Expect the terminal in Monterey to be slightly cramped because it is a small airport. It is best to check in ahead of time on the airline’s app so that when you arrive, you can go straight to the kiosk and print your luggage tags to avoid waiting in line. They will call your name once your tags have printed. So much easier and convenient!

SJC is physically a smaller airport. The gates are closer and TSA has shorter lines, They are not subject to weather delays as much as SFO. On the other hand SFO offers more flight options, both in the number of flights each airlines flies and the number of airlines serving the airport.

Pack a snack food and airport is very expensive. Bring an empty water bottle. There are lots of filling stations. Delays seem to happen frequently be flexible and kind. You’ll get to where you’re going.
