Great yellow accents. Great staff. Great breakfast food. Wish there were more food options and eating time.
Everything was very nice and the staff was very friendly. I also liked check out time was 12PM without having to ask for a late check out.
This boutique hotel has so much charm. It was perfectly located for our many day exploration of SF. I also found it to be located in a hip area, being around the corner from the, reservations only, craft cocktail lounge Bourbon & Branch, and the best Thai restaurant (according to expats) in the city, Million Thai. I shopped many (endlessly beige and corporate) luxury hotels in the area, but was won over by this luxury hotel with personality. The room was very clean and quiet. We found the duvet and bed to be very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern with a wonderfully relaxing shower. The reported remodeling was complete when I visited and I found that the photos were an accurate portrayal of the rooms. I would not hesitate to book this hotel again, and would enthusiastically endorse it to friends and family.
After long days of walking and shopping, your great hot showers were the best part, followed by a little wine and cheese. Was great! The location is perfect! There was some funky smell coming up from the lower level... It wasn't overwhelming - just noticeable. It certainly won't stop me from coming back.
This hotel is very charming in an old fashioned manner. Dark wood furniture, parquet floors, tiled bathroom, and shuttered windows. I stayed on the third floor facing the street in a deluxe queen room. I found there to be plenty of room to move around. The queen bed was very comfortable. Everything was cleaned spotlessly every day. Its proximity to Union Square made it an excellent base of operations, and I felt safe walking too and from it. The hotel's restaurant, Millenium, is a truly excellent vegetarian/vegan restaurant with a great bar. The food is phenomenal and the staff knowledgable and friendly. Continental breakfast included. Tequila shot on check-in and wine and cheese from 5-6pm! Reasonable WiFi. I will definitely stay again. Since I had a room facing the street, I did get some street noise in the early morning. It didn't bother me but if you are a light sleeper ask for a room in the back of the hotel--there's not much of a view anyway. WiFi signal strength was a little low in the room--good enough for email/web, not enough for VOIP/videochat. The continental breakfast had a limited selection (although that didn't bother me).
room overall was very small, but looked very nice and clean. not much of a view in downtown San Francisco... we were staring right into someone else's hotel room in the adjacent building. solid room, great customer service. area underneath toilet lid seat was filthy
Room with shaft view
Its location was perfect to know downtown San Francisco.
The hotel was close to centre of town and accessible to most attractions by foot or cable car. No coffee facilities in rooms and the room itself could have been a bit larger.
Location, pineapple scent A ton of little creaky, old, uncomfortable things about this hotel add up to a tough place to sleep. This includes hard pillows, creaky pipes, random irregular sounds from the walls, a heat-happy thermostat, and so on
Service was great. They were very helpful.
The yellow "pineapple" touches all around the hotel were adorable!! we stayed in the queen starlet room which was small but you'd hardly notice - it was laid out very well. Bathroom is very modern! Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Our airconditioner didn't work the first night. The front desk offered to move us to a new room but we declined, hoping the window would provide some cool air. The next day our AC was fixed while we were out and we didn't have further problems. Also wish the the bed had a top sheet in addition to the fitted sheet - Sometimes the duvet was too warm.
Staff were friendly. Lobby was nice. Close to union square. I quite liked te location. Room wasn't that clean, dust balls and items under the beds. Beds very soft as mattresses were old. Bathrooms looked very tired and were cramped. Wallpaper scuffed up badly. Needed remodel. Also there are a lot of homeless in this area, I got woken up every morning in the early hours with neurotic screaming and shouting from people sleeping outside.
Quiet with access to the theater district, Union Square and fine dining Bathroom a little small
Lovely spacious rooms and bathrooms, detailed and comfortable, great, and I mean great coffee in the lobby for mornings. The kind of hotel where you seat in the lobby and watch activity and relax. Just wonderful experience. Close to union square and Powell and market shopping and activity. It was perfect really!
Everyone was very cordial and that is exceedingly important to me. The lukewarm/cold complimentary coffee served the days I was at the hotel.
This used to be a Kimpton Hotel and still has the cool factor that Kimpton brings to all its properties. Sadly, maintenance has waned since the hotel was sold to an investment company.
Friendly & helpful staff. Location, and Jaspers as an option for meals & drinks. A little worn, coffeemaker inroom,
Rooms were small but clean. Hotel was well kept for its age. Location is in a difficult side of town. Hidden costs such as a $22.00 tax. We made them take it off. $59.00 for parking we were not told about the cost. Then our account was charged other amounts we had no idea what they were.
I really liked the architecture and our bellhop/concierge (they play double duty) was really nice. The rooms are small, which I expected from an old building. The mattresses are awful (truly, truly awful), which I din't expect and the price is high for low amenities and low quality. Also, the valet parking is $60/day. When we checked out, they asked how our stay was and I told them the mattresses were really uncomfortable and they just sort of ignored that. They probably hear it all the time. I won't stay there again.
Location - excellent, v close to Union Sq/restaurants etc; staff - friendly/helpful Room - small, low on facilities eg no kettle for tea making; noisy pipes; hotel 'resort charge' of 20+ per day for wifi and coffee station in lobby is bit cheeky for tech capital of the world with over 100+ starbucks in city
I typically stay at a large chain hotel but couldn't get one on a short notice - the price was right and I really enjoyed taking a break from the same large business hotels. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!
The hotel has lots of character, the lobby looks like the lobby of an old movie theater. The room also was furnished in period style, with a nice view. Very conveniently located near Market Street.
Bed and quietness Location not the best, but it is San Francisco...
The lobby was beautiful, the staff was very helpful & accommodating. Easy check in, ready available bell staff & quick valet service. Checking in & out was a freeze. Our room was quaint & adorable. Comfortable beds & clean. Walking distance to union square, shopping & restaurant & entertainment! We will be using this hotel as our future staple!
I liked that it was simple and clean. No sound proofing. So if you're next to neighbors who are just a bit louder than normal, you would hear them. The place looks out dated. There is no room service. Reception wasn't very approachable. Not very friendly.
Nothing, I can't even say location because anywhere in SF is easily accessible via taxi. Dirty room, beds you can feel the springs in, poor customer service. Just because a hotel reports its a historic hotel does not mean room remains outdated and uncomfortable.
The food is very good at the restaurant Parking was $40.
The location was fantastic as was the historical feel.
Interesting architecture. The internal restaurant was able to serve a really nice dinner and service was first rate! Be aware this part of market is at the "edge" of the nicer part of market street.
The location The smell of the room The quality of the beds The "customer service" The amount payed Overall, terrible experience. I won't be back and will not recommend this hotel.
Staff, cleanliness, location The heater was insufficient.
The location is close to restaurants and the mall. Some bathrooms in the rooms were recently renovated. The bathrooms were small and not very clean. The sheets on one of the beds had blood stains on them. It look a long time to get maid service. The lighting fixtures were dusty. Rooms are overdue for an upgrade. The location is not in the best area of town. There were a lot of homeless people hanging around the hotel.
I liked how quiet the hotel was , and how cozy the room was. Hotel is outdated , bathrooms are small , AC is old , carpet was dirty , electrical outlets were tough to find and in hard to reach areas (crawled under a desk) water pressure was weak for the shower , there was gum on the wall,
mold in the bathroom , the carpets stinks , and an over all sense of uncleanliness , very rode staff
The bed was excellent great sleep. Rooms very small and bathroom smaller than Crusie ship bathrooms. Toilet broke and had to wait several hours for repair person to show up. The lobby looked great but then we walked into our room
The Opal is an older building with beautiful architecture and charm. To get into the lobby you have to be a guest, using your room key to unlock the front doors. I was so much more relaxed within the hotel with this added security. It is in an excellent location to good food and sight seeing and if driving, is easy to get to from 101 and they also have a private, gated parking garage! We will definitely stay at the Opal San Francisco in the future! Would recommend curved shower rods to give a little extra room. Because of being an older building the electrical outlets are minimal and had to do some rotation of electrical devices.
The only thing I did not like is that the hotel os smoke free. The need to offer a place for guests to smoke outside
Leaving the next morning It was outdated, old, and dirty. The comforter looked like it hadn't been washed in years. There was a banana peel with a gnat flying around it left in the trash can that never got cleaned out before we checked it. I slept fully clothed. I could very easily see this hotel and the room have a rodent/bug problem. I would NEVER stay here again, even if I was being paid to.
Price Staff Room Location is not bat but could be better
The bed was exceedingly cozy, and the room was spacious. I don't know if all rooms are that spacious, or just the handicapped-accessible ones. The free breakfast was decent. There was a strange smell I couldn't really identify, which first reminded me of a grandparent's home. When I returned to my family, I was told I smelled like a bandaid, and that was similar to the room's smell. Not unpleasant, just disconcerting.
Front desk person was very helpfull. Carpet with stains and smelly.
Bird poop on my car even though it's covered parking. Noise from garbage container cleaning at 10 pm and 7 am right below my room. Getting from parking to lobby is just sketchy.
Nothing Everything. Especially the manager.
The hotel has a funny smell. I didn't like it.
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were nice and clean. The continental breakfast was very good. And in a good location if you want to see the city.
Very affordable price (except parking ). The hotel is within walking distance of all kinds of great places: restaurants, bars, Union Square, Japan Town, etc. The bed are big and comfy! The ice machine was kind of hidden on the third floor. Kind of weird. Also, no fridge or microwave in the room.
This place was rated 3 stars. We went into it knowing that. It met our expectations. Great location, clean, good price. Staff were excellent. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Nothing. Was exactly what we expected.
Friendly staff, clean and near everything! Love it! nothing
Helpful staff and very clean rooms. Unable to sleep because located next to an extremely loud music venue that operated until the early morning. Rooms without desks or chairs to work in during the evening. Scratchy sheets and pillows with no support. This part of Mission is a bit rough.
The desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. They sent up maintenance immediately when I told them the safe was locked before I checked in. The safe was locked when I checked in, the housekeeping staff forgot to empty a garbage that had food scraps in it, and the shower door is very difficult to open because the glass door doesn't quite clear the stone entry.
Location and price Small room, two outlets did not work, parking too expensive
Friendly accommodating staff. New and clean. Good location. First room was fine, then they moved the 3 of us to one very tight one with the only light coming from a light well - inadequate room lighting - much too dark. Okay breakfast offerings. Two fire alarms on one day - evacuation at 8 am and again later.
Got a great room price for SF standards and it was modern, New, clean, walked to Giants game, not exposed to noise @ the game. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Convenient location. Breakfast Valet parking- $$$$$$$$- crazy , neighborhood needs lots of love
The staff was quite helpful and also let me leave my bag for the days whilst I was gone. I would highly recommend it and will plan on staying there next time I am in town!
Quaint and charming architecture and modern decor throughout. Front desk staff was very nice, the girls gave me tips on using Uber and a coupon code for my first ride. They also alerted me to the fact that the church down the street double parks on the street and blocks you in. Comfortable bed Good neighborhood for walking if you like to shop as it is very close to Union Square. I was lucky and scored a parking space right outside the front door and only had to pay one hour at the meter on Saturday (Sunday was free) Street noise was substantial, but this is downtown SF after all so it wasn't unexpected. Just bring earplugs. Bathroom was very tiny and a little cramped, but made up for it in charm. Nice big and deep bathtub helped.
The rooms were small but nice. It suited our needs and there were recent renovations. The staff was very rude when checking out. There was miscommunication when talking about parking fees. The signs they have are misleading and she was being a "b" when talking to us. I would not go back just because of her.
I liked the location was close to many top tourist attractions. Staff was exceptional. Did not like the neighborhood and noise from the streets.
Nothing special, but nothing wrong with the place. Clean room, nice beds, and friendly staff. Thin walls and floors allow you to hear your neighbors conversations and bowel movements.
Location & front desk personnel were friendly & helpful. 8th floor had a bad order. It was very loud. Thought room should have had fridge & a complimentary breakfast with stay!
Saw many complaints about the location but it was a great area within walking distance of Union Square, Chinatown and other locations to get to via public transportation and lyft. The staff (from the front desk to the maintenance) was all incredibly helpful and kind. If you want to stay around Union Square, this is the place to do it! The elevator was a bit small and the closet didn't have a light in it so it was a bit hard to see in there. Additionally, when windows were open due to sleep temperature, it was a little loud despite choosing a "quiet room." Otherwise, we loved it!
If you know which streets to skip, the location is good Too many homeless in the area. Remodeling made it dirty. The images are false advertising
very cleanly and has a cool atmosphere. Close to really good food and some cool places.
I liked everything about the hotel itself! The location was pretty convenient and accessible to public transportation. I did not like the fact that there was no hotel parking. We had to pay for overnight parking and the total came out to $95 for 2 nights.
The room was adorable, spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff was super friendly. The 24/7 coffee and water was a nice touch as were the 3pm cookies. The hotel and experience overall far exceeded my expectations.
The location of this hotel within the city Complimentary breakfast Amenities Hotel Staff
The best thing about this hotel was that they offered cookies in the late afternoon, and all day tea/coffee. Room and beds are small. No air conditioning in the room. In room coffee was not replenished. Bathroom very outdated. Room service did not clean the room, all they did was make the bed. The elevator is old and frightening. Staff is very curt with guests.
Tiny roomNoisy , No ac Expensive Parking
Wonderful, responsive staff. Room was a little small. Breakfast was very fresh.

Good continental breakfast, helpful staff, complimentary cookies that were tasty, clean room, eco-friendly, microwave/fridge/silverware in room No central heat/AC, street noise
The continental breakfast was nice (nothing amazing, but a decent selection). Free WiFi was a good feature (but it is too slow to stream anything). Location 10 minutes from a BART was convenient and two blocks away is a nice strip of small restaurants. This was NOT a 3.5 star place. It was dated and the room was small and there was no air conditioning. I know the Bay area does not get hot often, but it meant to stay comfortable you had to keep your window open and that meant hearing traffic all night.

Kind staff Too small room than the price I paid
Nice staff and clean hotel. Very nice complimentary breakfast. entranxe and lobby area tastefully decorated. Inadequate closer space & barely any drawer space. Very short sink in bathroom. Sink is fine for people 5'6 and below. Room was very stuffy due to small size so window needed to be cracked open. Problem with window being own is lots of noise outside.
Comfortable, clean with a great staff. Our room was extremely small and barely wide enough to set up a child crib. For what we got, I feel it wasn't worth the $255 per night. I was suprised there wasn't a restaurant in the hotel, just a coffee shop selling bagels for $7 a piece.
Brand new hotel- lots of outlets, fast wifi, etc. Valet was not coordinated and cost more than posted
Very nice newly remodeled in a central location. The rooms were a little on the small sude
The Staff was so kind, patient and helpful. They are what made my stay special. They are familiar with the area and local activities. We arrived super early and the staff held our bags, until we were able to check in, so we could start our sightseeing. The hotel was clean and we'll maintained. Great security and always felt safe (traveling as a mother and two teenage girls). Loved the shuttle service which was easily scheduled and on time. Room was comfortable and upgraded, which is hard to find in San Fran. WiFi was fast and no loss of connection. Highly rated and approved by teenagers. Housekeeping was great, efficient and cleaned room daily. Bottomline, I will stay again when I head back in September with my husband. I'll say location as a con because it is the "elephant in the room" on reviews. You can't change location so there's only so much to say. The Thing is, it's not that bad. My daughters and I walked to public trans during the day and used hotel shuttle when we returned at night. No problems at all throughout stay. Area is what you expect from any major downtown area. There were homeless in front of the $400 per night hotels too so why pay more. Only "issue" I had was at the restaurant where you have your continental breakfast. They changed the breakfast options in January, which aren't reflected on the menu. No eggs, no potatoes and replacement of items are scarce. You can turn in breakfast voucher (reportedly worth $18.75) plus pay $8.75 and get the breakfast you were promised. That's seems like the voucher isn't worth anything because the breakfast is only worth $8.75. Eitherway, the oatmeal got me going in the morning.
Free shuttles a few times a day. Staff was super helpful showing us best values for travel, food. Honestly can't say enough good things about the staff Rough area known as the tenderloin. I didn't mind and there were younger women on the sidewalk at night but area may be off putting for some
Hotel itself looks nice, close to points of interest. The area surrounding the hotel was extremely rough and unsafe.
The desk and restaurant staff were very friendly. I did not like finding out parking was extra, way extra. I paid almost 100 dollars to park Friday around noon until Sunday around 10am. With one out and return on Saturday afternoon. Seeing other hotels in the area with signs saying Free parking for guest and fee parking for public. Made me wish I'd stayed at one of them instead. Location is bad with crack and marriuana being smoked out in the open on the street surrounding.
They charged me $300 on a bogus charge saying we had extra people I our room. When I called and asked them about it, they refused to look into it and made me go through my credit card company instead. They didn't even notify me of the charges.I saw them on my credit card statement the following month. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!
Clean room, good staff, wifi Bad area of town, had an issue with water pressure in our room, breakfast is strange and not good
Nice roof top lounge, rooms are nice always clean friendly staff Ellis street has lots of people on sidewalks doing drug deals sleeping in streets and using drugs but it's a reality check and you need to be aware.
Friendly Staff, Clean Room, Downtown, reasonable rates. What more can you ask for?
given the rate, good and comfortable amenitiea scary to walk around at night
We booked this hotel for the Haloween weekend. Despite being in the Tenderloin this was a really great hotel and we had a great stay. We didn't have any problems with the homeless people we had read about in previous reviews. It looked like there was a security guard in front of the hotel maybe making sure people weren't loitering. It was really easy getting an uber to get to where we were going. It was hot. Like really hot in the room. I know that air conditioners are not very common in san francisco but... maybe they could have left the balcony door open or something. It made getting our haloween costumes on kind of miserable. There were a couple fans to use but they didnt really help that much. Also, our toilet didn't really seem to work correctly.
The hotel is nicely equipped and laid out. The room was nice, and I'd give the bed about a 5/10 in comfort. The staff was incredibly nice, saying hello to us every time we walked in, and goodbye every time we left. The included breakfast was fantastic, and that was a definite plus. They didn't have HGTV - that's a must when traveling! The location was pretty rough. I read about other travelers complaining that the location was bad, but I figured they were exaggerating. Ellis Street is pretty rough - lots of homeless people urinating and defecating on the sidewalks, but if you just skip Ellis and walk down another street to your destination, you'll be fine. There were a LOT of sirens going by the hotel each night, but I think that might have more to do with SF in general than just the Tenderloin District. Some of the loud noises at night might have been gunshots, but they also might have been dumpsters slamming. Some people say they wouldn't walk around at night, but it's actually not that bad. The homeless shelters open some time in the evening, so the later you're walking around, the less likely you are to actually encounter anyone.
The hotel was very clean, room and bathroom are large, bed comfortable, and the staff was very helpful. The top 8th floor lounge was nice and relaxing. Overall for the area this was the best hotel. Shuttle service to local visitors sites as well.
Nice place to rest and regroup No microwave or fridge
Toilet broke twice, the wi-fi didn't work.
The location was pretty much near the center of the city. They said all rooms were non-smoking, but I clearly saw a cigarette burn on our blanket the first night. Also, the bathroom easily gets dirty (the tile floor). The TV freezes and then turns off by itself many times which can get annoying.
A lot nicer than I thought it would be compared to the reviews the area wasn't bad at all No larger towels for shower, could tell they really pushed penny's there.
Nothing It was a horrifying experience. My family heard shouting and fighting from all over the place through out the night. The police and an ambulance came. Never dared to find out what happened. Also you get to smell pod from other rooms. The bed sheet had holes and burned marks. The elevator was either broken or turned off with no signs stating why. The AC didn't work. Called for repair but never showed up. When we checked out in the morning, there was a used condom on the ground right next to my car door. It's cheap, but what you pay is what you get.
The "free parking" is not guaranteed to be the lot in the picture and unfortunately this was the sole reason we chose this place, we refused to park in the alley where I stepped in pee. After arguing with the clerk for 10 minutes, that the manager must have some type of contact number, we finally spoke with the manager to ask for a refund. The manager refused to recognize the misleading pictures & information regarding parking, provided by Civic Center Inn. He was extremely combative & only let up once we told him we'd quote the insane crap he was telling us on Yelp, and here. That's when his entire demeanor changed. I wouldn't suggest anyone staying here. The room was sketchy, too.
Exelente cutomer service, ask for Victor really nice guy. Have parking but was full the weekend so you have to park on the street( if you can find a spot)
Dirty carpet, dirty walls, moldy shower.
The cost for the room Missing alot of furniture
Unique, great location SO LOUD!!!! I could not get a good nights rest because the walls are soooo thin and you can hear everyone and everything... I would have given the hotel 4 stars if it weren't for that!
I liked the location. I didn't like that parking at the hotel was $35 a night. It would of been nice if it was in the description. Parking was a rip off.
This is more like a motel than hotel. It was clean, but weathered. The furniture and finish was economy when it was new which was some time ago
Poor noise isolation
Noisy at night, cold rooms.
The location is good. The front desk person was a trainee left alone and unable to fulfill basic functions of their job. The room was loud and stuffy. Our original room had no functioning windows or air conditioning. Several dead birds outside locked window. After an hour at the front desk we finally got a better room. This motel is extremely noisy. Don't plan on sleeping past 7 am as all doors open into a courtyard and slam as guests leave.
Don't ever come here!
The decor The staff was m
Was close to location that I needed to be at... Moscone Center, Union Square, etc. Construction at hotel was taking place during my stay, so was awoken earlier than I would have liked.
The location is on the edge of the Tendetloin, but it's not too bad. I know the city and you can do a lot worse, trust me. The hotel is right off market street, walking distance to a lot of cool stuff and close to the Muni. The hotel charges $30 for overnight parking, but that's a very good value for SF, and it's 24 hour security in a gated lot so you don't have to stress about your car. The hotel is not super fancy, but the room was clean and had a safe, cozy feel. Our friends stayed around the corner at a much higher rated hotel $$$, and we feel like we got a super value.
Cheap Location size of room and amenities.
Beds were really comfortable! Staff were all very nice and super helpful Super close walking distance to great shops & food Be wary of homeless element, could be very scary to some. Single elevator is small and slow
The manager was extremely helpful, especially when the bay bridge was out and we ended up needing an extra bed for a stranded Berkeley student. Parking cost a bunch....and the valet situation just seemed awkward....do we tip? do we not tip? Why do I need valet if there are open spaces right there....
The reception staff were very helpful. It was a good idea to offer free tea and coffee in the mornings and the $5 breakfast box was good value. Free internet was a very good service to those of us who do not want the extra weight of a laptop. Only the street people nearby who partly downgrade the location.
Nice beds and a great location. Rooms were small but not unmanageable.
free wireless internet
The location was close to BART, but there are so many HOBOs around the building that I wouldn't consider staying there for too many nights. Still felt safe. Free Tasting of wines on Mon-Fri. WiFi works ok, but needs to relogin each day. Noisy Too many HOBOs Expensive for what you get. No breakfast
Reasonable rates, staff and management sincerely attempting to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Parking excellent on hotel premises, cost in line with San Francisco, $35 per 24 hours, in and out all you want which is worth the cost in this town. Small rooms, Flat screen TV but channel options limited.
the staff was friendly and courteous the rooms were really old like from the 1930s, they also forgot to mention that they were giving me a connecting room which was really disappointing. The restroom had no vents, and all the rooms had no AC, so imagine yourself on a hot day. goodluck! I will never recommend this hotel to you, once you leave the front door of the hotel, you will be welcomed by numerous homeless people. And theyre parking is over priced, come on its 2016, your charging your guest $30/night?
The service was very friendly Very central, market street is only 30 seconds away with plenty of boutiques and food The neighborhood it is not super fancy, at night it does not give a very safety feeling, so I would not come with small children.
Comfort Rooms were too small and ac was difficult to use
Parking garage is $45 Small restroom and no fridge
Typical chain hotel amenities, and comfy bed. Good location. Housekeeping came in the room at 7am to me pushing them out saying come back later. If she had it her way she'd clean around me and make me into the sheets go get her job done. Hidden fees. Add $100 extra to your bill for "taxes and other costs". Parking is $50 a night
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Rooms are clean, communal areas are clean. But its a basic stay, good for if you need to be in the area and do not require more than a comfortable bed. Location not ideal. Far from downtown. Room was made daily, though we expressed that an attendant should not enter the room (not a big deal).
ThemIss come into your room even when the privacy sign is in. She didnt eve knock just barged right in! Not comforting if your trying to leave your room at all while on vacation.
Cleanliness and comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Nice view of the city. Close to BART and muni. No refrigerator and microwave in room. Homeless people near the area.
Staff was excellent. Area of the hotel. Not an area I would walk around.
Room had at least two flies at all times. Sheets may may not have been changed. Restaurant food was like pay x4 the price of Denny's but the same quality
Increased price at booking by 15%. Quoted price $135/night became $220 after increase, taxes, and enormous $42 parking fee. Tried to cancel, they wouldn't allow that.
Rooms looked fairly newly renovated. Homeless receive free services next door so they're everywhere and they're aggressive. NOT a place I'd bring a family to stay if enjoying SF.
The staff and restaurant were excellent Being a guest and having to pay extra for parking. Makes staying in the city to expensive because you don't really want to walk anywhere in that area at night
Subway soda left in my room upon arrival.
Terrible customer service. Rude.
Walking distance to Symphony and Opera halls as well as the civic center. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value. Clean. It is not in a bad neighborhood but very near a bad neighborhood.
The hotel is centrally located near everything. The staff is nice and the facility is kept clean. No AC; and, we had to sleep with the windows open. While sleeping with the windows open is not bad, we had to put up with the noisy city life.
The Art Decorated rooms were pretty and esthetically pleasing to the artistic eye, but that's it. Pretty much everything else. Hotel advertises parking, a play structure for kids, air conditioning, a restaurant, and bar and lounge. Let's start with the play structure. Is it on the same block? Yes. Is it theirs? No. Is it nice? No. Is it una neighborhood you'd want to take your kids to play? Hell no! Then there's the non existent air conditioning. Hotel doesn't have it. Bathrooms don't even have exhaust fans... The restaurant? Not theirs either. It's just nearby. And don't get in late because it closes at ten. The bar and lounge is not theirs either. It's just next door. Although the as makes it seems like all of this is part of their hotel. All they have is a cafe open until 2pm. The worst part is the parking. Add says they have parking. They don't. Here's the best part. They said, "There is a parking area connected to the back of our hotel. But it's not ours and we are not affiliated. It's $35 per night. You can pay that to us here. We have a video camera on it that I can see from OUR front desk. We can open the gate from here for you. And you can walk into the back of our hotel from the parking. Oh, you have an SUV? That will be $45 then for oversized parking." WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That sounds awfully affiliated for non-affiliated. Sure seems like you're charging people $30-45 for overnight parking and pretending its someone else. And it was full of SUVs. We rented three rooms for eight people totalling in the $700-800 range and you seriously wanted an extra$45 to park our damn car? When we complained about all this, the staff was EXTREMELY rude. After a great deal of arguing, he told us the manager would be in in the morning and we could "take it up with him". Yeah, guess who "wasn't in" when we came down at 9:30? Save yourself a nightmare. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
We were sight seeing and Bill gave us excellent advise on how to see the city. We had a late flight out of town and we were able to travel around town until early evening and they kept our luggage and arranged for our transportation to the airport.
They staff was courteous at all times. The windows opened fully and let in a fantastic breeze. The beds were comfy and had blankets with enough heft to be soothing. The extra pillows where easy to find. The bed, nightstand, desk, dresser were beautiful, authentic, intact, and matched vintage pieces that I would have taken home with me and been very proud to display in a guest room. It had a very vintage feel that harkened to old fashioned glamor. We got our room key and went to our room to find it still being cleaned. Our reservation was for 3, but only had 2 sets of towels. The shower curtain didn't contain water. The windows didn't have screens. The bedside lamp lacked an outlet, but looked nice on the table. We had to leave early, apparently our walking (quietly, we aren't totally inconsiderate) was too much for the room below us, and she knocked on our door to tell us as much. The steam radiator was less than 6 inches from the head of the bed, it was on full blast, there were no instructions for use anywhere. The space between the edge of the bed and the desk wasn't enough to pass between without turning sideways. The area of town is sketchy at best, but that's my fault for not researching fullly. The was no parking. After paying valet, trying to access the building from the parking lot to get our things was 1) completely un assisted, no bellhop, no trolley, but that also means I didn't have to tip. 2) required walking through the bowels of the building through a contorted, narrow hallway, past the bins, across a lose grate down a sandbagged path into a gated valet lot. They did try to at least disguise the bins with some wonderful displays of jades and succulents that are obviously well tended and treasured by someone. Nothing was intolerable, there's very little the hotel can do about the downtown noise and hustle or the surrounding environment. I might stay there by myself for a thrifty weekend get away if I had plans to only need a place to lay my head, but I wouldn't bring my daughter back there again. Ever.
Nothing I burnt my leg taking a shower. I was cold. There was no central heating so I took a hot shower. The hotel said hey would refund me one night stay and have not done so. I spoke to bill and Mary and nothing. I'm very upset
Good location, good price. Bare bones. You get a room and a bathroom and that's about it. I usually see a room as a place to sleep, so it didn't bother me too much, but I could see how other people might be unhappy. No AC, no coffee machine, small room, old building, old plumbing.
I liked the location for travel purposes, however the tv in our room did not work. Took a little complaining before we were relocated.
the rooms didn't smell good. There was a lot of noise in the alley and in the next rooms.
Wonderful staff in very good location (especially for the price!)
Close to a BART station. Very convenient from International Airport. Public safety is not so good around the hotel. Sometimes, in the midnight, outside of the hotel was noisy.
Staff members were very polite, and helped with obtaining taxi when Love Fest - parade along Market Street was in full swing. Only experienced one staff member more interested in his dinner break than serving customers. Try and avoid room facing road, very noisy traffic and people walkingby. Not suitable for ladies to walk back from Market Street when it is dark, to Motel - 3 blocks. Unfortunately a lot of homeless people line the road en route back, esp at night. Staff friendly, however, would not accept Travel Card insisted on card with name on it, which was inconvenient.
Kitschy decor is cute, gives room a less sterile feel. The hotel markets itself as boutique, but is actually owned by the Best Western across the street.
Its a stylish place, in a not so great location; however the personnel were very nice. The location, and parking fee
N/A wouldn't accept cash and unfriendliness of staff
Very friendly and helpful staff Offers free wifi but very very slow and does not work most of the time
nice room.very nice looking and comfortable. no ice machine on the floor.paying for parking.
Good clean room, friendly staff, value for money. Location not ideal with quite run down surrounding areas
The staff were great, very helpful, and the room was pretty cool Minor point, but the tv reception was awful and the remote control did not work.
Helpful staff, comfortable bed. I would have liked more extensive breakfast choices.
I loved the room decor. Although having a refrigerator in the room would have been good for storing my medications. The location is bad and the availability of something decent to eat past 10:00 p.m., is none. The staff added additional items to the billing and I had to request several times for the rate to be corrected and the additional items removed.
