Cons: "The ground support personnel were surely, obnoxious, and clearly untrained in their own policies. There was massive confusion in JFK for the 1st leg of my trip (NYC - Mandalay) regarding the availability of my visa on arrival. China Eastern argued that it was not available, and nearly did not let me board my flight. They were completely wrong, and made my life miserable in the process. Because of this, China Eastern refused to check my luggage through to my final destination (though this has been done many times before), and THEN informed me in Kunming that I needed to pay AGAIN for my extra piece of baggage, though they had already charged me for it in New York. Do yourself a favor and never do business with these creeps - there are too many other available options for air travel."

Only complaint was very limited entertainment options."

I was sitting in a row of 4 seats, and the person next to me couldn't get anything, so they asked me to get water for them. I asked for water for me, and tried to ask for water for the person next to me, but the crew member just ignored me. I asked her 6 times, and she just wouldn't pay attention to me, so the guy next to me didn't get water."

We had to take Chinese Visa to get to the baggage, even-though it is a transit. We missed the next connecting flight to Shenzhen as it ate up all our time. Now have to travel in the mercy of the airlines for next flight. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LIST THAT "VISA NEEDED IF CHECKING IN BAGGAGE" MISSED ALL FLIGHTS"

From my flight being delayed multiple times by air china to the overly packed united to the confusion of the non updated confirmation numbers or the e-ticket number. Even on the day I left upon arriving to the airport my confirmation number they had just given me after all the prior problems still didn't work. Air china had mediocre food with okay entertainment except my headset jack on the TV was broke and I couldn't watch anything. On the last air china flight from Bejing to Bangkok. I couldn't even charge my phone, watch any entertainment and basically was just stuck with no WiFi. Justfly wouldn't compensate for the changes on their end and said I myself would have to ask the airlines for compensation which the.the airlines directed me no where for compensation or even to upgrade my seat. Now I'm finally in Thailand but I'm scared of my return."

Of course the flight to China was a much larger airplane a Boeing 747, where flight to Sfo was a 737-800 and a smaller Air bus. All my flights made it to destination on time. Or close to it. You should plan on at least 1&1/2 hours between transfers. SFO was under staffed at security long lines, and empty desks. Beijing & Soul airports had smaller lines. The Visa free transit at Beijing worked well."

Airlines, Air China included, should try to provide better accommodations for delayed connecting passengers & not just leave it to airport ground crew or worse, passengers own resources. The only assistance provided was a couple crew directing with flight number signs from the arriving gate. But nothing further than that."

Cons: "After long, chaotic lines to transfer planes in Beijing to head to Shenzhen I was showing my passport to the security guard, and suddenly he calls for someone, and another guard walks away with my passport. I had no idea what was going on. I wasn't told to follow him, but he had my passport, so I followed the guard to get my passport back, and the guard hands me my passport, laughs, and points upward. I walk upstairs and see a mess of lines. A bunch of flights were canceled due to a small storm. The machines to rebook a flight were broken, so I had to wait in a line for 2+ hours in order to rebook a flight for the following day. We were told that there would be a complimentary hotel, but I waited in a line for an hour to inquire about a hotel room, only to be told where my luggage was. They could have held up a sign saying where everyone's luggage was, instead of misleading us, saying it was a line for a hotel room. My suitcase was in a pile of suitcases from all the flights that were canceled, and was difficult to find. After spending 6 hours at the airport sorting out new travel plans, I ended up with no place to sleep, but fortunately found a friend of a friend to stay with. The next day, I arrived at the airport for my new flight, with no seat assignment. I waited in a long line to get a seat, then went to board the plane, and the flight was delayed 3 hours. Overall, it took 34 hours to arrive in Shenzhen after leaving San Francisco. If I had automatic updates sent to my email, or, if there was signage at the airport giving people information, that would have been helpful for the crowds of confused people. I also might have had a chance to reroute my flight Hong Kong to get in earlier, but I had no idea what was going on. There was terrible communication that was not due to a language barrier."
