Pros: It was quick
Cons: Service here is so bad. Safety inspection sticker expired. Car was dirty. Low tire pressure warnings immediately after leaving.

Cons: Beware of your pickup time if you book this separate from a flight, they will give your car away, or claim to, and charge you much more for something else! Also, the service was so-so at best and the first person I dealt with was horrible! BTW, based on another comment I see, you can absolutely pay the tolls in NJ with cash, and NY as well. The toll device is always a ripoff IMHO.

Pros: Nice vehicle, well maintained
Cons: Rental agent ignored specific verbal requests and added unnecessary charges. We were rushed and did not adequately read the rental agreement (my bad). These issues were resolved, but they should have not occurred in the first place.

Cons: I rent a car on the website and called the customer service to make sure the car is available they told me yes when I arrived at the location witchi is LGA they told me they were sold out after they waisted my time and money. So think about it before you go there they so unprofessional.

Has no business providing airport rental cars
Pros: The car itself drove fine, and the original price seemed good.
Cons: The number given for the location (Newark airport) is, as of my writing this review, an out-of service mobile number. It took me 2 hours of looking and calling to be told that Payless had absolutely no workable options for me when my return flight was canceled: I wasn't able to return it to any other airport (or any other locations in the entire state of New Jersey, as we found out), and they tried to charge $200 to extend the rental by 24 hours; the original rental was $90 for 4 days. Of course I won't rent with them again, but I'm also quite disappointed that Kayak would work with this company as an option for people traveling by air.

Cons: The guy wants to upgrade my reservation and refused to go back to my original reservation. I have to talk to the manager to solve this problem.

Pros: Car was affordable, comfortable, reliable and clean on the inside only.
Cons: This company's main issue is customer service. Aside from the car being comfortable and reliable on the road it was a tedious process to obtain and return. The guy was nice but very slow with the whole process and was taking his sweet time to get us the car. he could of a lot more efficient bit he wasn't. the company should hire someone else to aide him in getting customers and the line moving. when we were returning the car the guy was very rude and obnoxious. He yelled at me and said "never in your life turn the car off I have to check it".

Pros: the low price
Cons: the front passenger tire blew out while I was driving and the spare had a leak so it would not hold air. got a trade in and the tires on it were also poor. bad air leaks. the maintenance people are not checking to see if tires are good to put on cars. sales people did not care about my complaints and did nothing to make me want to come back. no discounts or refunds. bad customer service.

Cons: I was charges $90 more than what was in the purchase agreement when I booked the car. I asked the reason and they weren't able to clarify. I just had to pay.

Cons: Bid online was a misrepresentation of amount charged when arriving at the airport. More than 25% higher! Added unsolicited advised non removable "security" charge per day plus tax etc .

Pros: Mr. Jefferson was polite.
Cons: Didn't have compact vehicle, and then charge me for an upgrade. Someone some me useless insurance. Called three times, nobody pick up.

Bait and Switch - Never Renting from Payless/Budge
Pros: The gentleman taking the return was funny and friendly.
Cons: I made a reservation, showed up a few minutes before said reservation and was told the car wouldn't be available for another hour or so. I showed them a confirmation I received saying the car would be available at that time; I was then told with some attitude that: "obviously the computer doesn't know what cars are in the lot." Okay, things happen, people are late returning cars, I get it. I asked if they could honor the same price but put me in another available vehicle. I was told that wasn't possible and the cheapest available option was 50% more expensive than my original reservation - classic bait and switch. I was completely surprised by the indifference of the young woman behind the counter in trying to resolve the issue, especially considering I was the only person in line! I reached out to Payless in Newark to make it right and was basically told "Sorry, better luck next time." Normally I would have waited for my car to be available but I was driving to a funeral that afternoon. Terrible experience, I'm making a point to never rent from Payless/Budget/Avis group again.

Extra charges at counter
Pros: Nothing...turned down the rental at the counter because of undisclosed charges.
Cons: When contract printed at the counter, the amount was $46 more than quoted on Kayak. Agent said this was some airport security fee/tax that doesn't always show up online when the car is reserved. Agent was flippant about the charge; told me it's not a lot and she/Payless have no control over what I saw when making the reservation. I made other arrangements for transportation; would never rent from Payless again.

Pros: I asked for a car with a Bluetooth and after being told i probably couldn't i did get a Nissan Juge, which was pretty cute. Other than that i was charged twice as much than my estimated rate because of fees and insurance. I really felt like i was gotten over on. Drop off was rough their check in machines were broke which delayed the return time and they ended up charging me for another day! No worries after some time at the check out counter they were able to adjust the price back down. I dropped the car off yesterday so hopefully they're no other hidden charges in my credit card statement that I'll have to dispute later. Chances are next time I'll just go back to enterprise-a company I'm more familiar with.

Cons: The total was not close to what was actually the real total. $63 in taxes for a $30 rental doesn't make much sense. Had I been shown that from the beginning, I wouldn't have booked it. Not to mention the car smelled and was pretty dirty. Pickup was EWR airport. Other companies list the total taxes on the original reservation. The other people in line had the same complaints. I ended up not getting the car and finding alternative transportation.

Great Car, but did not expect a truck
Pros: Easy pick-up. Friendly desk. Quick transaction. Vehicle was clean.
Cons: Ordered economy...got pick up. Fuel at 3/4 of tank. Drop off confusing.

Great drop off experience
Pros: The car was a mess from my 2yr old and the young man who took my car was great. He helped me unload and made me feel better about leaving him with a mess.

Lost & Cancelled Reservation
Pros: I liked the initial feeling that this was going to go well based on the efficient booking process on Kayak. This was very short lived.
Cons: My reservation was lost, and then when my partner attempted to get any information using all of the reservation info that I passed along to him (and offering to have them call me directly, or me call them), he was told that there was nothing that he could do. Then, they "found" the reservation by looking under a code for another airport and alerted him that they had no cars left even though we attempted to notify them and modify the reservation/late pickup. Once told they had absolutely no cars, we both again looked online and immediately found that we were able to reserve the same car at the same price. When we showed that to the counter help, they sighed and said that yes they did have cars, but it would be "like, 45 minutes" until they were ready at the earliest. None of this really made sense, but I wasn't exactly approaching this budget car rental situation with that expectation. Luckily, my partner was able to make a separate reservation, and then "spend time at Dunkin Donuts" until the car was "ready" as directed. I did end up paying for a car rental insurance agreement for both times I attempted to book, and not for the actual rental that took place. Silver lining though - we didn't get any additional damage charges while risking the lack of round 3 insurance!

Pros: less expensive than other options
Cons: Outrageously poor service and an infuriating experience Who are the clowns operating this half-baked rental car business out of Newark Airport? I'm guessing they're evil, whoever they are. When I arrived to claim my reserved car they lied about what my original reservation details were so that they could try to up-sell me into a more expensive contract. Try to get your head around that? The attendant was so rude, she wouldn't make eye contact, and she lectured me with her idiotic company-fed lines until finally accepting that the scam wasn't going to work on me. I eventually got my car as reserved, but it stank like smoke. Absolutely horrific.

Worst rental car company ever
Pros: Didn't like anything
Cons: The manager was rude and when I tried to pick up a confirmed rental, I was told there were no cars. I had a confirmation number, but she said that couldn't help me. This was the Payless rental at Newark airport. Went to the next counter and rented through budget. Don't book with them!
