FAQs - booking West Virginia flights

  • What is the nearest airport to reach the most northern region of West Virginia?

Technically, the closest major airport to reach the most northern part of the state would be to fly to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Landing at the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) will leave you with about a 25 min drive to the West Virginia border. You could also book a flight to North Central West Virginia Airport (CKB).

  • I want to visit the northeastern corner of West Virginia. Where is the closest airport?

Clarksburg’s North Central West Virginia Airport is a great destination choice for anyone wanting to experience the northeastern part of West Virginia. It’s also about a 1h 56m drive from Charleston. However, you should also consider booking a flight to Baltimore, Md., and landing at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). It’s not far from the northeastern part of West Virginia. Flights to Baltimore are less expensive and more frequent than flights to Clarksburg.

  • I want to visit the Monongahela National Forest. Where should I fly?

Booking a flight to the Raleigh County Municipal Airport is one of the quickest ways to get to this national forest, though flights are expensive from both out of state and from Charleston. Booking a flight to Virginia’s Roanoke Regional Airport is significantly less expensive, but the drive will be longer. You could also book a flight to Charleston, and then drive to Monongahela National Forest, but the drive from the airport is long (2h 57m).

  • What is the nearest airport to the Greenbrier Resort?

Consider booking a flight to the Raleigh County Municipal Airport to most quickly reach the resort. Just keep in mind that you will have to drive 54 mi to reach it, and nonstop flights here are expensive. Booking a flight to Charleston will save you money but will extend the ground trip to a total of 121 mi.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United States to West Virginia?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United States to West Virginia.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United States to West Virginia?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United States to West Virginia is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United States to West Virginia?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly from the United States to West Virginia with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United States to West Virginia?

  • Booking a flight to West Virginia’s Tri-State Airport near Huntington, WV, is cheaper than flying directly to the capital of Charleston. However, the two cities are only a 54 min drive from one another, so flying to the Tri-State Airport may be your best option if you want to reach Charleston.
  • To reach the historic town of Harpers Ferry, consider booking your flight to the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virginia. It is the closest airport to the town. You could also fly to Morgantown, WV; however, flights here will be more expensive, and reaching Harpers Ferry will take much longer by car.
  • For those wanting to explore the southwestern part of West Virginia, consider booking a flight to Yeager Airport first, then booking a connecting flight to Raleigh County Municipal Airport (BKW). Flights from out of the state will be far more expensive than flights from within West Virginia.

Flight was delayed due to crew being not on time

Flight crew issues delayed my flight by 2 1/2 hours. Causing me to miss my connection.

The staff on board and gate was nice - a welcome change from the usual. We also arrived early, which was a great benefit, given that it takes 30 minutes plus to get bags at SRQ.

The staff was frielndly. The plane was terrible, it was too small and should be decommissioned. There were no back seat screens at all. The only beverages we had a choice from was coffee, tea or water. The only bathroom in the back was behind the flight attendant's jump seat and wasn't working. And I literally felt like I was sitting on top of the guy next to me. It was terribly hot in the plane and we had to sit on the tarmac in Chicago for 1/2 hour due to congestion in Mpls. Wouldn't they have know that before they even boarded us so that we could have sat in comfort in the terminal?

Never got on it. Was re-routed through Detroit and am still in airports 12 hours later waiting for my connecting plane to arrive.

Delta has too many delays now days. It is 1:06 am now. I was supposed to land in Norfolk at 10:30 pm. I got re-booked through Detroit and I’m still in Detroit. I hope to be landed in Norfolk by 3am. I’ve been in airports for 12 hours as of right now. There is a weather delay now but most delays lately have been maintenance.

Very Very late. Subsequent flights left an hour before ours

This is my worse experience with Delta. My colleagues and I were traveling to ICT for work. Usually we connect in Dallas, but this year we decided to book with Delta and connect in Atlanta. We were excited to fly with Delta because we hear great things and Delta is one of my top choices when choosing an airline for travel. On the connecting flights to and from Wichita/Atlanta - it felt hot and uncomfortable on the plane. The plane to ICT was smaller and older and did not have any wi-fi or entertainment. The most terrible experience was at boarding in Atlanta both times traveling to Wichita and then back to Tampa. First on our flight from ATL to ICT - the attendant scanning our boarding pass made us go back to the line when we went up to scan our passes to wait. After a few minutes, she allowed us to come back up to scan but then she asked what boarding zone we were. We told her zone 5, and since we were standing on the wrong side of the small rope partition, she made us go back to stand on the right side. There was another gentleman that came up to board and scan his pass, and she mentioned he was also on the wrong side but she let him go through. Our group had to walk back and forth for no reason, causing an unnecessary delay to board the plane. We have never experienced anything like this, especially when the boarding area was completely empty and everyone already boarded since boarding was earlier than the original boarding time. On our flight from ATL to TPA, the attendants scanning our boarding passes had us scan our passes twice, not explaining to us what was going on. They automatically started tagging our carry on bags and did not explain to us or tell us what was going on and why this was happening. Obviously we knew our bags were being forced to check in but with no reason. There was no announcement or mention and I have never had anyone force me to check in my bag before boarding the plane. We assumed the overhead bins were full but when we boarded the plane, there was a lot of empty bins and a lot of spaces to put our bags. We all were disappointed and frustrated with Delta and will be hesitant to fly Delta again or anytime soon.

Boarding and crew were fantastic, but I paid for a window seat with no window. Seat 11D on a CRJ-900 apparently does not have a window. Lesson learned.

Short flight so no entertainment and none expected or appropriate. Everyone I dealt with was professional and helpful. A good experience.

Love it. No Frills but better than Spirit No Frills. It's like a simple luxury private plane especially if you've got five or six people on it because then you probably got your own section of the plane.

All the staff were amazing! The flight was quick, everything went smoothly, I have nothing but good things to say about this flight. Thank you Contour!

It was easy, efficient from start to finish. The flight attendant was amazing. Smooth ride. It was just perfect.

We had a great experience on both of our flights! Crew was great…..the ride was smooth…and checking in was easy. We will definitely fly with them again.

This was my first time flying with Contour and the Greenbrier Valley Airport. It both were excellent and the price couldn’t be beat!

Not on time. Taxied around the airport for 30 MINUTES! The pilot never said a word. Ai

Great flight, professional crew, convenient and interesting nonstop routes. Had trouble with getting precheck listed on boarding pass, but found that customer service was remarkably responsive via email — unheard of with other carriers. A great experience overalll.

I felt like a sardine in my seat. We all did. The plane was so small that I hit my head on the roof when I stood up from my seat. The service was good and the crew were nice.

My luggage is missing and contour is doing a terrible service helping finding it. Unbelievable and the worst experience ever. I would love get my money back.

Everything was great except for the boarding process. Everyone is lining up all at the same time and it’s hard to tell between the groups as they are way too large.

Women boarding passengers at the gate was absolutely rude and disrespectful of passengers. The flight attendant was absolutely delightful! Smiling and connected with the passengers. So happy. The seats are cramped and uncomfortable but I guess that’s just the way it is Communication regarding flight was excellent

Overall we had a good experience during our flight from San Francisco to Houston.

Airport terminal was outdated, flight was on a small jet with no wifi

We were delayed for about an hour from taking off due to traffic control procedures at the destination airport. But once in the air, the flight went well. The crew members were great and provided cabin service despite moderate turbulence during much of the flight.

it was a very short flight so my expectations were low.

As great a red-eye flight as red-eye flights can be.

Very old flight - time to retire it for newer airplanes

2+ hours delayed Outlet in row 12 did not work Tv monitors did not work Lights kept off the entire flight for at 5pm-7pm flight

Very disappointing given gate agent behavior. Filed a formal complaint with United.

Never ontime and always delays. Long waits for customer service and often app doesn’t work

Arriving plane went to wrong gate. Flight Attendant was late. Was in no Hurry when he arrived. Flight was fine. Plane had to wait 20 minutes to get assigned a gate due to designated gate tied up. barely connected.. Boarded extremely late on final leg of trip.

We arrived 25 minutes early only to be told our gate was occupied and so we sat for close to 30 minutes to pull into a gate. That’s not an early arrival!

Experience was great. The best part is the free Wi-Fi connection which helps me to work on the flight

The gate agent had a really bad attitude and refused to help me get on the standby list. She just handed me a card and said I needed to call a number. I asked her to help with the AA app on my phone and she just shrugged and said she didnt know. After a few phone calls, I eventually just went to a different gate agent on the other side of the terminal and got the help I needed.

The TSA check in took 1.5 hours to get through in Austin and I missed my flights back to DC

As previously stated the delay I experienced flying from Wichita to Chicago caused a host of issues. When I finally was able to be booked on the last remaining American flight from Chicago to Cincinnati, the gate changed four times with the last change occurring very near the scheduled boarding time. While I didn't have a problem moving from gate to gate, I did notice and make note of others that had mobility issues and had to move each time for the gate change.

Overall, my last three trips on American Airlines have all been either delayed or "rescheduled" due to mechanical issues. At least on delay caused me to miss two possible connecting flights each later than the first. My last option for my last connection required the assistance of the onsite service desk (O'Hare Airport). The wait time for the service desk was such that it jeopardized getting booked on the last connecting flight available for the night. Suffice it to say, my latest experiences with American Airlines have caused me extensive loss of productive business and personal time and can therefore be classified as significantly less than satisfactory.

There was free WiFi (definitely a plus), but the flight was delayed 45 minutes waiting on a catering truck that never arrived. The pilot said there would be food vouchers given out at the end of the gangway to make up for the inconvenience, but there was no one offering those. Delay made me late for work!

Waiting for gate in RDU for more than 20mins is crazy.

Superb. Staff great. Great flight. As with other airlines, seating too tight and restrictive.

There is not one likable thing about this airline. It’s starts with the deceptive pricing and continues through the whole flight. The worst staff I’ve ever experienced way over priced bags absolutely no food or drink (unacceptable and you should be embarrassed) the seats are cramped and uncomfortable there is no entertainment there is nothing about this trash airline that constitutes any amount of money. It’s worse than spirit and way more expensive it is disgraceful. Do not travel with Allegiant I repeat do not bother no matter what they say the price is it is never ever going to be the right choice I’m mind blown at how awful the entire experience was I’m embarrassed that I chose so poorly I cannot reiterate enough how beyond horrible this company and its staff are, not one person on this flight or at the airport is qualified to sweep up trash on a city sidewalk they should certainly never be given any job that requires a brain or manners or communication with human beings, what a disgrace to the human race. Your criminal chiselers and should be put out to pasture

Great flight. Friendly staff. Free snacks and drinks would be nice. I would love fewer taxes and fees added on.

My 90 year old father flew with me. He needed wheel chair assistance and is nearly deaf. The staff was amazing with him.

It was fine. Nobody was outstandingly friendly but no one was rude and everything was smooth . The captain thanked us for flying but no one greeted me as I walked on the plane or as I exited which is the least they could do lol

Clean, friendly, roomy. But check-in from the phone link was terrible. Repeated attempts wouldn’t save at the final step. Just kept spinning! It was very frustrating. Finally, I used the app (vs website link) to check-in which worked very smoothly on the first attempt.

Check in on the web portal was cumbersome! After several attempts I finally got the boarding pass.

Excellent flight and even arrived 23 min early. No entertainment , or wi fi on board, but I downloaded a couple of movies beforehand which kept me entertained. Really like flying Allegiant airlines.

WE were delayed about an hour and never any communications from the employees working the gate. We also were moved to a total of three gates.

I love how they show love to their customers and care about them too.
