Filed a claim on me
Pros: Friendly lady. In and out of there is a heatrbeat.
Cons: A month and two days after my drop off, I received a call from Viking Billing Services notifying me that a claim was filed on the rental for damage totaling over 700 dollars. I drove the car straight from Bend to Portland and returned it in the exact same condition as it was given to me. Either the did not read the previous damage report or they caused damage after I dropped off the car and tried to bill me for it. The friendly woman who checked the car in gave me a receipt standing right next to the car and had no damage to note. The claim, as of now, has been dropped, but only after over an hour and 5 phone calls.

Cons: honestly the only negative to this experience was that you're responsible for retrieving and returning the vehicle yourself... at the top of an 11-story parking garage. other than that, everything was perfect!

Great customer service. Super expensive.
Pros: The customer service rep at the counter was awesome. He was friendly and helpful and moved us through quickly.
Cons: The price for the car for 24 hours was astronomical - due to demand with the eclipse. (pun intended) Rates shouldn't be so determined by supply/demand. Economical should mean affordable all of the time - if you have a car, rent it to me at a fair price. Don't gouge me because you have my hands tied.

Cons: There were only 2 reservationists st the Avis counter on our arrival. Process took 90 minutes. There were no cars available and we had to wait

Cons: I was given an incorrect address for the rental office. Then I found out they wouldn't let me pay with a debit/credit card. Back to the airport and switch to Dollar Rental which did accept my card.

Good experience except for pick -up
Cons: I thought that my car was pick up and drop off at the Portland Airport, but it was only drop off. I was very surprised that I had to take a $50.00 cab ride to get my car on the other side of Portland my first morning! Drop off was great, though.

Eff you for charging so much to drop off at airport
Pros: The car itself.
Cons: Having to go to some Budget/Payless/Avis franchise off airport grounds and have no way to get there or back to the airport - no Avis shuttle. And with two small children. Shame on you Kayak, and shame on Avis for partnering with you.

Avis didn't honor my quote
Cons: I made a reservation online for 6pm, but it turns out the office isn't open at 6pm. I got there at 6pm and I could see that someone was inside the office but they wouldn't open the door (understandable, they were closed, I guess). I couldn't start my rental and the Avis phone rep wanted to charge me about $350 instead of the $60.79 I was quoted, so I canceled the reservation. When I finally talked to the lady inside the office, she didn't help me. Never using Avis again- they could have at least called to tell me the office wouldn't be open, and the website should have not allowed me to make a reservation for that time.

Pros: Liked being able to rent away from the airport and avoid all those stupid airport taxes and fees.
Cons: Didn't like that rental guy was the only one taking calls and customers and couldn't fully explain how "keyless" works, or what the battery and fuel gauge had to do with each other (I misread the battery charge as an empty tank.) Also the headlight location? He should have had the time to explain some of the controls since I've never driven a hybrid before.

Pros: Car was fine, got a surprise upgrade which was pretty handy. Also were able to change our drop off to the airport (extra fee) which was great.
Cons: Unwittingly just barely made pickup time, apparently the downtown location we picked up at closes at 2pm on Saturday! We made it with 15 minutes to spare.

Avis pulls through, again!
Pros: Flights delayed and missed connections caused me to have to scramble to get to my destination via Portland instead of my planned Eugene direct. Avis provided the vehicle I needed on the "fly" and I was able to pull off what would have been an expensive wasted day.

Missing information on AVIS web site for Portland Airport
Cons: There is no info on the AVIS web site telling you the rental cars at the Portland Airport, PDX, are located at the airport. Most airports, such as San Diego, where we came from, have the rental cars located offsite. We waiting for a shuttle van to come by, but no AVIS. We tried the phone number and just got the "press 1,2,3,etc message. Finally some airport employee told us to go to the AVIS counter and the cars were located in the upper parking structure.

Cons: The agent was new and overcharged me by $790. It took 1 1/2 hours on the phone and 7 requests from am agent supervisor to review it. Then the gas upon return was a overcharged. Will never do or recommend Anis again! Terrible customer service!!!!

Close too soon
Pros: Price was great. $168 for 5 days for Nissan Altima
Cons: Said they close at 6:00 PM. I arrived at 6:00 and they were already closed. They were there but wouldn't open the door. Cost me $35 in Uber fees from the airport and back. Then I had to rent a car for one day at the airport that cost me $128. Defeated the whole plan to rent off site to save money.

Don't pickup from downtown Portland on a Sunday morning.
Cons: I reserved a car for a 9:00am pickup Sunday morning at the downtown Portland Avis location. We got there at 8:30, not realizing they didn't open until 9. Even though there were people already there, they wouldn't let us leave our bags while we went to get breakfast. We lugged all our bags to breakfast and returned around 9:30, only to find about 10 people in line ahead of us. We then witnessed 2 of the slowest employees imaginable take over an hour before they got to us and had us on our way.

Pros: This place is much cheaper than the airport car rentals and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: It would be nice to have a shuttle to the airport, but perhaps the reason they are cheaper is because they don't offer that service.

Pros: Price was outstanding. Lot was difficult to find, but was near airport. Shared space with Budget. Signage and lot were crowded and a bit confusing.

Cons: The first car I was given was impossibly touchy on the brakes, so they changed it for another that was quite a bit older. It worked just fine, though.

Pros: Mitsubishi Lancer is a great car for one on the road. In town dropoff is less hassle and much cheaper than airport. One way rental was cheaper than I expected.

Pickup site closed
Pros: Car and rate
Cons: The place where we were supposed to pick up our car closed 30 mins early. This forced us to go to another location - 20 mins away - to pick up the car and also pay AN ADDITIONAL $5 since it was from an airport. It was either pay the $5 or forfeit the rental. The customer service rep even asked if I was sure if the place was closed. Yes, pitch black office with a locked gate.

Pros: The Avis rep at the pickup site went above and beyond! Stayed past closing for me as I was stuck in traffic due to an accident.
Cons: The interior windows were horribly streaked! Had to stop twice to clean them!

Cons: Was not able to use my AVIS preferred number in order to speed through the rental process. Please make it clear at the outset that there is cost to the discounted prices in terms of poorer service quality such as inability to associate the AVIS preferred identifier with your reservation.

Cons: My car clearly had a smoker using it previously and felt like it was cancer ridden. I also found a bunch of pretzels underneath the drivers seat. It was disgusting.

Brand New Nissan Rogue
Pros: The car was brand new and super clean. I thoroughly enjoyed driving the car. It was comfortable and had reasonable acceleration.
Cons: Upon exiting the airport garage, the attendant was very rude. The manager on duty happened to come by. He was very friendly and receptive. He apologized and explained that he's regretting the decision to hire contractors for this position. He said he appreciated my input and would use it as an example at his next meeting with the bosses. He may be lying through his teeth, but he was very nice and easy to work with.

Won't use Avis again due to customer service
Pros: Car was fine
Cons: Did not like that I was not told about the additional $200 reserve charge on my debit card. Also DID NOT agree to additional insurance. I never have and noticed that I was charged $7 a day and called and was told the only way I could get it taken off was to come into the terminal and speak to a representative. Well I was 2 hours south all week attending my fathers funeral and that was not a option! The person on the phone was not helpful at all. I have good insurance and would have never agreed to more !

Kayak is garbage. Adam the manager is great.
Pros: Adam the manager at PDX airport saved us after Kayak facilitated a rental at the "airport location" that was actually not at the airport and was also closed at the hour when the car was reserved.
Cons: Kayak tried to ruin our vacation.

What a way to travel
Pros: It was clean and smelled nice when we picked it up. It was comfortable and had many hi-tech features like a USB port and Bluetooth It was fuel efficient, we got 18.5 MPG Lots of storage space in the back for our luggage. (We had 5 passengers)
Cons: By the end of the 7 day trip I was wishing that I could electronically adjust my seat, but I think that was more about being in the van for 7 days and less about the van.:)

Pros: Staff was friendly and helpful. Car was nice and clean.
Cons: We chose an off-airport location because our flight arrived after midnight and to save money, but it may have been a wash when considering taxis to office from our hotel and from office back to airport.

Not what I was hoping.
Pros: Rental location was convenient. The car worked as expected.
Cons: I had specifically requested/rented a compact car, and was given a large sedan. I was told it was all they had when I arrived at my scheduled time, which I don't understand because I had made the reservation in advance. I wanted a small car for specific reasons. The car I was given had clearly not been cleaned from the previous renter, the seats and detailing were dirty and the windshield and back window were smeared quite heavily. The smell in the car was also not pleasant. When I returned the car, their "systems were down", so I was asked to write my email address on a piece of paper, make a few quick notes on the check-out paperwork and leave the key on the counter, without anyone looking over the car while I was there. There only seemed to be one person working and he was too busy to really help me. I never received any kind of email confirmation of the return. I just had to walk away hoping I wouldn't get docked for something. I'll probably avoid Avis next time.
