk space” barely had enough room to hold 2 bags and as a result, I had to upgrade to the tune of $63. The car they had ready for me only had 3/8 a tank of gas in it, as well. Terrible terrible terrible customer service and they will never see a dime from me in the future!!Reviewed Jul 9 2018

Just the car itself...Pros:The staff, the ease of both the pick-up and drop-off process, and the price were all superb. If the actual vehicle(s) were as excellent, everything would’ve been 5 stars!Cons:The first car we were sent to was a nice, new, swank one (a Nissan), but on opening the door, the smell of cigarette smoke was overpowering. The staff was great and switched us immediately- but to a smaller, much higher-mileage vehicle (Nissan Rogue). Only once we got on the highway did we hear that the road noise was like a dull roar, and when slowing down after going very fast, the wheels made a strange sort of chugging sound. Since we’d already left and already complained once, we just dealt with it. The XM radio worked properly, so we cranked it up to cover the car’s noise! Hopefully the vehicle is a better one next time!Reviewed Sep 20 2018

Hertz tries to scam you as much as possible.Pros:upgrade to a Jeep from a compact because they had RUN OUT OF THE CARS I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR!!!!!!!! It is luck that this is a positive.Cons:The location is awful. The service is average, although friendly and not the fault of the staff, who try their best while dealing with RIDICULOUS Hertz corporate policy. Imagine prepaying for a car IN FULL, and still having a $200 hold on your credit card. I already paid. Not cool. Then, despite being told the opposite, nobody was there to receive the car upon return. Last time this happened, Hertz claimed damages to the vehicle that weren't there and tried to charge us for nonexistent damage. We ultimately prevailed but this time I recorded a complete video walk around of the Jeep to show it in better condition than I received it.i feel like kayak is cheapened with scammers like Hertz and it lessens the excellent service you provide by affiliation. I will never rent from Hertz again.Reviewed Oct 29 2017

Don’t like hertzPros:The car was what we were expecting and was comfortable.Cons:We arrived on time and it took 2 hours to get our rental car. They weren’t apologetic about it They charged for an extra driver who was over the age of 25 which most don’t do and we weren’t told ahead of time. We requested an airport pick up but we were given a car facility 25 minutes away from the airport. They made us sign a blank screen without telling us what we were signing, only to find out that it was a signature to agree that we received the car under ten minutes. (Took us TWO HOURS. Not ten minutes). When we asked what we were signing, the employee was hesitant to tell us.Reviewed May 22 2018
