Customer service needs work
Pros: The car was fine.
Cons: The Avis/Budget line was incredibly long and the staff moved at an ridiculously slow pace. We were in line for over 25 minutes before we even saw an agent. Upon returning the car, we had to request the Avis employee leave the booth to scan the barcode so we could make our flight. This employee was unable to process a receipt and required us to go back to the rental desk to get a final receipt. This was not a busy weekend but on both the arrival and depature day the lines at Avis/Budget was the only line that was long. My recommendation would be to rent from another service.

Pros: Car clean and functioned well.
Cons: Little hectic driving thru Boston to return even using Google Maps. Walking with luggage to taxi area somewhat difficult a block away and across street. To call cab from Avis I was told by an Avis employee that they would send a limo- more expensive

Pros: Once I had the key, pick up was a breeze. Drop off was easy! Received an upgrade! Thank you
Cons: Pick up was about an hour wait in long line, even though I had a car reserved.

LONG pick up car line
Pros: Car was clean and new. Very comfortable. Did it's job.
Cons: Took more than an hour to wait in line for our car.

Worst customer service!
Cons: Told us last minute that we couldn't take it to Canada by counter person, even though we were allowed to book online. I talked to 3 customer service reps, including a so-called supervisor, who said "sorry". It wasn't until I escalated with a written complaint (after I had to cancel and go with another company) that I was told that we indeed could have taken it to Canada. Too bad no one else knew that!

No Reversal on Fuel Refuel :(
Pros: The overall experience was good, but...
Cons: I had to return the car to JFK airport in New York and had a hard time finding a gas station on the way. I asked as a one time courtesy if they would reverse what ended up being a very steep fee of $90 with tax but they wouldn't.

Pros: Check in process upon return was fast & easy.
Cons: Rented a small SUV, was given a large SUV, which I didn't want for driving around in Boston traffic for a week. Was given keys to a vehicle that was supposed to be in stall F9 and when I got to stall F9 there was no vehicle there. Vehicle wasn't clean. Very dusty inside. Windows were dirty both inside and out - which hampered visibility.

Pros: Value for the money.
Cons: Had to wait far too long - approx 40 minutes behind 30 people in the pick-up line when none of the other car rental companies had more than 5 people in line.

Pros: Good price point, rental was easy. Vehicle was excellent.
Cons: location to pick up the vehicle was difficult to navigate for someone that has never been to this site.

Pros: The car was booked at the wrong location. Avis found us a car at the correct location and honored the original rate. I was very happy.

Go anywhere else - No cars available
Cons: Avis/budget had no cars when we arrived. There were several other groups waiting for cars when we arrived. We finally got a car two hours after our reservation time. It was not the size we reserved, but at least we fit in the car unlike some other groups. Ridiculous. I will NEVER rent from this company again. Ive been to at least 3 different Boston locations for different rentals and there is a problem every single time. Do yourself a favor and take the bus, fly, walk, crawl. Swim. Don't rent from Avis or Budget.

Pros: They were efficient.
Cons: The other location put in the wrong odometer number and this forced us to go and wait at the reception desk for 15+ mins for their clerical issues

Wrong car and staff indifferent
Pros: Guys checkin' in cars as the airport were great - fast and friendly.
Cons: Car was large and I had asked for a subcompact. Far bigger and more fuel inefficient. Driving in Boston, needed a smaller car for parking and asked ahead of time. I had to change my reservation as I was coming in later. So instead of picking up the car at 7, I wanted to pick it up at 11Am. When I called so they'd know, told rate changes. Increased by $175. Go figure. PIckup -- staff wanted to charge me $25 to drop off 1 mile away at the airport.

No one at rental shop
Cons: Avis supposed to open at 8am. Avid worker didn't show up until 840am. Car not clean. Smelled like smoke.

Pros: The car and its pickup were fine.
Cons: We were not told that the office was closed at 6pm and that there was but a 20 minute grace period for the drop-off. As such we paid for 2 days instead of one, because we did not make extraordinary arrangements to avoid potential traffic. In addition to the double charge, the need to go to the drop off site twice was unacceptable.

Customer Service Wanting
Pros: Great gas mileage on the Hyundai Sonata -- I averaged over 30 MPG.
Cons: I picked up this car on the waterfront near the Aquarium because renting off the airport saved me hundreds of dollars. When I got to the rental office, I was the only customer. I was give the agreement and the keys. They had no maps. They (there were two people working there) didn't even tell me where to get the car! I asked where the car was. "In the lot," I was told. Okay, where's the lot. The lot was above us. Where's the entrance. "Around the corner." Which corner? Which way do I go? I've had more assistance from customer service agents overseas who didn't speak English. When I got to the entrance to the parking garage, I saw a sign that said, "Avis Check-in Seventh Floor." Thank goodness no one moved the sign or I'd still be looking for the car. Although new with only about 500 miles on it, the car itself was spotted with bird droppings. People at the airport where I returned the car were much, much more helpful.

Pros: Customer service was great! Things didn't go perfectly, but they (unexpectedly) compensated me for the inconvenience.The car worked well and was very affordable.
Cons: "System"was down when we picked up the car, so the agent had to do things manually, but then it came back up and he had to repeat the process. The car was really dirty and the gas tank wasn't full when we picked it up.

Pros: I didn't like anything about my rental. I was a day late and was charged 94 dollars. 20 more than my original amount. I returned the car it took Theo people and twenty minutes to figure out how to let me the additional charges on a different card. I will not most likely rent with you guys again.

Cons: They didn't have the size car i requested even though we needed it to be a specific size for my mom to put her mobility scooter in. It was expensive. Line was long to try to fix the error to get her a car that was the right size to fit her scooter.

Cons: avis is terrible. they were completely incompetent, couldnt even connect me to the local office where i would have picked up, and tried to charge me $500 more to change a minor error in drop off. I thought kayak would default my drip off to the airport location but did not. when I went to fix it they wanted to gauge the price. I ultimately cancelled and took alamo instead.

GPS system useful
Pros: The integrated guidance system. It was very helpful.

Avis counter in Boston
Cons: Not for the first time, there never seem to be enough people behind the car rental counters at Logan airport in Boston - and not just at Avis but with other car rental companies there. That isn't true in other places (such as the Seattle or S.F. airports). Perhaps it is a problem to find employees - but Avis used to try harder to have efficient service...
