Flights from Reagan-National to the United States: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew the route from Reagan-National to the United States
MorganFlew with Delta-Jun 2026
Delta Airlines is the best airline for flying between Washington DC and Atlanta. There are plenty flights back and forth. Plan ahead to have time for unforeseen security delays.
NguyenFlew with Delta-Dec 2025
DCA airport is much easier to navigate (security, getting to gate, proximity to DC city center) than IAD
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Feb 2026
DCA only has a few flights to other coast. IAD has many. If something goes wrong you’ll have more options flying out of IAD.
ManojFlew with Alaska Airlines-Nov 2025
Don’t bring carry on roller luggage if you can avoid it. Overhead space runs out real quick.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2025
Usually flying to/from TF Green is very convenient, - small airport, fast security lines, parking nearby.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jan 2025
Reserve your plane seat & bring something to eat in the plane.
MilesFlew with American Airlines-Sep 2024
Arrive early for morning flights. Even precheck and clear had a line at DCA
PaulFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2024
It's pricier to fly into Reagan (DCA), but if your destination is core DC area, it is well worth it. I used Ubers and Metro; no need to rent a car.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jul 2024
Easy access via metro, and by car with parking available walking distance from the terminal. Lots of seating and dining options near the flight boarding gates.
ShashankFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2024
TSA for Terminal 2 is one level below ticketing and check in - on concourse. Indy is a well laid out and easy airport to get around.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jul 2024
Be prepared Seattle is a mess as far as the overwhelming crowds when you land . The bus line to get your rental car is unbelievably long almost 100 people so be prepared once you arrive .
Verified travelerFlew with Southwest-Mar 2024
Arrive earlier to avoid lines for baggage drop off. Also opt for baggage check in my mobile app
Verified travelerFlew with Delta-Apr 2024
use restroom prior to boarding, hall to bathroom is small
Verified travelerFlew with Frontier-Dec 2023
Always check the rules and guidelines prior to boarding. Be early. Rest and eat before departure.
Verified travelerFlew with JetBlue-Feb 2024
Fly directly into Miami if that is your final destination. Ground transportation between FLL and MIA is expensive ($50) and time consuming (1+ hour). One would think there would at least be hourly public transit between the two airports, but no such luck in the late afternoon. Choices are $50 bus ride or $50 ride share, or $50 bright line, or $50+ rental car. No afternoon Tri-Rail service. I chose the ride share since it got me directly to my downtown Miami hotel.

Flight left on time and was early landing. Seats not comfortable and not enough space…

Flight left on time. Seat spacing is way too small…

It would have been better if the flight was on time

Fairly good - the seats seemed more comfortable on this flight. The staff out of Detroit were quite friendly. But they directed us to the wrong carousel for luggage. :(

Just crazy with times being pushed and pushed and pushed and gate crew at Philly super rude and unprofessional with many under stress with delays.

Haven’t flown on SW in years. Flight was on time departing and arriving. Served vegan butter onion flavored pretzels which were bad. Coke served was in a tiny paper cup. Crew was not engaging. Felt like they were going through the motions. Old plane, tight seats and no leg room.

No delays and arrived to destination 30 min early. Staff was super friendly.

Pretty standard flight. We left late, but arrived early. The wifi entertainment is always nice. The free snacks and beverages are simple, but appreciated. I'm tall and the seats are an issue. I can deal with a short flight, but any longer, I have to find another airline where I know beforehand I have extra legroom.

Awesome experience. No in-flight video or meal. Still do not like the boarding process.

On time, good crew, easy flight. Just like the old days!

Long delays at both DCA and MSP; Crew did not keep us informed (or very little). Airplane was showing signs of heavy use (not up to Delta standards). Food options for Business Class have dropped in quality. After landing we sat on tarmac for maybe 25 minutes with no provided chance to use the bathroom and crew did not tell us what was going on or give an estimated time to expect to be at a gate.

Flight was delayed for about an hour but overall good experience

The gentleman at the gate I think his name is RIE was exceptional

This flight was no comparison to our prior flight. I'm thinking it all has to do with the age of the aircraft.

2 of the seats in row 31 the entertainment system was not working, and one seat the tray table did not go all the way down. Flight arrived early and departed on time which was great.

Waited at the usual crowded gate at DCA where one ends up standing up because there aren't enough seats.

Delayed take-off. Very small plane so very scary with lots of bumps during the flight. Would never fly Delta on short flights in small 80 seaters plane again! Felt relieved when landed.

Inexpensive, got an exit row aisle aeat with no middle passenger, bought a great breakfast sandwich, flight comfortable & arrived ahead of schedule.

I wouldn't say I liked being forced to check my small roller bag at the gate; too many people had bags and were in a higher boarding group.

715PM departure was 2.5 hours late. Received hotel & food voucher but after we already booked a room. Entire team just seemed like they were 2-3 steps behind in execution, and notifcations.

the seat has a problem. the back had a hole.

My flight was delayed so bad i missed u it so i just said never mind

Over 5 hour delay with minimal updates or ability to standby for alternative flights. During boarding and 1 hr+ wait for takeoff, seats were drenched w water from air conditioning condensation and always leftover crumbs on carpet and seats

After arriving in Chicago, we were taxiing for 1.5 hours with infrequent and untruthful updates about the amount of time it would take to arrive at the gate. Minimally, the team could have provided timing expectations that were more truthful, especially one their original expectations were not met.

Wonderful. Quick boarding. Early departure and we arrived 30 minutes early at our destination. Unfortunately, when you arrive early, there is still a departing aircraft at our gate. We had to park for 30 minutes until the gate was clear. So our early arrival was not really early at the gate. Otherwise it was a quick and smooth flight. Appreciated the efficiency.

Never nice, United Express partners always do an amazing job.

Being stick waiting for gate at ORD cause me to almost miss my connecting flight…being deaf United made no no effort to keep me updated as I couldn’t hear the PA

The flight was on time and the crew were great.

I was forced to gate check my carry on luggage. Somehow it did not arrive at my destination. I still have yet to receive my bag r days after arrival.

Boarding area is a mess. Lines not bounded and gate area too small. Food options (on this specific flight) were poor and you couldn’t pick part of it since it was like a mash of chicken and other unrecognisable stuff. Comfort of seats along with child noise made it difficult to get a good sleep. Last, the flight attendant that served my aisle was rude (others seemed fine) towards me and others.

Flight was delayed multiple times and rerouted to different concourses in the airport because of all of American's delays. App/boarding pass would not update with changed gate information.

Did not know that they didn’t have screens for entertainment. I didn’t have headphones so I couldn’t watch anything on my phone.

Disorganized boarding. Mandatory to gate check bags. Curt flight staff. No space for cabin bag, even when I was in first class.

Patrons with larger bags were asked to check the bags when boarding. Seems like the most effective, and least costly way, way to successfully use the cramped space.

They cancelled our flight two times after rebooking us for a later flight. We never got on the plane. We found another solution by driving.

Mostly great. Only issue was with the WiFi. Halfway through the flight it was spotty and I was unable to work as I planned. This impacted my work products as I am traveling for business and it was an unexpected hindrance which was inconvenient. Flight here was amazing. For a 5 hour flight something more than a Biscoff would be nice but I’m just swinging at windmills I guess…

Delayed boarding because a flight attendant couldn't find the gate...sat on the plane for over an hour at the gate because AA couldn't get one of the planes behind us to move

The seats were extremely cramped, with very little legroom or personal space. There was no room left in the overhead bins for a backpack, and the space under the seat in front was so limited that I could barely fit my bag underneath. Overall, the seating arrangement felt very uncomfortable and overcrowded.

Overall a good experience, however Wifi was not working on the flight.

THe flight was an hour late. You got us on the plan and we sat on the ground for 45 minutes with no information from the pilot whatsoever. Worst flight this year.

Flight is delayed by more than an hour without any reason, the jet blue gates kept changing every 20 mins and there is no proper communication. No ear phones provided in flight, there is a screen with entertainment but what is the use, I have earphones but the console has outdated audio connections, no usb C or bluetooth, they are living 15 years behind

A nightmare. Scheduled flight delayed 2 hours then cancelled because pilot timed out . Unable to find another pilot. Really?! Weather certainly a factor, but JetBlue seemed totally unprepared for the chaos that ensued when flight routes were cancelled. More cancelled flights, finally many of us who had been bumped from other flights were allowed to board a Boston bound plane around 3:00am, delay after delay, sat on tarmac for another half hour while pilot dealt with weight distribution issues (?), arrived in Boston 4:30. Crew were wonderful- same attendants all day and night and they were exhausted. Fortunately for me and my son that Boston was our final destination, not so lucky for many who missed connecting flights.

The flight was delayed 14 hours and communication was very poor. No one seemed to know what was happening and the gate agent was trying to help people for several flights. She was by herself trying to help 100s of people.

JetBlue worker, Blythe, was so amazing at the DCA counter. If it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure we would’ve made it through. Please thank her!

On time, friendly attendants, quick wheelchair assistance and help checking in bags. Also appreciated change in seats, more forward to make it easier for my 97 year old mother to board and exit the plane. Thank you, JetBlue!

Flight was on time and smooth. Customer service was decent

They forced me to check my hand luggage at the gate.

Still hasn’t left. Why are you asking how it was?

My flight got delayed and eventually canceled, then rescheduled. I and several others had a connection from Boston to Paris and asked several times if we would make it. They assured us we would and then rebooked us mid flight without our consent and closed doors early even though they said they communicated we were a bit delayed. We got stranded in Boston and I opted with being rebooked for a different connection to France since they refused to pay for a Hotel. I've now been in Europe for 5 days and still haven't recieved my bags. There was absolutely no urgency for the fact that I'm in a foreign country with absolutely no change of clothes or any of my medication. Such an overwhelming and frustrating experience.

One hour delayed departure resulted in problems with planned ground transportation at my destination.
