Cons:We rented an SUV and were given a Kia Sorento. There was no luggage room and did not seat 7 people.Reviewed Nov 30 2020

This minivan rental didn't happenPros:Nothing.Cons:We arrived at 11:15 PM on our flights from San Francisco to Minneapolis. I got to the rental counter by 11:25, and there wasn't anyone there. A sign told me to go outside, across the street and upstairs to pick up my car. There was nobody there, either. The Hertz person told me I had to go back to the counter. I did. Nobody there. Now it's after 11:30. So the hertz representative said he would give me a rental van at the same price. I said repeatedly it has to be a minivan. He gave me a much smaller Kia SUV. I couldn't take it (we had 5 people and lots of equipment). I very luckily snagged a van from Alamo 5 minutes before they closed and was able to fit everyone in (just barely). Service from Thrifty was non-existent and Hertz wasn't much better.Reviewed Mar 6 2017

Car was great, the help was halfwayPros:Fast assistance at the pickup counter (low chat, fast keys, didn't let a long line form), able to choose any car within the class paid for, super clean car interior, only one set of car keys on the key ringCons:Summed up in Thrifty not thinking of the rental process from the customer's perspective ... After the pickup counter there was a guide that took us to the cars we could choose from. We had a question regarding looking over the car for scratches & dents because the first car we chose had some of note. The guide was gone, we asked the next two that came by and they didn't speak English. Next, at the departure of the pickup lot there was a backup of cars because someone's credit card wasn't accepted ... but it was accepted inside at the pickup desk? This delayed many people's departures by 5+ min. The last bit was that apparently MSP airport has car rental & dropoff at both Terminal 1 & 2, but we didn't know so we returned to the wrong one and had a 30 min walk + elevator + tram + walk + escalator journey. If dropoff location could've been hinted at that would've made our return much more smooth and convenient.Reviewed May 16 2018

Pros:For this occasion, it worked excellent for us. I picked the vehicle up and was delighted with it's performance and gas mileage. It's got the power to easily maneuver thru traffic and the comfort was great. (Keep in mind I was traveling with two guys who are easily 6'3" in height and all then of our baggage and suitcases .... Yeah, if it worked for us it ca work for you!)Cons:I picked this vehicle up from the airport at Terminal 2 in Mpls. I found the signage to get to the rental office difficult. Better signage would help a ton!! I think the problem is most customers are air travelers and if you are simply a local patron you do not get the signage direction that you would from inside the terminal. BTW: When returning a vehicle ... Holy Guacamole is that easy ... signage brings you right to the spot! More signage needs to direct you from outside of the car rental pickup!! Thanks for a great weekend!Reviewed Oct 20 2020

I felt tricked by the "special"!Cons:I selected the "special" rental which inferred that I would get a specialty car. The cost was slightly higher, but I was okay with that as I wanted a specialty car. When I arrived to the Thrifty counter, I was informed that this was poor advertising on Kayak's part, and that it was actually the "manager's special" ie the cars that were leftover, ie COMPACT CARS ONLY. So, unless I wanted to pay another $100 for a full size car, I had to take a compact car on the road trip in the snow. This was so frustrating! Also, MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than going on right at that moment and creating a new booking! I will NOT be booking in this manner again. BUYER BEWARE!!!Reviewed Mar 14 2017

Thrifty ok for price but needs better customer servicePros:Location of car at airport friendly and helpful woman who checked us in. Ability to pick our car when we got to their area rather than be assigned a car sight unseenCons:At check out no one went over condition of car. I had to point out the dent in passenger door and scratches on trunk. At check in there was a sign that said write time and mileage down but no where on form to write info. I tried to flag someone down who ignored me til I literally had to run after him and scream. He rudely told me he would take care of it and sign was wrong. Would have been nice to have had someone greet us on return and explain procedures since different than posted. Also not once did someone thank us for using ThriftyReviewed Mar 6 2018

Much better price than I could find anywhere else!Pros:My wife and I travel to Minnesota to visit family every year,. In the winter the cost is pretty good. Sadly, in the summer the prices jump considerably. We usually get a mid to full size car but decided to get a compact this time. There was plenty of room in the trunk for two full sized bags and carry on bags. The gas mileage was great - around 35 to 40 mph. The car was immaculate inside and out and the rental process was extremely easy. No high pressure talk for add ons. The return process was seamless. I have had some different experiences with other companies. Thank you Thrifty for making our vacation more enjoyable. John H.Reviewed Jul 15 2017

Declined insurance, was charged anywayPros:The car itself was fine. Drop-off in Milwaukee was fine.Cons:When I picked up the car in Minneapolis on Friday 1/12/17 (between 2 and 3 PM), the rep asked whether I wanted insurance. I clearly declined. I always decline insurance since my existing auto insurance covers rentals. When I dropped off the car and reviewed receipts I noticed that I was charged not only for basic insurance but also other add-on coverages, almost doubling the expected cost. Admittedly, I should have been paying more attention at pick-up - the contract the rep handed me at that time definitely had these charges listed. It probably would have been pretty straightforward to reverse these then. No one was able to do anything about it at drop-off. Very kind / understanding, but hands were tied. Ultimately, when I called Thrifty customer support someone agreed to credit me for the insurance. Seemed like they were making a one-time exception to the rule. I get it. Bottom line, be careful at pick-up, especially in Minneapolis. The rep there just seemed pretty checked out / inattentive. Kind of frustrating that declining everything resulted not only gave in basic insurance but also extra coverage.Reviewed Jan 19 2018

Cons:I booked this car because of the special on kayak and also because of the size that it would hold. It appeared to be a reasonable deal. When I went to pick up the car I was told by the thrifty agent that it was a very small car for "five small people and five small bags" It seems to me that the size of people and the size of bags should be a standardized unit to compare deals objectively. I was then up charged greatly for a car that would hold my luggage. My plan was to have it for 10 days. I returned it in two and was charged extra for ending the lease early, As I was moving from the UK to the US I felt held hostage by questionable business practice. I felt exhausted from long travel and cheated and that I had no options at the time. It would benefit you to know that I have since booked two other rental cars and I have not used thrifty or kayak.Reviewed Mar 1 2017

Pros:The staff was friendly, drop off was very easy.Cons:The desk agent did not explain very well that the Thrifty cars to choose from were under the Hertz signage, I wasted some time trying to locate the row with the Thrifty cars and there wasn't one for the car type that I rented. Also there was a delay getting out. There was only 1 exit booth open.Reviewed Sep 16 2019
