Will use Turo in the futurePros:That it was a SUVCons:I booked a SUV with kayak, only to get to thrifty and get offered an economy car. Why do you even book online when the service agent/thrifty is going to offer you something less anyways... It was as if I was buying a car after that. I had to pay extra for my already paid booking just to get the SUV and negotiate a better price. This wasted a hour of my booked time with the vehicle. I always try to avoid renting a car by using Turo instead but this time kayak beat the price, only for me to get to thrifty and wish I had used Turo.Reviewed Mar 21 2017

Cons:I needed to return car early but was not aware of a fee for doing so. The rental return guy said I needed to call, which I did ( automated number) but yet was still charged extra 25.00 for returning the car 3 days early. One would think you would receive credit for returning early. When I went to customer service they gave me a gift certificate for future use at thrifty for 25.00. Ha! Like I would ever rent from them again. Also was told I needed to show receipt from a gas station fill up within 10 miles. They never asked for that. Never heard of a company asking for that either.Reviewed Apr 12 2017

UpchargePros:Clean, new vehicleCons:Asked to add 4 hours, that changed my rate from $55 to $240. Told me to sign for the additional $190 without even mentioning it, said I was signing for for more hours. Counter personnel unable to change it back. Told me to have them change it at the check out gate. That led to a big backup and supervisor being called over the radio. Gate personnel got frustrated and told me to just go and they would email me a new contract. Almost missed the wedding because of the hour it took to check out. Multiple people frustrated at the counter. Attempted to charge $10/gallon for fuelReviewed May 13 2018

I will never use Thrifty againPros:The people at the counter were nice, there just were not enough of them. Seems like the people that work there are cool, must just be the company itself that sucks.Cons:I was upset because I felt like I was talked into getting their insurance, which I didn't need because my personal insurance covers me. Thrifty told me that my personal insurance wouldn't cover me, and so I bought insurance through them for almost double the price of my original car rental agreement. When I left the airport I called my personal insurance, (state farm) and found that I was definitely covered through them. I tried to call Thriftys customer service and I was redirected 4 times before I finally got through. When I did, they told me I would have to come all the way back to the airport to sort it out and get it taken off. A very nice sales clerk helped me to that, but I was pretty frustrated that they had talked me into getting it in the first place and that I they didn't answer the phone and that I had to drive all the way back to the airport. I feel like they prey on people like me that don't travel all that often. Not to mention they're wait times were insane. I would not recommend them. Too many hidden fees and false pretenses.Reviewed Sep 25 2017

A positive airport car rental experience for a chaPros:Relatively short wait in line at the counter (less than 5 minutes) and it was the start of the weekend holiday too so I was grateful the Rental Rep. did the "upsell" but I politely declined and all was good. (no further arm twisting, I had my existing insurance ready and I know how to fill a fuel tank myself) Below, in the garage, I was presented with 4 cars to choose from, which was good because my wife didn't like the protruding head rest in the first car so we just went to the next one. I am grateful the rental clerk advised me on what to expect ( expensive toll charge + service fee if I cross bridge with out paying cash, to bring car back with full tank and the fuel receipt.....). The return car crew was pleasant and considerate. We reviewed the exterior of the car together to avoid any unwarranted damage charges.Cons:I don't care for the crowded shuttle ride to the SEA TAC Car Rental building. I returned the car with a full tank, and I presented the gas station receipt (and yes the attended asked to see it even though the fuel gauge registered a full tank) Very strange to have to do that, luckily the Rental clerk told me to bring the fuel receipt back with the car. the fact that I canNOT register my car rental plate numbers in advance to pay for toll bridge cost automatically meant I had to avoid some bridges/lanes altogether.Reviewed Jun 5 2016

Do not rent a car from ThriftyCons:I booked the car(at Seattle Airport) in October of 2018 with pick up at 3;00 PM 12-23-2018 and return at 3:00 PM on 12-25-2018. Unfortunately our flight arrived early and we arrived at the counter at 2;30 PM. The agents we encountered were very unprofessional, unsympathetic, non courteous and obnoxious. This rental was compact car with total charges of $88.15. This woman printed the receipt and handed over to me with the rental price $ 477.58. When I questioned the price and showed her the printed copy of my rental, I was told I am picking up the car 25 minutes early than the scheduled pick up time. I told her that the extra hour is $ 5.00. She consulted the other agents and we were told that there is no such thing. Then I requested her that: since this is a large facility we will leave the rental facility only after 3:PM. She said that this rental company counts the time when I sign the paper work. We decided to wait. At 2;55 PM I got to the counter again and there were three agents. Two were free and the agent I was working with had another customer. The gentleman who was standing and doing nothing refused to work with us because the company policy states that we have to wait for the agent (whom we initially worked with) till she is done with the other customer. We left the Facility at 3:08 PM on 12-23-2018 and returned the car at 2:16 PM on 12-25-2018 well before the 48 hour rental time. But I called the customer service at 8:30 AM on 12-24-2018 and discussed this whole situation. I was informed that this should not have happened and the extra rental time is $ 4;53 / hour and with taxes and fees it comes to $5.00 per hour. I rent cars from Seattle all the time.Obviously, I will never rent a car from Thrifty Car Rental again and recommend / request my fellow car renters to stay away from this car rental. Nick. Car I reserved was NOT availablePros:Not muchCons:Reservation clerk at airport only knew how to upsell to a bigger car by comparing what she could charge on the rate card with what she was offering us to pay - sold the discount only and no value. Also, no explanation as to why she didn't have the car I reserved. Could not make any decisions - went back to manager behind closed doors at least three times and each time cam back with a negative response. Took no responsibility for not having the car I reserved or made any effort to accommodate our needs. First and LAST time i will ever use ThrigtyReviewed Aug 6 2017

Cons:Picked up the vehicle. Drove to the exit area and was told the vehicle was reserved so had to make my way back to the pickup area which was of course against all traffic. Was told the vehicle needed to be serviced not reserved as told earlier. So had to go through the whole process again. This put me in the middle of rush hour traffic. 2 hour drive turned into 5. Called customer service upon returning home an received 0 satisfaction from them. Would not rent from thrifty again nor recommend to others.Reviewed Oct 19 2017

Pros:The car was nice and a good deal concerning the other prices by other rental companies. The associate the checked us in was very accommodating.Cons:When I originally booked through kayak I entered sea tac airport as my pick up and drop off location. I never confirmed and looked up the address of the Thrifty location because I assumed it would be at the airport that I entered. I got on the shuttle to the car rental terminal where I had to wait in line for an hour because there were so many guests arriving and only two associate working. When it was my turn the associate informed me I went to the wrong thrifty so I had to take the shuttle back to the airport then the train to downtown Seattle where the Thrifty I rented from actually was. I would recommend a much stronger and noticeable alert that the location of this thrifty is not at the airport. I found it says that is small writing randomly in the second email I got. It needs to be more noticeable while booking the car.Reviewed May 13 2021
