The website allowed me to book the car rental for 5 pm. Well the rental place closed at 5pm! I got there after 5 pm and was not able to get the car. I called Avis and they said I needed to get there by 4:59pm to get the car rental. I had to go all the way to the airport which made the rental more expensive than it already was. The lady at the counter was very rude. The no debit card rule for renting a car from an airport location is ridiculous, Not all of america lives off of credit cards!

The staff in Seattle (pick up location) didn’t honor the reservation. We book a bmw suv, but he was going to give me a 4 doors sedan, a much smaller car. His excuse was that they didn’t have the suv I booked. He said I either get a smaller car or he would cancel my reservation. I asked him if I could talk to his manager but he was rude and waked away. He walked back 5 minutes later and said he checked but there was still no suv. He sternly said if I didn’t like the smaller car, he would cancel my reservation and stated I had no other options. I once again said if he didn’t give me the suv I booked I would report him to kayak since he wouldn’t let me talk to his manager. He then realized I wouldn’t give in so he finally gave me the suv I booked. His excuse was that the car wasn’t available earlier. However, he also gave me the option earlier if I wanted the suv, I would have to pay more. The car was obviously there the entire time but he didn’t want to honor my reservation. It was the worse experience I ever had with a rental car company. I couldn’t pick up the car until 45 minutes later than my reservation

The downtown location was horrible. The guy working the counter was great. But they made me walk up the ramp to the 4th floor, walk through a bunch of cars that were parked in the driveway that were very close to each other. Then my car was so tight to the next car I don't know how I even squeezed my body into it. Hurt my back doing so. My paperwork said the car was full but it was 2/3 tank Then I had to drive the wrong way down the ramp to leave the garage. Drop off was very confusing once I got to where they were in the garage. They just had you leave the keys on dash and walk away.

The staff member was not pleasant. Tried to sell and after declining he refused service.

Cons:

Fire him. Clearly he was having a bad day or just doesn’t like his job. He should be fired or put in the back where he is away from customers.

Fox staff were unable to assist in identifying pre-existing damage to the car. The parking lot attendant refused to acknowledge existing damage requiring the renter to return to the upstairs counter to talk to a "manager". The exit gate attendant required a five minute conversation before she would simply initial the damage report form acknowledging existing damage. The check-out process took 40 minutes when it could have taken 10. The check-in process was quick and efficient. The Fox employee was present immediately upon pulling up, confirmed my identity, and quickly processed the return.

The car was clearly a former Uber with the permit and "this ride might be recorded" stickers. Something oily was sprayed on the inside of the windshield making it very hard to see and when I tried to clean it it got streaky and worse- I used Windex and then a kitchen cleaner and it was still difficult to see through the streaks to the point where it was unsafe. The car also had paint pen writing on the rear drivers side window which I had to scrape off. The interior smelled like someone tried really hard to cover up stale smoke.

Their team were understaffed, under supplied and crabby at pickup. There was a noticeable deficit of “normal” cars, and they were often trying to convince people who had booked economy to take a mini van. On return I needed to adjust by 30 minutes to accommodate flex in a travel schedule, and their phone staff were dismissive and rude. They charged me a silly fee, despite the fact that when I arrived, the location was CLOSED, so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. I will NOT be using Hertz again.

I rented the car in March. When i got to the pick up spot - in July - there was no one there at the office. Literally, no employees showed up. When i called Hertz, they said "find another reservation." Zero respect for customers. None whatsoever. Unbelievable. Never again.

I have forgotten my notebook in the rental car. Within1 hour of return I went back to rental location and car was rented back. The lady at the counter noted down car, descritipn and my phone number. It has been more than 10 days no one called back. I tried to call back but no response. There is no lost/found mechanism. Even though there is no monetary value to anyone of my notebook; it was important to me. Rental car company needs to have better mechanism

Cons:

After we got on the road I realized that the tires were extremely worn. We were hydroplaning on the rainy freeway and it was quite scary. The car smelled like cigarettes and there was trash from the previous user in the center console.

When I was picking up the car they tried to up sell me 3 times. Then they offered me a soccer mom minivan and wanted to charge me $70 more. I finally just had to say I want to car I had rented to I could get out of there.

Couldn’t Rent rhe car and my card got charged twice .. very very poor experience Kayak and appears there are so many intermediaries that no one actually cares about the customer .. utter rubbish! I have to follow up and chase my money and eventually booked directly with Avis .. not going to use your platform ever again. It’s all a joke! And I am sure no one who actually cares will do anything about it so not sure why you do these surveys and waste time !!!
