Pros: Quick service for pick up and drop off. Personnel weee nice and friendly.
Cons: Car was filthy, inside and out. It wasn't cleaned beforehand. Also, the fuel was full.

Horrible staff and service
Cons: It took us over 2 hours to rent the car. Counter staff was rude and unhelpful. We will never again rent from this company!

The car was great, but I was not made to feel welc
Cons: The staff were not particularly friendly and did not appear to be well-trained in customer service. When the credit card machine would not read my corporate card, the staff member was not particularly sympathetic about the situation and was prepared to end the transaction without my rental. Apparently this is corporate policy now, because she had no way to key in my card number, but she wasn't friendly or understanding about it.

Dollar, not so nice in Detroit
Pros: I chose to take a chance on the promotional special, an unidentified "Generic Vehicle", whatever that means.Upon arrival, you would get a Compact or larger. I ended up with a standard for compact price.
Cons: The car had nearly 50K miles on it. The only place on the car without some sort of damage was the hood. There was dangling plastic parts in the driver side wheel well, and needed a wheel alignment badly!

Pros: The car was clean and mechanically sound.
Cons: When I arrived at my destination to pick up the car there were 20 parties on line waiting to be served and only 2 tellers. The line moved very slowly and I had to wait almost 50 minutes to check in. And that line always had at least 20 parties waiting in it. 2 tellers was just not enough staff to handle the volume of people coming through this facility. This is the kind of thing that an organization with the resources that Dollar has available to it should be able to anticipate.

DTW Staff comes through
Pros: While the office closes at 1:00am on Sunday, the staff stayed to wait for our delayed plane to get in. I had chosen the Lock Low & Go rate (they choose the car) and after the employee listened to my needs assigned a great car. Drop off was fast and efficient, bus back to terminal left just as I walked up, but the driver stopped and waited for me.
Cons: Telephone support was not good. I tried several times to let DTW location know we were delayed, but could not get a number or communicate through the call center reps. Disappointed in this.

Pros: The only bright light in this experience is the manager, Paul, who helped me by escorting me to a different rental agency and personally spoke with their manager so that I would not be stranded after I was to tears for fear of being stranded. The Budget manager worked magic for me.
Cons: 1. Nowhere in my reservation was stated that I could not use my debit card to rent the vehicle I had reserved. Apparently this is a new policy brought into being since my last Dollar rental. 2. The counter clerk handed my card and reservation information back to me and stated smugly that I should have paid attention to the fine print. Seeing that I was near tears, she made no effort whatsoever, even with suggestions, as to what I could do. She clearly did not care that I was a three-hour drive from anyone that I knew. Low quality customer service. When I asked her for her manager, I wasn't even sure she would call him.

Pros: A nice new clean car
Cons: service at the desk was not accommodating, they were not helpful when dropping off and trying to handle several bags and a baby

Pros: It was easy to drop the car off and get a shuttle to the airport. It was quite expensive for two nights and three days.
Cons: It was difficult to have my husband drop me off at the car rental as there is no place to pull in for a non rental car.

Cons: When I arrived they told me that the surprise car of the day was a compact car and forced me to upgrade. Paid $24 a day more to get the full size car. I returned the car one day early since the business was done and they charged a early return fee.

Cons: The salesman that set me up spent a bunch of time trying to sell me more than I asked for. He applied several sales techniques to get more money out of me. It took a long time and although he was politelling he was pushy.

Pickup should not be such a hassle/layoff the insu
Pros: Price was competitive versus competitors.
Cons: Only 5 people ahead of me, 3 open registers and still took half an hour to pick up my car. I know my insurance coverage a lot better than your associate. Don't waste my time, your time, and other customers' time trying to convince me my insurance is inadequate. Let me sign the waiver and be on my way!

Cons: Dollar was not willing to honor the reservation because this location does not accept debit cards. Had I known that beforehand I would have booked with another company. Instead I got to walk around the Detroit airport looking for a rental company. It would help if Kayak added a disclaimer and a link to the rental location so people can check if there are policies in effect that impact their rental.

Salesperson was pushy
Pros: Car was great. Shuttle drivers were wonderful. Return check in person was very kind
Cons: Counter check in person was extremely pushy, in trying to get me to sign up for an incentive program that I declined. I was on my way to a funeral and he know it, but kept insisting that I needed to listen to him because he could save me money when I told him that I was not interest and just wanted to get to my funeral. It was very upsetting to me.

Pros: The girl at the counter in Detroit was fast and pleasant
Cons: Waited 30 min for shuttle and airport wasn't that busy. Returned car flint, guy was rude at counter. Very poor selection of cars. A small Toyota, is not a full size car.

Pros: I liked that the car was clean when we got it and drop off was easy.
Cons: The over all price ended up being twice the amount quoted by Kayak. It was too expensive for a tiny car. And it took about an hour to get the car from the time we checked in with the front desk.

Pros: The drop off staff was friendly and respectful as was the shuttle drivers.
Cons: I was charged double what I was quoted by Kayak when I got to the desk. The staff had no explanation for the difference just said the prices can vary from what one is quoted online at the time of reservation.

Pros: - Ease of rental - Value of rental - Assisted by Michelle King when she noticed that I was carrying more bags than I could handle; she rolled them for me up to the shuttle! She was definitely very helpful and gave me a very lasting positive impression of the rental agency.
Cons: - Counter staff need coaching on friendliness

Worst rental experience ever
Pros: Nothing was likeable.
Cons: The Dollar shuttle never showed up at the Detroit airport, and it was really cold outside, so a shuttle driver from a rival company offered to drop us off as it was on his route. When we got to the Dollar/Thrifty rental place, there was one agent working the counter----at 6 PM the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The line was huge, and people at the front of the line told me they had been waiting for over two hours. When customers got upset the Dollar representative screamed and threatened to cancel their reservations. People repeatedly asked to speak to a manager and they refused to locate one. I used my smartphone and booked a car with a rival company for $300 more and walked over to their building and only waited five minutes in line. I must have seen 10-15 other families/individuals do the same thing once they saw the abysmal situation at Dollar. I will never book a car with Dollar again.

Cons: I wasn't able to rent a car from Dollar,because of their new policies against using debit/credit cards. Additionally, Dollar wanted to charge a $350 deposit for a $78 rental. I was forced to find another company to rent from at 1 am. Very disappointed!!!

Everything good except the false price
Cons: Kayak said the price would be about $79, and it ended up as about $89. Kayak said it would be $20 per day, and Dollar charged $25. I'm not if this is Kayak's or Dollar's fault, but either way, that sucks.

Go to Alamo instead.
Cons: Go to Alamo instead. Dollar tricks you into saying yes to insurance that is not mandatory. For me, that resulted in a rental cost that was nearly three times what appeared in the online reservation. Then they hold an additional $200 on your credit card. So, had I been stupid enough to carry out the transaction, the $103 charge I was expecting became a $500 hold on my card. I said no thanks and went to Alamo, where they don't hold the additional charge and they don't try to trick you into insurance that heavily inflates the rental cost. The charge they submitted at the time of the reservation was the real, actual final charge. They're also really nice and they give you bottled water (Alamo, NOT Dollar).
