Cons:The woman who assigned the car to me asked if I would like the accept the $40 a day insurance. I declined and added a second driver to the rental which increased the total of the rental by $13 a day. The woman at the counter told me the amount that would be held on my credit card and had me sign for the car and the additional driver. The process seemed smooth enough and she handed me the keys and the agreement to put in the car and said I didn’t even need to do a car inspection and could just leave. I should have known it was too good to be true then. My friend and I got our vehicle and had a great vacation. We returned the rental and I received the email saying the total bill amount, which was different than the amount they emailed when I checked out the vehicle and it stated I had accepted the $40 insurance per day. I called and spoke with a representative and he said I had signed to accept the insurance, and when I told him the woman told me I was signing for the car he said it was my fault for blindly signing. I’m waiting to hear back from a manager to fight this, but be aware that if you rent from Thrifty that their employees are dishonest and will lie to you to get you to sign for something to pay double what the car would normally cost. I will not ever rent from them again.Reviewed Feb 5 2020

Excellent ServicePros:I booked my thrifty car rental in Honolulu through kayak online it was very quick and easy. My flight was delayed and I was worried as I was fifteen minutes late to pick up my car from the rental service but the staff were very accommodating and there was no issues. On pick up I had the most helpful staff member named Ed give me multiple suggestions of places to visit in Oahu. He was so friendly and helpful he was a joy to chat to. The car was very good and was great for gas. Only need to fill up the tank 1.5 times during two week rental and I was driving all over the island. Upon return the staff were very quick taking only a few minutes to check the car before telling me everything was in order and I was free to take their free shuttle bus to the airport. All in all an excellent experience.Cons:There was very little I didn't like about the service. The only thing which I feel could be done differently is at pick up I was offered a fuel insurance. Where if I paid $44 I could bring the car back with any level of gas. At the time I thought this was a good deal however when filling the car up from empty I found it only cost $28 for a full tank of gas. Apart from that there was nothing else I would change about the service.Reviewed Nov 25 2017

Problem upon drop off with supposed damageCons:Told me to look over the car for larger than golf ball sized dents and scratches longer than 5 inches. I did so in the failing light as I took the car. When I returned it, the checker asks me about a super small dent/much smaller than 5" scratch in the back driver side quarter panel. It felt scammy to be honest. I stated not only did I not see it when I rented the vehicle, I could barely see what he was pointing out in broad daylight as I returned it. They made me file a claim, my insurance company is now involved and I'm waiting to see if Thrifty pursues it. It seems to be entirely up to Thrifty if they want to try to make me pay for something I for sure didn't do (for 42 of the 48 hrs I had the car it was parked in an indoor garage against a concrete wall on the driver's side, making it impossible for the damage to have happened while it was parked). I was involved in no accidents or scrapes or anything while driving, so it literally couldn't have happened on my watch. Just unwanted stress and did not feel taken care of or believed as the customer.Reviewed Mar 3 2017

Pros:The whole experience was ruined by you... not informing me that the car was 30 min from the airport. When I got on the Thrifty shuttle at the airport, I showed the driver the address I was given, and he said that location was closed. The location where he dropped us off had a 1 hour wait, and when we finally arrived at the desk, they told us we were at the wrong location, and would not provide us transportation to the correct location, which they informed us closes in 40 minutes. I then had to drag my wife and three children in an Uber for $50 to the correct location, worrying the whole time that they may be closed. When I a exited the Uber, I had to leave my wife and children behind to actually RUN to get there before closing in 2 minutes. This put a bad taste for the rest of the whole vacation. Then I also had to pay $50 to get back the airport after returning the car, so it actually cost me about $100 more than I agreed to, negating the reason I used Thrifty, for value. Thrifty ruined my vacation.Cons:The whole experience was ruined by you... not informing me that the car was 30 min from the airport. Cons:We rented our rental from Waikiki, we thought we were renting by the airport. Because Hawaiian Airlines changed our flight to a later time, we couldn’t pick up our rental in Waikiki. We were told that they only would allow pick up of the vehicle two hours after the reservation, and by the time we would get to Waikiki the rental office would be closed. So I asked the agent to call the location and let them know that we had just gotten into Honolulu and to please explain the situation to the office in Waikiki and she then proceeded to tell me that they don’t have their phone number. So we had to rent another vehicle for the day which costs us an extra $200.Reviewed Jun 6 2021

Pros:The car was great.Cons:The credit card machine didn’t work with the chip, the swipe strip on my card is functional most of the time but the chip reader was broken and they couldn’t manually put the number in. My girlfriend had to pay and that started our vacation off with some tension. Just fix the machine.Reviewed Jan 27 2019

Jeep was fun but inconvenientPros:The staff at Thrifty was friendly but rushed. Bus drivers were nice and very helpful.Cons:We'd requested a convertible but the only one they had was a Jeep. It was fun but not secure. The back windows are just zipped in place and could easily have been unzipped.Reviewed Oct 12 2015
