Cons: If i'm going to be picky, the downlights in the bathroom were thick with several millimetres of dust and need cleaning. We also ate the first night at the hotel's Quarre restaurant, our main course got mixed up and we were short-changed when paying the bill, both errors were corrected immediately and the staff were very apologetic so we put it down to genuine mistakes.

Pros: Very large and clean spa and pool area, relaxation zone with lemonade, cookies, and apples. Plenty of space and sun loungers to relax, amazing view from the pool. Tasty breakfast with lots of vegetables and fruits , eggs Benedict for breakfast was the best yummy. The bed and pillows were so comfortable that I didn't have to look for another. We really enjoyed "blackout" curtains and could sleep all day. The bathroom was clean and with lots of light (which is important).

The rooms are beautifully updated with very well appointed bathrooms. Entertained clients on three occasions at the Curtain Club. Could not have asked for better service. Nicholas in the Curtain Club should be commended for a job well done. This will certainly be my go to hotel in Berlin for future stays.

Cons: I expected too much from Ritz, I guess. First of all, I cannot control the lights with buttons next to bed, malfunction, so every time I need to turn on or off, I walked all the way to the front door. Secondly, they didn't place hair dryer. I really don't need it so I didn't call the reception. Maybe it's 'well' hidden? For me it was painful hide&seek and decided not to use it - anyway it was not that important for me. (I told the reception about it when I checked out for other customers.) Thirdly, then I used the tea lounge for light snack during the day time, yet the lady is friendly but very unprofessional especially for this 5 star hotel tea lounge. I ordered coffee, cake and juice. They forgot the coffee and brought cake first without any drink... then "much" later juice and then.... no coffee. I asked them to bring the coffee in a polite way and her respond was "what?.." for a few sec and then "oh yes.." and that's it. No apology or any excuse. She was not rude at all but that was a bit strange for me. I like the interior and the taste of cake but service level made me really uncomfortable. So overall, not value for the money. Lastly, breakfast... really plain or quite special or healthy options or variations. You can see this kind of breakfast for 3 star hotel in any major cities these days. I'd recommend that you go to any hip cafes in mitte area to have cool breakfast if you are not busy in the morning. Cheaper and much better options & taste. Yet, service was super friendly! I've been to non-franchise and local 4 star (or 5) hotels in other areas but their room interior, condition, service level, and even breakfast were way much better - and of course, they were cheaper. I think Ritz became one of those plain franchise hotel and no effort anymore to develop their level. Definitely the whole experience was not 5 star for me at all and no value for money.

Cons: I don’t get harassed by racist guest usually but when I do prefer hotel management not to side with the perpetrator. Unfortunately this is exactly what happened. We got kicked from the sauna for not being naked after give two different explanations, non of those are the official policy of the hotel. One explanation included the fact that we are not German so we cannot understand. There are many 4 star hotel in Berlin where I have stayed that has better service than this one. Avoid it unless you are - you know - German.

Cons: Attention to details is a bit lacking for a structure at this level. The restaurant is clearly understaffed for breakbeat. Had to ask to get tables clean since there was no place to seat. No lactose or gluten free milk or yogurt available, the coffee machine was out of service both days (had to ask the waiter). Whole wheat bread run out but wasn’t replaced. Had a coffee machine in the room but they didn’t bother to take out the dirty coffee cups even if they clearly entered the room to empty the trash bins. They just left the dirty cups there. Had to clean myself in the bathroom. Was charged two different amounts in the bar for the orange juice even if it was always the same size.

However when we stayed berlin was very hot and the climate control in the room overnight was not conducive for a good nights rest. they did supply us with a fan but it just blows the warm air around the room.We both like a cool bedroom for sleeping 16 c and this was in the 20's every night. Other than this I loved the hotel. It is very busy at breakfast but there are so many staff on and everything just runs like clockwork. Well done to the excellent staff that work here. Saturday was the busiest day and they just open the breakfast room into the restaurant and everything was cool. We did not have young kids with us but it is very child friendly with even special serving stations for the toddlers to serve themselves. happy kids happy parents!

Pros: The location was amazing! We didn't even realize there was a Ubahn station at the edge of the hotel with cars going through the center of the hotel until our second day there. Brandenburg Tor was only a short walk away. the staff was friendly.
Cons: I heard the breakfast was expensive, so we walked to the nearby cafes instead. They claimed you could control the temperature from the TV, but we couldn't cool the room down any.

However when we stayed berlin was very hot and the climate control in the room overnight was not conducive for a good nights rest. they did supply us with a fan but it just blows the warm air around the room.We both like a cool bedroom for sleeping 16 c and this was in the 20's every night. Cons: The housekeeping has declined considerably. I’ve been staying there for 3 years and this last time I had to repeatedly ask for housekeeping to do my room. Cons: We thought the beds were dreadfull, very uncomfortable and gave us serious back ache. The glass block wall to the bathroom is not a good design idea. If one person needs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night the lights are so bright in the bathroom and shine right onto the bed through the glass blocks. so dreadfully annoying. The bed is too big for the room and there is not enough space to move around, particularly between the windows, table, chair and bed. This means guests are often stubbing their toes on the bed legs when trying to pass. The tv only had a couple of channels in English and these were news channels, very sad. The German channels would have been fine if we were able to view tv shows with English subtitles. One last thing, when we booked our room and prepaid we expected to have the entire cost known. The tax charge we received when checking out was an awful surprise as this should have been included in the overall cost and not an addition at the end. Most unhappy.

The staff were not friendly at all and we did not get treat well. At the breakfast all the servers were rude and tried not to speak with us in English. The room colors are very bright yet dull with bad combinations, too many colors I did not like the bathroom because once u take a shower the entire bathroom floor gets wet. The bed is one of the worst I have slept in. The billow is even worst than then bed. In short our experience in berlin was ruined simply because of this hotel.

One strange thing: I asked the reception at midnight to order a taxi for next morning. Then a few minutes later I call them and ask to cancel that. They respond they are not sure the order can be cancelled, which was totally weird - it was still 6 hours or so till the taxi was supposed to come. They tell me they will call me back in 10 minutes. They don't call me back, I call them in half an hour, they tell me it is done and cancelled. Too much hassle for such a simple thing.

Cons: I paid in cash, but I still had to give a credit card in advance to withdraw the "safety deposit" before payment. As a result, when leaving, they told me that this was not necessary and they will talk with the person who received me at the reception. 5 or 6 times I had to change the key card until the reason was clarified and corrected. They apologized. The impression was a little bit spoiled, but in general, these are not critical trifles, which I do not want to spoil the overall rating of this hotel, as this was the only place in Germany (and at home too) where I tasted really tasty coffee. So much so that I could drink it without sugar with pleasure. It was only surprising that the kettles with coffee were on the table separately from the rest of the food.

Pros: The breakfast quality is average. Fruit pre-cut early so does not taste good at 09h00. Why on earth pre-fry eggs and keep them on a warmer; yuck! It takes 2-3 mins to fry an egg, I ordered freshly fried eggs. Need to also have some fresh baked items on offer like muffins, pastries...
Cons: Breakfast needs improving. Chef at egg station was lovely and helpful. Let your guests know that you have a coffee machine instead of instantly presenting them with a can on filter coffee which was probably brewed awhile before. Fortunately we saw the coffee machine.

Pros: It was very close to the lovely big Tiergarten park. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and very quiet. It was nice to be able to make a cup of tea in the room. Restaurant looked reasonably priced however we only had two nights so didn't have option to try it or the café.
Cons: Bonus question - Hotel style doesn't fit any of the four options. It was more a very large older hotel, good for large groups - I would say almost too big. It was a bit remote in many ways - wasn't easy to get to the more trendy side of town we had to catch cabs. Some staff were very nice, others were not overly helpful at all [didn't smile much] .

Pros: The location is right in the center of the city - very convenient! The hotel is very nice and easily accessible from both airports in Berlin. The checkout process was a breeze. Quite large room and comfortable beds. Very satisfied overall.
Cons: They could have provided a welcome bottle of water in the room. There is not a single grocery store in at least a one mile radius, and bottled water at the restaurant cost us 7 Euros per bottle.

Refuse to pay room service to eat breakfast in room because we have dogs....so don't know what breakfast or restaurant food was like...however we did eat by Brandenburg gate...Hotel Aldon....very nice...

Pros: Everyone was very helpful, kind, professional and efficient, breakfast is legendary, 5 minutes from Philharmonie by foot. Rooms are very clean, amenities in abundance. Cons: The staff were so indifferent to the point of being rude. Examples: 1. I complained of a dirty armchair and matching footstool. There was a disgusting stain on the chair especially. (I have pictures of it, but they suggest things too gross for family viewing). It was never cleaned during a stay of 5 days! 2. Upon arrival I informed them that I needed an iron as there was none in the room. I had to argue for some time to get them to agree to deliver one "sometime in the morning". 3. I went to use the gym, using the door that the woman at the desk told me, only to be followed by an indignant staff, speaking harshly to me in a mix of German and English, telling me that I could not use that door, only the other elevator meant for the pool. When I informed him, having to insist before he would quiet down and listen to me, that I only followed instructions of the staff, he didn´t even apologise. 4. NO toiletries at all in bathroom, except one type of gel on the wall. 5. NO coffee machine or tea kettle in the room. 6. Terrible cafe in the breakfast-undrinkable. 7. Dirty and stained seats in breakfast room--again, on being informed by staff I was met by total indifference. 8. In the "spa" area, the Pool filled with many large groups of small children, who didn´t even have a changing room, but were herded into the hallway, where their clothes were left on the floor, and they changed, with no privacy. 9. Racist treatment of African woman and her children at front desk, where all could view it, and no apologies even given when the woman complained (in a perfect English I might add). 10. Cleaning staff always left windows open, and upon returning to room at night after longs days of work, room filled with flies. They should let guest decide or not to open windows.

Cons: The check out was the worst at all, long line with one receptionist only and the lobby is so hot, no air condition even in the prime of the summer, they have blocked the double amount of the stay, this so weird and super bad when you travel, if the total of your stay is 2000€ , so they going to block another 2000€ and total of 4000€ !!! it’s week from now still didn’t receive my money back, this protocol has made my trip so disorganized and my budget at risk.

Cons: We arrived in the city at 6 am, arrived at the hotel. The staff kindly agreed to accept storage. I clarified whether it is possible to return for earlier check in. I was told that yes, no problem, from 13 hours you can come. By this time, we had bought food and returned. We were told to wait further. As a result, we had to walk around the city with groceries for 2 hours, waiting for the start of check in.
