The quality of the hotel was very good, location was good but expensive area. There was no bar/coffee bar at the weekend. The room toilet had a clear glass wall and door which was an experience particularly when travelling with children.
Free Laptop in Room . Excellent idea. Good Breakfast. Bar. TV Channels choice poor - No English. Pay TV movies totally inadequate.
Location and service and great mini bar and wifi. Nothing. Very superlative.
I was very unimpressed with the service and the cleaness of the hotel.
no porter in the hotel.
I thought the hotel was very modern! No
The bed has this sexy blue glow coming from underneath it. Loved the ambience with the lighting. Definitely a good place for single solo traveler. . I'd stay again. Bed was kind of hard but not unbearable. Room was kind of small but fine for one or two people
The staff was excellent The hotel it self was kind of run down and although it was not dirty, because it was so run down the halls looked like they were dirty.
A good modern hotel in an established skin. Very close to Madrid's best shopping district and museums. I particularly like the fact that the hotel didn't charge for extras that others often do - like internet access etc. Being really picky - the lifts were painfully slow - but this shouldn't put anyone off.
the location is good, Brekfast was very poor all food looked old and not fresh. The Hotel inside is very dark.
Great set up for the family room.
it was in a great location! the bathrooms in the suites.... my friend and i were sharing rooms and the bathrooms are like a glass box so you see everything! weird!
Very classy hotel, and nice location if you like running (Retiro) and shopping Staff at reception is rather old-fashioned, not extremely service oriented and misses soem basic standard actiosns in their check list (like let the customer check the bill before paying etc). rest of the staff was OK !
The location was perfect, as well as the room and the whole setting of the hotel. It is a very nice hotel. Too bad that the Spa/Relax closes at 18.00 on Sutarday, and at 15.00 on Sunday! This is not 5 star service. Spa should be open until 21.00, at least.
Luxurious charming hotel wonderful location
Kabuki Wellington is worth a trip to the hotel on its own, though you obviously do not have to stay at the hotel in order to dine there. But being able to walk right upstairs after an amazing meal there is fantastic.
The hall and the dinning room. Fitness gym was great The carpets and the paper of the corridors looked very old
It has been my favorite hotel in Madrid for a long time, and it is still great.
excellent staff nothing
location excellent , staff good , quiet and relaxed atmosphere spa very poor and antiquated , swimming pool closed ,
We all loved our rooms and found the amenities to be terrific. Our beds were luxurious, with freshly pressed linen sheets. Who can ask for more, when coming from the desert in Morocco! Only one elevator in operation.
First time visit to Madrid and our visit was enjoyable from check in to check out. The staff was helpful, the room was what we had reserved, and the breakfast was fantastic. We had an opportunity to use the pool and the spa and it was a wonderful way to take a break from sightseeing. The hotel was located near the park and metro.
The room was really nice with lots of room for the extra bed. Staff were polite and efficient The TV channels were very limited. Not a single children's channel available, and the movie channels were not working
Broken bathroom furniture, peeling paint and no pool
The hotel and the room is very old..too old and there is no tea maker. It should be 3 starts...
big and spacious room, helpful staff
Very nice remodeled rooms Great location Staff and service was friendly and helpful Good air conditioning
Value and comfort Noisy as they were repairing the building beginning of July
It's good position
Quality and cheap service. Near to the metro. 1- Breakfast. Just outside the hotel there are two bar/pub where have a good breakfast and eat. 2- After the reservation by booking.com, i have wrote two mail to the hotel (to require a silent room), they never answered
We could smoke in the room. We were very close to the Palcia de deportes for concerts. The food at breakfast was poor.
Convencion Hotel is not more than a old style business hotel but......if an Hotel is made up especially for business .....how come WIFI SUCKS SO MUCH!??? They told me that for a "premium" connection I would need to pay 4 Euro a day. I did and my connection "upgraded" to 3mb/s.....are you f..ing killing me??? Leave this hotel for few more year until they will understand what is a "business" Hotel...Forgot about the garage....it is a mouse trap not a garage! Leave this Hotel for few more years until they will understand what does it mean being a Business Hotel. There are other Hotel around (Regina) at half a price and double value that this!!
A nice hotel, central location, with a good transport line.
Good location, easy to get to centre, metro and airport. Rooms are very basic for a 4 star property, and corridors are quite noisy in the morning. You need to ask for an extra pillow as the one in room is flat.
Good Location, friendly staff.
Location, location and location and offcourse the room comfort. busy reception
Excellent facilities. Excellent and efficent staff. Great breakfast buffet. Convenient to public transport, shopping, walking and all categories of dining. Modern with strong presence of traditional, quiet comfort. Reasonable prices for drinks and in hotel dining.
location concierge / assistance not on high standard as in another EU countries.
Very attractive, well located. Helpful staff. Construction outside in street, debris around.
I liked the decor and the location of the hotel. Rooms were a little small for a luxury hotel in comparision to the United States standards of luxury. Food was way-overpriced for what you got.
Everything from checking in to checking out. Will be booking again soon.
excellent service, excellent facilities and fantasic breakfast no complaints
The staff were very pleasant & very helpful. The location is very central to all the necessary activities. Very good value for the money. I have no hesitation to strongly recommend the hotel for my friends. Next time I'm in Madrid , I will be at Grand Melia Felix . Dr M. Mamdouh Aker , Urologist & Commissioner General for ICHR,Palestine honestly, neither my wife ,nor myself have anything to complain of
Central location and good bedrooms. The bathrooms are far too crammed and small. We had to move rooms as first one was far too small and unclean. M&R in bathroom poor.
the special price for 2 nights!
Nice area only 35 mins walk to park retriro
good location for getting to and from airport but overpriced and cramped
Hotel position and good price
I like the small size of the hotel, quietness, no noise from neighbours, good modern design, comfort, new furniture and bed linen. The size of rooms could be bigger. There was no bath in the room only the shower. The hotel staff is polite but not well trained (for example VAT shall not included in the hotel bill during check out if booking is made via www.booking.com site). More information in the hotel shall be provided about city attractions, restaurants etc.
The comfort and cleaniness of the room. The staff was excellant. The open plan style of the bedroom/bathroom needed to be adjsuted to.
quite and relaxing
great size of room the toilet was across the room from the sink--makes it tough to wash hands. Also, no doors between room and shower area, makes it tough for those sharing a room who don't want to be so exposed, like grandmother and grandson!
At 5:40 in the morning intruders entered our room as we slept. They entered with flashlights through a side door and only left when we began screaming. It was a terrible experience. The hotel's reception seemed very surprised but did nothing to reassure us that we were safe there.
Staff helpful but not intrusive. Room was modern and airy. Very large comfortable bed. Breakfast good quality
We liked the baythroom set up and the comfort of the linens and beds
Very Clean & well designed. Bed was super comfortable. We liked the location. Located in quiet & beautiful area. Nice walking through the Park to Prado Museum.
Nothing Small pokey room with inefficient air conditioning. Indifferent staff. Very expensive mini bar ie 5EUR for a small bottle of water. Would definately not stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Stay regulary at 5* Hotels around the world and this has to be classed as medicore 4* at best.
Excellent location. Beds very comfortable. Hotel still not fully open and noise of workmen woke us in the morning. Bathroom wash area actually in the room not standard 5 star - no desk area.
Location, bellboy service, Expensive, old rooms, poor service, low water pressure of the shower, not worth the money..
The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location just perfect - right in the city centre.
The location of the hotel, and the bathrooms in the rooms were very nice and very spacious There was very little storage space in the rooms and they were a bit small.
the locatiin is perfect. accesible to transportation. beautiful place. the matress is kinda hard and it's in a flatform type of bed. it shifts everytime we move and we have to keep adjusting and fixing the matress back to it's position. overall the place is nice.
Convenient location, helpful staff, nice room. Our first room had a blocked shower, which had wet the rug. So we moved. That room then had a broken towel hook. Seemed odd for such a new facility.
Great location in a nice high end neighborhood, full of boutiques and also very convenient to main tourist attractions, like El Prado, Cibeles, Paseo de la Castellana.
Location. the room is very small but well appointed. The room is quite small.
Had problems with the WiFi; no leisure facilities
well located, close to the Serrano metro station
Good location, at walking distance almost all things I wanted to visit. I loved the Salamanca area, good for shopping and eating no fitness center
The excellent location close to subway and the interior design Rooms to the street are rather noisy due to missing anti-noise features
The location, quiet, and the room was clean. Metro is close by, and easy to access from airport. The staff on reception desk is not informative. No maps were provided. The breakfast is fair, good quantity, but too expensive for the quality. The signal quality of Internet is fair, free if you use you own computer, or with an extra cost of you use their computers and printers.
The location Cleaning services and the age of the hotel
Nice and clean room. Great location. Quite street.
very good breakfast: lots of fresh fruit and jamon :) good location in Salamanca district. We booked a special offer with late check-out and free minibar which was great. My high evaluation of value for money of this hotel is based on the special offer we booked (80 euros a night with breakfast included). However, when we asked about the price for our next stay in september, we were told the same room would cost 160 euros, which is too much for the amenities you get. In my opinion, this is a good 3stars hotel, but no more than that.
the location is very good near the centre of the city. good transports both metro and bus. it is an experience to do again the staff are very rude and not helpfull. there is no parking although it says on the hotel site and staff don't care about this problem where they were asked for information
very nice stary , good service. The 2 adult establishments on either end of the hotel are a turn off
Outstanding accommodation. Well located hotel for our needs and very near two Metro stations which met all our travel requirements around town. Short ride to all museums, art gallerries etc and short walk to great shopping outlets in Serrano. No on site parking available and street parking limited to one hour
Quiet hotel, pleasant staff. We were offered a selection of rooms Surrounding location was quiet but not very interesting
The attention to detail of each guest's requirements.
The staff were very pleasent and helpful
nice interior room cleaning was late
excellent central place for shopping very poor number of TV chains
Central, clean and nicely decorated. Staff were very pleasant
the family room is perfect to travel with family and child and the espectacular ubication no nothing
Different to the run of the mill hotels. Location was excellent.
Central location Overpriced for the facilities
easy access and clean with friendly staff, intersting interior and nice open area for guests A little noisey at night due to disco accross the road
Ideal location to access galleries and shops. Good access to the metro means ease of travel through the city. Salamanca is a charming and quality neighborhood close to wide range of restaurants. In room computer a bonus too.
the atmosphere and style of the hotel was excellent only thing i did not like was a bed in room. Pure design but not comfortable.
the fact that shower wasnt functioning
It was a great experiance in total nothing to mention
The staff of the hotel were nice and curtious. The hotel location was excellent for shoppers. None
Its proximity to the city center and shopping areas. No
The way we were received. The concierge was excellent .Breakfast svc was very good and i loved the bar
the hotel were new & amazing decore , friendly staff , nice neighbour hood no concierge & we had to wait standing for the call up taxi , no much options for breakfast though the lay out for it was amazing
Well located for us, extremely friendly and helpful staff, good value, clean comfortable room
Fine location in zona salamanca
Location, room size, cleanliness of our room Hotel staff not of the quality of a five star hotel. The exact same breakfast all 5 days
the location I'm not sure we got the room we booked. Hotel staff said it was not a standard room but a deluxe one. I'm sure they cheated. The room had nothing special.I'm really disappointed
The location is quite good, near lots of nice boutiques, retiro park and not too far to walk to the prado, handy for the airport metro, get no 8 to colombia ,change to no 9 to nunez de balboa ,get out at plaza marques de salamanca and walk to the hotel about 15 mins, thats just one change.Staff are very nice and we were offered a drink on ckeck in,nice reasonably priced restaurant nearby(oter epicure)other cafes and lovely food market just close by, even though the hotel is modern,it lacked any kind of atmosphere, there is no bar area, the breakfast room wasnt inviting,we did not have breakfast as it was too expensive.i would expect a 5 star to have more facilities such as spa,
The best service&staff i have experienced ever. Breakfast an amazing surprise. The suite just blew our mind with its amenities. Location excellent. Our bed was not a double, but a twin, although we finally couldnt tell the difference.
We had a huge room, which was beautiful. However, we probably would not pay the 'asking price' had we not found a bargain online. The decor is nice, it is spotless, and bed very comfortable, the a/c fabulous, the bathroom great, the breakfast interesting and definitely big. Very tasteful. They need a ramp for suitcases - there is a staircase entry in the front. There is no decent chair in the room if you need to work at the desk or computer. Very very uncomfortable, too high for the desk also, so not practical or helpful in that regard. The breakfast is quite darling, about 20 things on a tray brought to each guest at the table or in the room. However, it is exactly the same every day except for a change in the fruit. We were there 5 days.
location. nice hotel untrained staff. no telephone directory. no help given. brochure stated free video library - did not have one. staff could not understand how to use video machine
Good location - 5 min walk to metro. Great breakfast however not cheap. Not worth the money. More a 4 star hotel. Nice room however we could hear some noise on the corridor outside our room.
Very clean rooms and excellent access to metro and city facilities. Very hot rooms and even on 8th floor we could her the disco beneath hotel
Location Impersonal service. Having to have our room keys reactivated every, single time we left the hotel and never receiving an apology from the staff for this continual inconvenience
convenient location, easy access from/to the airport, friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast buffet
Cleanliness&location Superior rooms were not in my opinion the quality of a 4****hotel
Good location Think there should be a B & B rate too
The staff was amazing, ever helpful, polite, friendly, all the way down to the baggage guys. It was a bit noisy because of the disco below, had a room higher up but it didn't have a view of the street so my mom had us change. Otherwise excellent choice!
Great location to Metro. Nice Size Bathroom.
good location very profesional staff
Clean, fairly spacious rooms, interesting design elements, friendly & helpful staff, good location. A bit expensive but perhaps typical for the area; the fitness room was not very functional, with several machines not working.
Very central, nice staff, and the rooms are clean, contemporary in design and functional. The lobby could use some more warmth and appeal.
The location in a quiet , lovely area of Madrid was great. Metro right outside door but could also easily walk to all sights in city centre. Hotel staff very friendly and let us check in early after long night flight.
The hotel's location was very good. We also liked the rooms, and we could sometimes open the window for fresh air. no
The location dark room, little small
The location. No front lobby.
Clean, quiet, very centrally located. Good value for money and a very good breakfast! I would definitely stay here again.
Localization Staff should be more gentle.
The Young lady on the Reception (early evening) when we arrived on 14th September 2010 was very helpful and friendly, the young waitress who was in the dining room for the buffet breakfast was very attentive and is a credit to the Company, she remembered what we liked for our breakfast and was very helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good. The Hotel was fine, I wouldn't call it a luxury hotel, but for a short stay was adequate. Although the furniture is considered to be modern, I feel that it could do with a little attention. Otherwise we had a good stay and would return again should we find ourselves in Madrid. The only thing that I found was that the dark brown of the furniture in the bedroom made the room a little oppressive but otherwise it was fine, the room was a good size and two big windows.
The staff were all polite and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was great. The air conditioning did not get very cold. It was quite dark in my room due to it looking out onto an innner courtyard. Decor ddn't help as lots of dark wood.I would have liked tea and coffe making facilities.
Close to Colon Centro. Pretty quite neighbourhood. Very good prices in the Hotel Restaurant!!! 20euro for 3meal course with good food. Internet only in one shared facility and 2euro for 10minutes is very very expensive.
The room was clean and enough big to stay 3 nights. The hotel is in very near to city center ir was easy to make city tour.
the location is very good
Location Stairway, lobby to elevator, awkward with heavy luggage.
Pool and Terrace with lounge chairs. Excellent location in Salamanca, convenient to several Metro stations. Nice shops in the area. The lobby staff are very nice. Room was very small, and the bedding wasn't the most luxurious. The maid service is questionable. After two days, I still didn't have enough soap and shampoo left. They only started giving me enough soap and shampoo when I left a tip along with a note requesting more soap and shampoo. There was 30 min free wifi for use in the lobby, but you had to pay extra for internet in the room...BOOKINGS.com did not indicate this and I thought internet was included until after I already paid. The pool girl is shady. When I told her I'd pay in cash instead of charging me meal to my account, she told me the total was 22 euros, and I tipped her 2 euros. I checked and the menu was 14 euros. She basically ran away with 10 euros in pocket.
Lovely comfortable room with a view of the Plaza Colon. 20min walking of the centre.
The beds aren't goods
Very good value for money.
good value for the price; location was good
Comfort In the end some extra charges, but that mistake was resolved imediately
Position in the city A little bit old. Need to be rechaped
location and comfort of the room/shower and bed internet at extra cost
Staff friendly, excellent breakfast, good location.
Great breakfast service, plenty to choose from. Bath articles were very good. Hotel in a great quiet location with many restaurants near by and close to the Metro Station. Easy to walk to Colón, Cibeles, and even to Prado Museum. We were give two interiors rooms with no views and little natural light. I think the hotel should mention upon reservation the kind of room they were giving us. Also, the rooms were for smokers, even though we have a non-smoking preference, and we were not contacted by the hotel. In one of the rooms we could smell the smoke. Although it is mentioned in the description, the hotel does not have a restaurant, only a bar that serves some (bad) meals and at a very expensive price (we paid 50 euros for 4 "canned" and small bolognesi and water).
great location, it's recently been renovated and it's clean and modern
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for shopping. Quiet neighbourhood. Nice stroll from hotel to Prado museum through El Retiro park.
Location was great
The location of the hotel is excellent, the area is beautiful and full of shops and good restaurants. The staff of the hotel is completely useless. The internet service is terrible and you cannot expect some of the people in the reception to help you as the “internet service is provided by a third party”. Some of the staff can be rude and they don’t know much about client service. The rooms are small. Be aware of the cleaners because they don’t knock on the door before going into your room to clean it up. All in all not a great experience.
Not too far from the metro station Velazques. Good wireless connection, however you have to pay around 10 Euro for 24h. Good dimensions of bedroom and bathroom. Coffee machine in bedroom would be appreciate as well as more TV channels.
The hotel room temperature was a bit low and I was not able to set the comfort level myself as the control unit was not in operation.
location rooms are small
the rooms were a bit old, the hotel needs reinovation
It was a very large room, which was very clean and comfortable.
Everything was fine except the air-conditioning system. We couldn't sleep at night because of the warm. That was unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. Definetaly the air-condition system.
Friendly and helpful staff, fantastic breakfast, nice area close to shopping and metro.
away from the croud no view from the hotel room
it's a really nice hotel and the rooms are really spacious the hotel is extremely overpriced... i stayed in a similar hotel the night before for only 55 euro... have a look at some other ones before you decide... also their dinner was 32 euro!!! outrageous if you ask me
Services and facilities
The Hotel was excellent, I would certainly stay again. Very comfortable and clean and always a taxi waiting out front. The only negative point was when lots of Guests were waiting to check in or check out, that usually only one person was serving and other staff members were busy with their computers but not helping. That happened to me at check in, I had to wait at least 15mins to get my key.
very nice & clean rooms Internet didnt work, some noice from room upstairs
The design of the hotel is really good, and up-to-date. The room is not really sound proof, and I could smell smoke inside my room. The door did not isolate correctly.
They were friendly and accomodating, location was very good
Located in in central Madrid and very close to the Metro-this place is great value-the room was very comfortable-I would stay here again...
the agradable ambient, decoration, room comfort, choise of pillows it was not possible to stop taxis in front of the main entrance, very desconfortable because of the luggages,
Nice price and well located (in city center) and very good Hotel. Rooms too small.
Personel are very helpful and the location, close to the metro, is very good. The hotel was noisy, you could hear the neighbours and the AC.
The ac was not working. As we arrived to check-in the receptionist wasn't friendly. The hotel did not have a pool. They gave us double beds but they were put together as if it was a king size. Suppose if two people men don't want to sleep in the same bed? They charged me for laundry service and did not tell me how much in the beginning. I just asked for an iron. Parking for charged at an outrageous price (maybe this is in the whole city like that)...
The Bar across the street n/a
far from the center but you have the subway right in front of the hotel
The staff was wonderful and very accomodating. I became ill while staying at the hotel and they bent over backwards to find me a doctor that visited the hotel who spoke English. Even though they were sold out for one of the nights I was sick, they let me stay in the room and handled the sold out problem in a wonderful manner. Great service and the management needs to be commended on their staff.
We particularly enjoyed the restaurant food. The breakfasts were first class and the evening Executive menu and a la carte food were very good value Spanish cuisine freshly cooked for us at the early (by Spanish standards) hour of 8 pm. Disappointed not to be able to use the garden but the weather was too cold.
Great location . Excellent breakfast which we all enjoyed , 4 of us aged 79 down to 20 years of age !!! Very pleasant staff. Bathrooms could do with an upgrade and more staff required at reception especially in the morninf for check out.
Good place for sightseen and shopping. Very guiet and comfortable.
kitchen included, excellent location, less noisy than average, good breakfast nothing
Beautiful room; lovely buffet breakfast; friendly and helpful staff; beautiful facility with courtyard restaurant; couldn't be better located. A+++ Not a thing
Excellent location, near Retiro, Serrano and museums, with good restaurants, etc nearby. Small comfortable hotel with helpful staff. Pleasant garden/ terrace area (though unfortunately not in winter).
Very fine hotel with large rooms. Quiet location in city center. Rather thin walls between the rooms
the position of the hotel is great, in a quiet street but very close to the centre of the city.
location, friendly staff, superb standard of room breakfast was not brilliant
Location. Great hotel staff and very nice rooms.
location, bar but it should be no smoking. confusion of reception staff, sign in one at a time. luggage taken up to wrong room. no seats in reception area to wait for fellow guests. restaurant at dinner limited menu but especially deserted/empty on 2 nights. so lacked ambiance and feeling of self indulgence. and food was dried out because of lack of customers on second night. Inexpensive wine OK.
location elevator is not at lobby floor
As a businesman there is little to recommend the Hotel Gran Velazquez, but for shopping then it is well placed. The hotel represents very poor value for money, telephones did not work well and simple errors in billing were annoying. The air conditioning did not work and the hotel is tired and shabby in places.
friendly staff, excellent location, excellent room expensive Internet
Both rooms I booked were next to elevators and the noise didn't let us sleep! The breakfast was of poor quality. Most of the personnel didn't speak english. The central heating in one of the rooms didn't work and in the other room the flash in the wc didn't work properly!
the location of the hotel was really good within walking distance to the main shoppin area. breakfast was good fair selection and being refilled on an ongoing basis. hotel reception staff seemed unwillin to help with your questions. Room was very warm and asked for the heating to be turned down a bit so they just switched it off at the mains after being rude on the telephone to my mum.. charged for things out the mini bar that we didn't have.!!!
Rooms was really good we had an executive suite which had sitting room, bathroom was lovely and we had a balcony excellent room for money we paid.
no slipper in the room, no tienen zapatillas
one night AC are very bad
