Pros: I received a great rate, then the next day I realized that I made the rental at the north end of the city instead of the bottom, and called to change it. The rate tripled. Then the guy on the phone let me use a promo code, which brought it down to a reasonable price, so I was happy. Then when I picked it up, the car went from $51 to $200!!! I was only using the car for 3 hours. RIDICULOUS. Watch your back.

The worst experience I had - missed a three day we
Cons: For some reason kayak and hearts allows to book a car for the time the location closes. I arrived at noon and the place was already closed(my pick up time was noon). No one waited for me. No one called. In a Second our three months in advance long weekend plans ruined. When I call Heartz they said there's not to do. The only option I had was to go to another location and pay 4 times!!!! As much ($150 originally and at the other location the price would have been $650 for three day rental) I couldn't afford it and the rest is history. We had to cancel out hote reservation and my girlfriend and I missed a family wedding.
Don't rent from Hertz don't use Kayak and always check when the location closes and make sure your reservation is not for that time. They wouldn't wait or call you and even leave earlier.

good ride, but not cleaned properly
Pros: The car drove well.
Cons: The car had a black residue on the windshield and front. We didn't notice it when we checked it since it was a wet, black car and the black residue wasn't visible until car had dried. Drugs (not ours) were found in the car by boarder agents when we returned from Canada causing a delay and causing us to have to repack the car. Also the gas tank was not full. We only had to return it filled to the pickup level, but it is much easier to just fill before returning rather than worry about the return level.

Cons: They did not have my car, and so I had to get a Zipcar and pay more than twice the amount that I had budgeted.

Personable and efficient staff
Pros: I liked the personnell at this branch of Hertz.
The car was ready and waiting for us and this branch at 185th Street in Manhattan had ample space and relaxed staffing. Worth the trip to 185th Street from midtown to pick up the car.

Pros: I liked that the pick up of the car was in Manhattan.
The young man that helped me during the drop off was very polite and professional.
Cons: There was quite a selection of cars in my category on the lot. It seems I got the worst car. I didn't notice how dirty the car was until I was outside in the sunlight.

Great car at a great price
Pros: Reserving through Kayak well in advance resulted in a highly competitive price for my 9-day rental. I received a clean Nissan Altima, which was ready when promised. During the trip the car sustained minor damage. When I returned the car the staff were courteous and efficient. While I won't know how the costs of repair will work out yet - the car and the staff were all great.
Cons: This rental was great. I only wish that Hertz, like Zipcar, would provide specific information on the car (make, model and features) and options before picking up the car.
Pros: The vehicle was upgraded for free after my standard size vehicle wasn't available.
Cons: The inside of the windshield was very filmy and I had to thoroughly clean it myself to drive safely. I found a beer bottle under the drivers seat and empty soda bottle rolling around under the passenger seat. The exterior of the vehicle was spotless but these "leftovers" from the previous rental were concerning.

No overnight drop off. No answer at local office.
Pros: The location is close to upper manhattan and therefore less expensive than a manhattan rental.
Cons: no mention if overnight key drop (there's none at that location), and attempted to call multiple times with no answer and no voice recording nor was the call forwarded to the general number.
with no information on the website as to Labor Day hours.
the customer service representative told me I was wrong and was not helpful. I could go on ...
