NO CARS AVAILABLE - AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!
Cons: The rude lady at the counter will tell you WE DON'T HAVE CARS, TOO BAD YOU RENTED ONLINE, WE CAN'T BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT HAVING CARS - NOTHING ELSE, NOT EVEN A RECOMMENDATION OF WHEN THEY'LL HAVE CARS, WORTHLESS SERVICE AND ORGANIZATION.

I couldn't rent the car. The rep was clueless, the systems were down awful
Cons: Customer service rep was clueless. She did a manual rental for the people in front of me, but chose to take me through the system going in and out

Pros: The car was a good price and the rental center was convenient (no need to wait for a shuttle!).
Cons: The staff at the counter was not very helpful. They didn't really converse or give instructions on where to pick up the rental. Also, no on reviewed the car for damage with us and here was no way to report any that we had found.

Good experience after a tricky start
Pros: The car drove well, was clean, but most of all the price was fantastic
Cons: The car they gave me had CD controls but was missing the player. I needed to have the CD player; after driving an hour from the airport I realized the problem and had to drive back to exchange the car; they had some difficulty locating an economy car with a CD player.

Felt a bit swindled
Pros: The car was nice, though the blind spots on the KIA Sportage are kind of major.
Cons: The gas tank was only three quarters full and I was told it was full. I wanted to return to airport or call but my wife did not want me to waste time on a short trip. The woman at the desk was nice, but maybe overly nice. She told me that I reserved an economy car when I know I reserved a mini SUV. She then tried to sell me an upgrade to a mini SUV and said she would give me a deal on a 2017 Hyundai, or $5 per day. I agreed to it because I am a very big man and did not want to be stuck in an economy car. I later looked at the bill and it was $8 per day plus fees and it was a KIA Sportage not a Hyundai. The Kia also smelled a bit like smoke. So no this rental was not perfect and i felt a bit swindled.

No car available
Pros: Very friendly, good value
Cons: We arrived at the time of our rental reservation, and there was no car available. We were told we would have to wait at least an hour, or pay over $30 for a larger car. We ended up booking a different company on the spot!

Low tire pressure, car not clean
Pros: The staff were very responsive when I told them of the issues
Cons: I had to roam around the lot to find the car, there was writing in wax crayon on one of the windows, saying "needs to be cleaned". And there was multiple "low tire pressure" alarms, triggering the check engine light. Once I told the staff about the alarms, they took the car and added pressure to the low tires, which fixed the alarms. But it held me up by ~20 minutes and it could have been remedied before I ever picked up the keys.

Cons: Agree with commenter that very long wait, and employee made little effort to move quicker or explain to those in line reason for such slow processing. Meanwhile, and quite obvious in Memphis as all car rental companies lined up at same location, processed their customers MUCH quicker. Overall car was fine as was value, but soured by initial processing that simply was not what one wants as they come to a city, and look to see a smiling face and prompt service.

Pros: Price was spot on! Really helpful
Cons: Wish they had an option to pay by the hour for late returns - almost missed my deadline because of traffic! Digital copies of active contracts would also be helpful

Pros: Newer car, although i was second in line it took 15+ min before i could be assisted which was minor compared to my 7 hour flight delay and lost bag ( see AA for that review). Car was clean and seemed to be an upgrade from what i originally reserved (hyundai accent

Cons: Got to the airport, have him our registration info. He pulled it up, scanned my card and said it declined. I called my card company and they said it had never been ran. He told us he couldn't run it again for 24 hours. We walked next door to Hertz, gave her the same card and it went through just fine. We will NEVER use this company again. We were stranded at the airport for almost 2 hours because of them.

No cars available despite having reservation
Pros: Nothing absolutely nothing
Cons: I showed up at the counter. I presented my confirmation number. The employee told me that there were no cars available for rental. She said she was all sold out. I reminded her that I had a reservation and that I had made that reservation several weeks prior. She said that a reservation does not guarantee a vehicle. I was always under the impression that if I have a reservation that guaranteed me a vehicle. My experience with Payless has been absolutely awful. I will never rent from Payless ever again. And I will tell all of my friends and colleagues about my very, very, very negative experience with Payless. What is the point of making reservation, if having reservation does not guarantee you a vehicle?

Pros: nice, clean car. I booked it for the wrong starting date but the woman at the counter was gracious and go my rental straighten out.

Cons: After reserving the car through online, enter my credit card information and receiving an authorization that the rental was set up , I arrived to pick up the car and their was no car available for me and their were 4 people in front of me waiting on a car. I ended up having to rent from another companies and had no hassles .

No car. No contact number for Kayak. No Kakak conf
Pros: Nothing. It was a nightmare
Cons: I will never rent from Kayak again. I had a one way rental thru Payless and when I went to pick it up Payless said they don't do one way rentals. There was no Kayak contact number to call. And I could not reach anyone from kayak either on the phone or the internet because the only confirmation number was a Payless one.

Pros: No problems extending my rental days. Good customer service. Car was new and clean.
Cons: Had to wait a while for person to rent me the car. Apologized and was very nice though.

Pros: Rental process was simple. Car was new and in great condition. Had no issues with this entire transaction. Plus, Payless saved us some money. In Memphis they are located right along Avis, but we would have spent more booking an Avis rental car. Have used Payless several times with no complaints.
Cons: In Memphis, it's a good little walk from Rental Cars to terminal, but that's just the way it is!

Horrible 1st time experience
Cons: The rental agent at the counter in Atlanta was rude and only cared about regurgitating the policy and could care less that I'd had a traumatic experience. I was on a business trip and had a blow out, and when I went to exchange the car to make it back home to the Memphis area, I had the worst customer experience in my 41 years of life at the Payless counter by the supervisor Lisa. She wouldn't even give me her last name! I will NEVER use this company again nor will I be using AVIS either because they are the parent company. I went to Alamo after this ordeal and they got me on the road again in minutes.

Cons: There was only person at the check-out counter. When I returned the car, the system was down and I never received a final receipt. Now I am trying to find out why my credit card was charged $144 more than it should have been and I'm getting nowhere. No one even answers the number given for the local office. The whole experience was disastrous!

Cons: That was the worse experience I have ever had. We waited in line for 45 minutes with one person ahead of us. We were told the system was down and the "one" girl that was working was new and she couldn't get anyone to help. So we went to Thrifty car rental and they were very accommodating and nice. So I will never use Payless again!!!!

Cons: Had a reservation but when I get there they said that they were out of cars and I would have to wait 2 hours as the girl behind the counter just laughed as she said it. I went somewhere else and will never use them again.

Cons: Took over an hour to receive the car seat. Car ended up having a bent axel because rear tire had extreme uneven wear. Customer service is pretty much nonexistent. They tell you to call the place where you rented it from, but they never picked up(over 2hours) and the mailbox was full. Had to switch out cars and it was a really big pain. I was in another city but to even get it approved was extremely hard. Bad experience. The deposit is as much as your rental cost, which is crazy as most places just charge $50 for deposit then bill you at the end. They set a pending charge of double my rental cost.

2nd time getting dropped off at airport to pickup
Pros: I will not use Payless again
Cons: Payless is the only carrier at airport with NO SIGNS DIRECTING WHERE TO FIND THEIR COUNTER. Other custimers Arrington from flights and being told NO CARS.

Good for what I paid
Pros: It was cheap and reliable
Cons: The bumper was messed up, the car wasn't clean when I got to it, and it didn't have cruise control!
