Nice experience but check-in needs to be faster.
Pros: Everything but the lengthy check-in. Agents were very pleasant and helpful.
Cons: Took 30+ mins to check in. Seemed like Not enough personnel working the counter. Also pay less check ins could only be done from certain terminals delaying the process.

Terribly long line at check in
Pros: Very courteous and professional staff.
Cons: A 45 minute wait in line for a reserved car.

Pros: Type of car was good
Cons: Over 2 hour wait to pick up the car at the check in desk when we had a reservation for the car. Probably 40 some people in line and not enough rental people to help them. Then some of them went on break or home because we never saw them again. I think there was only 2 people working the desk when they finally got to me and there was still probably 40 people now behind me. Then when I finally got my car, the person just pulled up, got out and walked away with out saying anything. Terrible service. I will not rent from Budgit or Payless again.

Horrible wait times
Cons: Horrible wait to pick up car - standing in the rain over 30 minutes for the shuttle - almost 2 hours in line at the counter - then the car wasn't ready so waited 20 more minutes outside. Employees were courteous but in no hurry to speed things up. Think twice before renting from Payless.

Pros: The car ran well and it was comfortable and what we ordered. It was there when it was supposed to be and the price was very reasonable.
Cons: Very long line to get the car. They put very high pressure to get you to buy there insurance. They tried to use scare tactics to get you to buy their insurance.

Pros: Drop off was easy.
Cons: Car wreaked of cigarette smoke. Tried calling car rental place for two days to see if something else was available, but no one answered, ever. There was no window wash in the tank.

Pros: I will have to think about this.
Cons: Long waiting lines for both Budget and Payless. Took about 2.5 hrs to in line; 20 minutes to process. Booked an economy and stated we'd have two suitcases, and was told that an economy was a Smart car, which no room for one suit case. Had to upgrade to larger car costing more. Hadn't left airport area and flat tire light came on and had to return to agency and get an exchange; more time, ugh. Counter staff were helpful but only half of the windows were being used; hence, the long checkout time. Car had old car odors. Wipers were in poor condition and could see better not using them. Agent was not at all complementary towards KAYAK.

Pros: Drop off was fairly easy,
Cons: The wait to get the reserved car was about an hour in line. Need more help at peak times, The car needed the front tires balanced or an alignment so the driving wasn't as good as it should be. NOt so bad that it wasn't fully functional.

Pros: Upgraded upon my arrival. Pretty sure it was because they were out of the cars at my level, but it was still a pleasant surprise to be expecting a sedan and drive out in a Ford GT.
Cons: Checkout to get the car upon my arrival from the airport took a little too long.

Pros: The car worked well.
Cons: The wait in Maui to be waited on was incrediblly long. We waited over an hour and an half along with a hundred other people who were shocked that not enough employees were on hand to help us get the cars we had reserved. It was hot, there was no place to sit. The woman who finally waited on us did not give us a Payless contract. She gave us a Budget one. Why? She added on other charges that were not mentioned when we reserved the car. Instead of reducing the charges due to our long wait, I think she tacked on more. Once I signed it, she said we'd have to wait another 30 minutes because they ran out of cars. As soon as a car was dropped off, it was washed and then we got it. And when we dropped off the car after our 6 days in Maui, we got someone else's bill for 4 days. Totally bad situation. I won't rent from Payless or Budget ever again.

Pros: The Ford Escape was very nice. I was originally quoted for a Hyundai Accent, but was presented with a Chevrolet teeny car that my golf clubs would not fit in.
Cons: They charged me an extra $20/day for the Escape. They also extorted an additional $225 for insurance coverage. I explained that I had sufficient insurance of my own, however they said that if I had an accident the contract would stay open until the car was repaired and my insurance would not cover that. I was also told that it could take 3 to 6 weeks for the parts to come from the mainland. I will never again rent a car from Payless or Budget Car Rental!

Pros: The car was fine. Price was good.
Cons: Very long wait; poor customer service. I don't like wasting an hour and a half of my vacation waiting for a rental car. The sales rep at the counter was very persistent in trying to up-sell me on a bigger car and especially the insurance. PayLess is very eager to add extra fees and charges (gas, insurance) and makes it clear that they will absolutely hammer you if they find any damage to the vehicle.

Cons: The first car we were given had a window that wouldn't shut. The second car had a dead battery. The third car was fine. It took an hour and a half to get a car. The staff was nice but the cars were terrible. The entire experience was frustrating. On top of it all, we left a vest in the second car which hadn't been turned in 10 days later. Again, frustrating. Pour customer service with pickup.
Pros: the price was good value . drop off was a good experience.
Cons: the pick up took over an hour and they went from 8 people at the desk down to 4 during a busy time. everyone in line was very frustrated and I found the experience unacceptable. I will not lease from them again due to the experience.

Charge for cleaning
Pros: When we picked up our car in Maui the agent was very careful to explain the fuel policy and we chose the return it full. They did not say anything about bringing the car back clean and when we showed up with sand on the floor mats they said we would have to pay a $60-$80 cleaning fee :( This being Hawaii with beach time a must, I figured if they wanted back sand free they needed to mention that at the time of rental.

Cons: I had to wait in 2 and half hour line to get the car then had to wait out used for the car for another 30 mins. When the car arrived the glove compartment was broken and on the floor. So I had to go back in and swap it for a car that's not broken. Which I had to wait for again.

Great value on Maui
Pros: Price was exactly what I reserved. Prepaid gas was cheaper than filling up before return.

Worst Rental Experience EVER!!!
Pros: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Cons: I arrived on the Hawaiian paradise of Maui excited to start my weeks vacation. The excitement ended about 5 minutes after picking up my bags and arriving at the rental car counter to see a line weavings its way back and forth through the entire lobby. I immediately went to seeking Kayak for other rental options, but found no other rental options that were comparable in cost or vehicle size, so I decided how bad could it be. Little did I know I was going to wait in line for over 2 hours just to get a rental car assigned and complete the paperwork. Then I was told it'd be another 30-45 minutes until my car was ready. By this time I obviously didn't have any other option, so I proceeded to wait another hour for my car finally to be pulled around. They'd obviously overbooked vehicles and the car had literally just been returned and quickly run through the car wash with absolutely no cleaning done. At this point I was just ready to get going after spending almost 3.5 hours getting a car. Once I hopped in and started driving the cleanliness of the vehicle was even more appalling. The thing smelt like a wet dog, somewhat understandable from people taking it to the beach. But in their rush to run it through the car wash they didn't even bother to clean the mirrors or windows. There were so many waterspots I literally couldn't see out any of the mirrors or the side or rear windows, so here I am driving in the middle of paradise and I can't see anything including the traffic around me. Needless to say hindsight I should've spent double the money and just rented from a reputable car rental company, NEVER AGAIN PAYLESS/BUDGET!!!

TAKES FOREVER TO PICK UP CAR
Pros: The car was clean and new.
Cons: Waited in a massive line for over 2 hours to pick up a car. There was a huge counter of about 15 terminals for people to check in with agents but only 3 people working. When we finally got to the counter they had no cars "ready" (washed/vacuumed) and we were quoted 15-20 mins to wait for a car. 35 mins later we find out the car we were waiting for had an engine light on and was NOT coming out from the back. No one came to tell us this, we were just patiently waiting. Finally asked about our car and find out what we were waiting for wasn't coming. We go back to the customer service desk and wait another 15 mins for someone to finally tell us "we'll have a car for you in 10-15mins" It wasn't for another 40 mins that we finally got a car and got on our way. We were at the rental place for over three hours. It was an absolute nightmare and a complete waste of an afternoon on vacation. We are patient and understanding people, but this experience was terrible.

Good rental, long check-in
Pros: Got a Ford Focus. The car was great, clean and a good value. Drop-off was painless.
Cons: Check-in process was long, so the large crowd when we arrived took almost an hour to get through.

Good size car for traveling
Pros: We had plenty of room for my family of three. Handled the luggage and the road well.
Cons: The passenger airbag would turn off and on by itself. Apparently it need servicing.

Pros: the pickup and drop off was great and fast zip in zip out.
Cons: I didn't like the arrangement after I called to request an extension for one more week. the cost far exceeded the previous cost., the agent would not reduce or match. he stated that was company policy some policy. there has to be a better way without a complete disregard for the person.

car rentals are not cheap!!
Pros: Fast drop off and quick shuttle to airport
Cons: There was a huge line to pick up car which also happened last time in Maui, about 1 hr total to get car!! Taxes are huge so ended up being $30/ dy. Used to be able to get package with car, no longer!

Pros: My agent named Ann. In the beginning she agreed my request to change the rental time from three to two days. But after I deny all the insurance suggestions ( she told 24.99 USD for two days, but list 24.99/per days ), she said she can't change any my reservation anymore . The contract price was wrong for three times, I think it's intentional.
Cons: Fire her, or pay her more that she doesn't need to cheat customers to earn more money. I will suggest the later one.

Renting process from 15 yrs ago
Pros: Nothing really except when I added my wife which required me going back the rep was astonishingly helpful
Cons: Where do I begin.. The process to get a car is a joke 50 people waiting in line and takes 15 min at the counter to complete the process I was there for 1.5 HR total.. The local number another joke- I called 10 times and nobody would pick up which required me to drive all the way back to the rental agency.. The whole process is chaos and I will choose another company next time it simply not worth the reduced rates vs dealing with the chaos.. It's not the way I wanted to start or finish my vacation

nothing out of the ordinary
Pros: We got a reliable car at a decent price without too much waiting. We weren't pushed to get insurance etc.
Cons: There is an upfront assumption that you will buy their gas, but if you fill up yourself the charge is removed. There are a lot of added fees, some voted by the local municipality. It would be nice if they just told that to us up front as well.

Cons: Spouse, as an extra driver, was an extra cost. Wish I had known that when I booked it. She would have appreciated the sites of Maui a bit more if I had driven half of the time!

MUST TAKE A SHUTTLE, NOT PICKUP AT TERMINAL AS FAL
Cons: When I booked the rental it clearly said I could get the car at the terminal and NOT HAVE TO RIDE THE SHUTTLE BUS. When I got there I was taken by shuttle bus, then waited a long time. This is false advertisement by Kayak. Also, I was not able to drive to all the places I had planned because the Ford I was given had a bad tyransmission. When I returned the car I was told that all of that Ford model had a bad transmission, yet they offered no refund and got it ready for the next victim.

Pros: At time of booking, Payless was the least expensive. Drop off was quick and efficient. Several shuttles taking you to and from rental facility so you didn't have to wait very long.
Cons: Upon arriving at the rental facility we waited an hour an a half to rent the car. They manage both Budget and Payless customers and the line was long. People were getting agitated waiting so long to get the car. Once we got the rental contract, we still waited another hour to get our car. We had planned to go to an attraction that closed at 2 pm, but the two and a half hours spent on renting a car eliminated that. Then we tried calling them for two days using the phone number on the envelope, calling corporate office, and a number listed on their website. We were never able to speak to someone. We want to extend our rental. Also tried contacting them via email and no luck. I can only wonder what a customer in an emergency can hope to get.

First time using Payless
Pros: The only thing I could think of saying that was a positive was that Payless was inside the airport property.
Cons: First off I didn't like being pressured to upgrade my vehicle. I wanted what I ordered and in the end I didn't upgrade but didn't receive what I rented. I also didn't appreciate how horrible of shape the rental car I got was in. When I ordered online for my two day stay it was $96, but after everything was said and done it came to over $250. I received a notification that our flight was delayed and was tiring to contact the Payless office where I rented the car from to see if I could delay my drop off. After trying to call for over an hour I gave up because no one picked up the phone and it was during regular business hours. I called a 1800 number I found online and they couldn't give me a straight answer or do anything for me because they couldn't find my rental in their computer. This was an extremely frustrating process that really shouldn't have been especially at the end of my vacation this was the last thing I wanted to deal with. I will never again rent a car from Payless or Budget.

Payless but not painless
Pros: Nothing to commend Payless.
Cons: First, Payless was very hard to find, turns out it was inside the Budget Care rental place. I feel somewhat cheated. Car was reserved for a total of $168, but charge at counter came to $200. I did not select any extra options. Also the compact was supposed to be a Nissan Versa Sedan or equal, but was the smaller Nissan Versa Note model, with no trunk, which is not equal but lesser. The agent handling the customer next to me was really giving the couple a very high pressure (uncomfortable to say the least) sales pitch to buy the upgrade and buy the extra insurance...he was quite intimidating..HATE these low-cost rental car companies.. Also my car had a tire that went needed an air fill. Will NOT rent from Payless again.

Better than I expected
Pros: Incredibly low rate and reasonable fees if you have your own insurance. The employees were incredibly helpful. We got a Chevy sonic which was perfect for 2 people with 2 suitcases. Also a great compact car for the Road to Hana
Cons: Only downfall was it seemed like no one at OGG knew about Payless or that it was at the Budget office. That might be something to add into the reservation email.
