Kayak states in terminal pickup/dropoff: not true
Cons: Car was smelly, line was slow, car pickup and return was Off site. If Kayak had stated that correctly, i would have chosen another company to rent from. I am not going to rent thru Kayak again.

Nobody manning the counter
Pros: We never got a chance to rent the car we reserved so there is nothing I like about the whole experience.
Cons: We reserved a car with Payless. Our flight was a bit late coming into the airport and we headed directly to the Payless counter and there was no one there. They closed. Fortunately the other rental companies had cars available so we gave them our business. We had to pay more but the low price is meaningless if there is no one behind the counter and no car to rent. Next time I rent a car I will NOT be doing business with Payless.

Cons: I rarely write reviews, but my experience was so terrible I feel obligated. I reserved a car with a planned pick up time of 11pm. My flight landed at 11 and the desk was in the terminal. Made it to the counter by 11:20 to find a sign stating that they were closed, with a phone number to call between the hours of 4am and 11pm for assistance. This clearly wasn't going to be useful to me, but I tried calling anyway with no answer. I was left without a car for my 50 minute commute and the other rental counters had limited availabilities and/or no price matching. This was such an inconvenience and was exacerbated by the fact that it was late and I was traveling alone. They should have never given the option for an 11pm pick up time if they intended to close at 11. I will never rent from this company again.

Payless at Reno airport
Pros: The car was exactly as I anticipated. No surprises.
Cons: I had to refresh the air in two tires three times in two days (hence "okay" for comfort). I told the drop-off attendant about this problem, but saw no sign that she passed on this news. Next renter will have the same problem.

Pros: It was double the price I was quoted when they added insurance. Probably my fault to accepting the insurance but even the basic was $25 per day. Lots of other fees they rattled off that were hard to understand and figure out.
Cons: It is a budget operation but with pleasant staff. Car was clean but smelled a bit.

Pros: good car for what we needed. comfortable. Good upgrade options. Return was quick
Cons: registration took long time shuttle took even longer to get to car... Car was a little beat up, but they did note all the damage on rental form so we wouldn't be charged.

Pros: The people at the desk and lot were very nice and made the rental part of the process very easy.
Cons: The car had over 20K miles and the shocks were terrible. The interior smelled, and when I rented the car it was supposed to be a Grand Cherokee type. I had to pay for an upgrade to a Mitsubishi which I don't believe is above the class car that I originally rented. In addition, there were a lot of hidden fees that I felt should have been disclosed earlier in the transaction during booking through Kayak. I will not make this same mistake twice with either company.

Cheaper than competitors.
Pros: KIA Forte was the model we rented for 10 days in July at under $12 a day. It was a little underpowered on highway acceleration but got an overall 31+ npg.
Cons: Vehicle was quite dirty inside and out and had numerous areas of minor damage. When the a/c was turned on I noticed the center vent wasn't open and when I opened it a cloud of fine desert dust blew out filling the cabin.

Pros: Everything was great except they had very few people working at the pickup/dropoff. The lady drove the shuttle was giving out paper work and keys between trips. We stood around waited for her.

Pros: - We only dropped off in Reno; drop-off was fine - even though it isn't within the airport return area. It is at an off-site location. However, the shuttle was immediately ready to go when we did drop off and got us to the airport in short order.

Cars smelled like smoke and chemicals; not at term
Pros: Staff was friendly and helpful
Cons: The first car we were given smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Staff kindly changed the car for us (we have a 3 month old and really didn't want to expose him to the smoke). It smelled better at first, but after running the A/C, it was clear that the car had been smoked in and chemicals had been used to cover up the smell. We had to drive the whole week with open windows or get headaches. Kayak showed that the rental would be at the terminal in Reno, but a shuttle was required.

Payless is not located at the airport.
Pros: The suv was nice.
Cons: I did not like that we had to drive to Payless not knowing it wasn't located at airport. Also, the attendant was pushy on adding insurance and added on prepaid gas automatically to the initial receipt.

Major hassle, ended up using a different car renta
Cons: I wanted to pay for the car using my debit card, they swiped it and I told me that they do a "soft credit check" with debit cards and that they couldn't accept my payment. My credit is absolutely fine, because of this I was forced to use a different car rental company who also did a soft credit check and I was able to rent a car with no problems at all. The entire ordeal with Payless car rental was a huge inconvenience.

Pros: The price was a descent rate.
Cons: Never received the rental. My flight was delayed, so I called the attendant and he said he would be there till 11:30 p.m. I showed up at the rental counter at 11:20 and he had already closed the counter and left. He also took 2 hours to return my phone call the first time. I went with National next door and had a wonderful experience. Will never use Payless again.

Above and beyond
Pros: The service was easy to book, the driver was very friendly. He even came to meet me at the coffee house I was at instead of me having to walk to the Hyatt (the general pick up spot)
Cons: When I was booking online there were only two pick up times to choose from, more flexibility there would be great.

Cons: Couldnt rent my bank card that ive been a customer for 10 year's according to u guys didnt pass credit but my credit union that i have had for 9 months accepted but didnt have all the money on card. So payless said no went to dollar rental and the bank card that supposedly said no said yes there. I feel they should do over phone and tell you that. Lost a awesome customer rent cars often.

Cons: I was charged for the basic insurance on top of the insurance I purchased at the time of reservation - I will be calling to see if this can be reversed.

Beware: Counter closes at 11pm, despite letting yo
Cons: I booked the car for 11pm pickup but the counter was closed at that time. All other rental agencies were still open. There was a piece of paper with a number to call for after hours, I tried calling this number at least 20 times and nobody answered or called me back. Avoid Payless at all cost.

Pros: Upgraded to an SUV thinking it was 4x4; however, it wasn't. Payless took the upgrade charge off without even questioning. I appreciated their kind and fair service.

Great service with Reno Payless!
Pros: The Payless service was excellent. I really appreciated that they had a shuttle that would come pick me up/drop me off without having to wait for a long time. It came immediately when I needed it!
Cons: I wasn't a fan of the car, itself, but that has nothing to do with the Payless service, which is what I value more when renting a car.

In the end, they made it right.
Pros: Good customer service. Despite the initial shortcomings, they ultimately made it right in the end and ensured we were satisfied and in a safe vehicle. Prompt shuttle service to/from airport.
Cons: Booked online as 'Ford Focus or equivalent'. Told at time of pickup from airport that it's actually for a Ford Fiesta or similar compact car, which is much smaller than a Focus/equiv and was not what I had booked the rental under. Clerk made it right and gave us a free upgrade to that size range of vehicle. When we were presented with vehicle, Hyundai Elantra, front tires were at wear bars. Seeing as it's front wheel drive and we anticipated snow, this would not work. Looked at two other equivalent vehicles, tires also bald, some well beyond wear bars. Inquired about a different vehicle, small Jeep crossover with good tires all around, and employee offered it as free upgrade.

Cons: The first car they gave us had a tire that was bald down to the steel. While they were quick and easy about giving us a second car, this task took valuable time from our brief visit to our dying father.

do not rent a car from here!
Pros: I didn't like anything about this place.
Cons: As soon as I started the vehicle on the pay less lot the low tire pressure light came on as well as the change oil light. I drove off the lot at the assistance of my dad. I had paid for the rental for a week, dropped it off a day early and it got a low tire while in the lot. I was not refunded a daily rate nor was I refunded the daily insurance rate. I was also told that as soon as you sign the paperwork that you are signing responsibility of the vehicle to maintain like it's your own. She was very rude and then had me fill out an incident report. I never got refunded.
